I think that is why Taeyeon promotes her singles less these days, she only promotes what she is forced to. SM is really pissing it's artists off, Ning Ning looks frustrated lately, she was enjoying herself in Coachella. She really tries during encores to sing over the backtrack... It is sad and infuriating.

SHANLIÉ out here grinding. These videos are great because they help to establish realitic expectations when it comes to live singing in k-pop

Thank you for the video! As a YG stan, I noticed Treasure play one prerecorded track over and over again (realized after Junkyu's same voice crack lol). Hope music shows ban lip syncing one day lol

Its unfortunate that Jikjin music show performances wasn't live...but this doesn't mean that they can't sing live as we got live for the concert!!! YG artists never lip sync in their concert! I don't think music shows should or would ban lip syncing as 1st singing excessively everyday could damage or worsen said idols voices. 2nd idol idols should let their mouth and vocal cords rest as some idols do continue practicing singing even when it's their rest day but not to the extent of not singing in a single music show during a comeback (unless the choreography is terribly exhausting)

@@t_lxpathy3062 This isn't meant to be rude but one thing I can't understand is how groups back in the day (2nd generation) Were singing live a lot of the times, not all the time but at least 50%. Also the main reason any voice could get damage is if they weren't singing with the proper technique(which is very common in kpop), plus with Covid it's very hard for idols to over-sing because there aren't as many concerts.

Nah Taeyeon still sings live in her other performances. She's unhappy with SM too, that's why she only went on two music shows, just to promote her album. The other projects that she's interested in, you will see singing live. I'm a huge fan of Taeyeon so I can say with absolute certainty, when she performs 'as an idol' she just does the standard, but when she performs 'as a singer' she pours her soul into it. You will understand this when you get the chance to watch her concerts or live performances. She said this before, she feels more comfortable to be in a small setting performing only for fans that appreciate her as a singer. She recently went on Dingo you can check that out although it's pre-recorded, but it's studio live. Covid ruined her concert so there's that. Prior to that she was busking in Amsterdam for Being Again 3 and that was raw live. So please don't say that she's an empty shell of her former self, she respects herself as a singer more than any thing.

BTOB is the standard I swear. I love the fact that they always sing live.

here's what happened basically their company noticed that everyone rlly liked them singing live and knew a lot of attention would be on it next comeback so they did all those stages lip synced with a backtrack made to sound live so they could try to maintain that image while also preventing mistakes that could damage it it's very silly but it's kinda a microcosm of what happened with sm

BTOB is what I wish the standard was. 🥲 When they make Ryowook (suju) and Taeyeon lipsync it literally hurts my soul.

BTOB are really great, I'm pretty surprised I thought NMIXX sang half of the performances live and at least one for Treasure. It would be great if you could make a video clarifying the concepts that appear like autotune and lip sync at the same time. Thank you for the video 😘

I didnt realize NMIXX have 14 performances lol, that's a lot. And yes, I thought some of the live backtrack were actually lipsync and I realize because they sound almost the same with their raw vocal, nevertheless everybody work hard❤

I think the auto-tune + lipsync is just they prerecorded the song, edited it with some autotune and then they lipsync during the performance. Or maybe they edited the studio version with autotune to make it sounds different and lipsync it

i mean a lot more are at least pre-recorded, bc in a couple of stages their voices are not synced with the backtrack, so that’s not lipsynching and is either live or pre recorded

@@sacha3296 I mean prerecorded is lipsync tho, they just recorded it beforehand probably at the same spot they perform and then lipsync the performance with prerecorded version on top of the backtrack. But maybe they were not perfectly synced when they recorded it that's why you feel like it's not synced with the backtrack. Or it can be an error when they edit it and play the song for the performance

Yg and Sm should let their artists sing live at least for one performance cmon their raw vocals are so good. Im so madd

If only they stopped caring about choreos to the extent that it is hard to sing live while dancing to the extremely hard choreos we are getting these days...I personally prefer live vocals compared to hard choreos....It really is unfortunate....

They LITERALLY ATE? like the vocals all of the members were audible and we're overpowering the backtrack i just loved it soo much OMG- i watched a performance recently the choreo wasn't relatively that hard but the group was barely audible on the other hand twice had 2x more difficult and intricate choreos yet they executed the choreo perfectly while being stable-

​@@amanhaniftambu3319 sorry I haven't watched Twice concert clips still I respect them alot for being able to sing live when dancing to hard choreos but still for me personally I don't like hard choreos as it drives my attention away from from the music (but please don't misinterpret this as me saying that hard choreos are bad or smtg...just that I don't prefer it but it isn't bad if an artist opts for hard choreos! )...Thats one of the reasons why I am a yg stan cause usually all YG groups have easier but eye catching choreos that still fits the music perfectly despite not being hard or detailed...And its not like YGAs are bad at dancing or smtg cause if you actually see their dance covers then you will truly understand how talented they are at dancing but just that for their own music they don't focus on hard choreos but this is slowly changing with Treasure as they are having hard choreos just like any other 4th gen group.... but ofc I understand that not everyone agrees with me and there are people that want hard choreos! But thats the good thing about kpop that there is variety so you will always find a group that fits your taste! If you like hard and detailed choreos then you have JYP groups whereas if you like easy but eye catching choreos then you have YG groups(but YG grps also have some hard choreos for example all Treasure songs have hard choreos few iKON songs like Killing me, Rhythm ta,etc has hard choreo and few bp songs like boombayah, whistle, don't know what to do have hard choreo)! Ohh and btw Treasure also killed their live stages despite having hard choreos! So proud of them and all groups who are able to do that!!!

NMIXX are indeed truly talented but don't be delusional and believe that all performances are legit 100% live. It is the fans' choice to accept reality or have clouded senses.

God this is just so sad, why even go on music shows if you’re just gonna fake it, seems pointless to me.

Nmixx is so good at lip syncing I actually thought they sang live all the time and really well at that while dancing. The track and audio mixing is very believable.

Choreo or not much choreo, they’ve been singing live since DEBUT! They are literally known for their live singing( remember the comments by artists in Kingdom?? For research purposes, look for I’ll be Your Man, Movie, You’re so Fly, Insane, Thriller, Blowin Up etc!!!!

yes I agree!!BTOB have hard choreos too but they still sing it live..and even sometimes with no in-ear..mostly non fans only know BTOB with ballads and minimal choreo..which is I feel sad about it🙃

Actually, it's even more risky to sing minimal-or-no-choreo-songs, because the vocals are getting more evaluated and there's no argument about 'the choreo is difficult so it's okay'. So, since BtoB dared to sing Ballad songs, it shows that they believe in their vocal abilities, which has been proven in these 10 years.

Actually I'm okay with their less complicated choreo. Kpop group need choreo but the main thing to present a song is vocals. So I don't want them to sacrifice their live singing just for choreo. Make choreo that allow idols to sing live. Bcs for me that's the kpop group performance should be

It’s really hard to believe that NMIXX did lip-sync that much because it’s feel like I can hear their voices over backing track. At least I think 7:40 is live or prerecorded but surely that it’s not lip sync because I hear some different detail in full stage. And not sure which stage that they do some adlib and improvise to make me believe that they not lip sync.

if its pre recorded it's lipsyncing. they sometimes use live singing audio from practice and use it to lipsync as it's more realistic. they leave room for some live vocals but it's mostly just lip.

Finally bringing myself to leave a comment, thank you for doing this kind of video. I'm so happy that someone is finally speaking freely of lipsync in kpop, because I can't deal anymore with all the fan being like ''this live sounds so good, you can hear their breaths of course it's live, you must be deaf if you think it's pre-recorded'' when it actually is. So many fans became agressive when I mentioned lipsync saying I'm not a true fan, but we need to bring it up either because agency don't care about live anymore or because music show don't give them the choice... And even for the idol some choreography aren't made for singing and are too exhausting, I'm all in for some good performance but then music show shouldn't bother putting mics and just let them enjoy dancing and performing!! Thank you again I'm really enjoying this kind of content!!!

yes, for award shows and concerts TREASURE performances are mostly live. But this video is talking abt the 2022 Feb performances on mushows. And this channel is not the only one that spot out that all of their 2022 Feb mushow performances are lipsync. Not these kids' fault tho. They were still rookies that can't freely chose on how they're gonna perform at that time. Also mushows are just regular and non paid content, plus there's no live audience at mushow back then in 2022 Feb due to pandemic status. So YG probably didn't think that live singing was a thing in such situation.

i was so sad that stayc only did a few live performances during their promotion as i have loved them for their live vocals.

I'm confused on how some of the videos yah presented was labelled lip-sync when yah can literally hear their voices even with a loud backtrack... I watched all of nmixx performances and most of them sounded live. Or are they lip syncing to a flawed version and layered it on the loud backtrack??? Cuz i always definitely hear two vocals on their performances. Can you explain a bit about this? like 6:44 sounded like there are two vocals just the loud backtrack, was that consider lip syncing already?

Just hear the next performance cut just after it. It sounds exactly the same. You can hear the clear difference when they do sound live just a few seconds later. That means it's lipsync. "Most of them sounded live" no they were just probably prerecorded at mushow so u can hear the breaths

But if you watch their performances you can hear they're actually singing, it's just that the BACKTRACK was loud that's why I'm asking if having a loud backtrack even if they're singing is considered lip syncing here. Yah should try watching their live stages performances^^

As always, thank you for your hard work and putting out these videos. I don't follow kpop much nowadays, but these types of videos are always entertaining and a good way for me to keep up with what's going on in the industry. Also, I genuinely LOLed at Super Junior (no hate to them ofc, we've been jamming to their bops for over a decade). I know that SM artists don't really sing live on these shows any more but at least most of them have some sort of a dance routine to perform. But no, these fellas were literally like: > come out on stage > stand in your spot > lipsync and chill for 3 minutes > refuse to elaborate further > leave LMAO

The mic could be on but that doesn't meant they will sing. Sometimes I noticed that most of them were lipsyncing and only Lily was live.

It's a bit hard to tell honestly and you have to watch every stage all the way through. Usually lip-sync sound like 1 track with no top vocals, or the top vocals are identical on every stage. Pre-recordings are usually made on site. For instance MCountdown will usually do one of a kind pre-recordings for their stages and the group wont re-use that audio on other programs. Music Bank did that for NMIXX @8:11, if you watch the whole video the girls change outfits magically while dancing several times so they couldn't have sang live in real time. They sang live once backstage or somewhere else and then played it over them dancing so the program could splice the separate footage of them dancing in uniforms/ dresses together.

Honest question(not that knowledgeable about that stuff). When you say a performance is lipsynced, do you mean the whole thing? For example you have the Nmixx mbc performance on the 26th marked as lipsync but for one thats the performance Lily adds a random adlib/change at 1.29 (kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y2Z5pqh6cdm0lqw.html) (very different to their usual performances I think) or at the beginning where I thought Jiwoo was out of sync with the backtrack for a split second at 0.21(kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y2Z5pqh6cdm0lqw.html) you hear a "duh" sound twice(one at low volume). Thats why I thought it was live with backtrack.

They can lip and still have mics on at points. Sometimes vocal mics are on and the rest are off. Allows them to add adlibs but don't have to sing the whole song

That's what pre recorded vocals are, raw vocals they record prior to the performance to make it seem live.

@@mookchie they were live (with some backtrack), but mnet compressed the vocals heavily/added autotune. If you watch the screen recorded versions people got from the original live through the zoom calls, the vocals were obviously live (and a little pitchy for everyone, but that’s what true live vocals sound like)

I knew its hard to make live possible when they focus on performance, full promotions and prepares for concert too. I am happy they also prepared a pre-recorded than just Lip Sync. Treasure. I am waiting for iKON comeback.

You may be right actually. 8:51 is live with very loud backtrack, I'm not sure about the other performances 'cause I haven't watched them. Maybe the op counted them as lip sync 'cause you can't really hear their live vocals most of the time anyway.

agreed, i watched every dilemma stage and they did have some live vocals (very buried in backtrack but still)

i almost always agree with u, but i do think nmixx has performed more live than the ones you stated? i consider it lipsync if the vocals aren't as loud as the backtrack, but i genuinely think that these girls sing the song live a few more times. i always focus on haewon to determine if it's live so it might be a case of them turning mics on and off on certain members. personal judgement, i suppose.

I am a teume and i knew it was prerecorded, but some parts they really did sang live like the raps,but yeah i believe it's such a waste of talent if they can't even sing live but honestly i also feel thay sokor is so obsessed with perfection that literally everyone does it. Of course our BTOB sing live all the time except once during thriller promo bcoz of the tv station requirement. They sometime use backtrack but they will make sure it is not louder than their voice. They also have light choreo in this video. They also have heavy choreo song yet they can sing live.Melody proud of you Beats

If all the stages have the same vocal performance, then at least the ones that were evaluated for the vid (it's possible that the video author might have missed one somehow), of them at most one was live, and usually none. It's simple logic. If you find a missing one, do say which one it is exactly, show and date, it's helpful.

if it's DAY6 you can trust and count on them hehe ~ they are called as LIVE6 for a reason. And also carry the name ''Trust and Listen to DAY6''

been watching Shanlie's vids and imma stan that's vid about live perf. and now I am confused.huhu~I watch the January comeback's vid, 'imma stan that' stated that pentagon did more than 1 live stage. same in here, for feb 'imma stan that' said apink did alot of stages live which is actually quite surprised for me, both opinions shocked me actually coz I thought they at least did 2 live stages. not that it was something that bothering me or anything, i just want to learn how to detect live stages coz it is something that intrigue me. but now, i'm super confused.this is definitely hard. kudos to those who were abe to master the difference between live and non-live. again, I have nothing against pre-recorded or lip sync. it just that i wanna give more support to those who sing live coz honestly, it was not easy not following the trend, giving up having extravagant dance for live singing

INVU consists if really good vocals and I really want Taeyeon to sing it live someday since it would sound amazing! On another note, I’m so disappointed with Woollim and RBW for also making their artists starting to lipsync more since they’re also known for amazing live vocals

as a NSWER I never thought NMIXX always performed LIVE but for sure they are one of the Kpop groups with above average vocals, I'm sure all kpop groups are always lypsinc if their performance is accompanied by dance, BTOB is no exception

BTOB tried to lip sync when they performed their song “Thriller”, since it had very active choreography, but they failed in lip syncing and it was very funny performance. That’s why they always sing live, because they suck at lip syncing. Probably the only thing they are bad at.

It would be cool if you show more than one part of a performance for each artist. I can see you did it for some groups but but you didn't do it for some others like jwiiver... I'm not a fan but I recently watched some of their stages and in most stages I noticed that one member (i don't know his name) always try to sing his part in the chorus

Yes it's often they takes it from pre-recorded vocals instead of live vocals because in the first place they never sing over the backtrack

lol... people in the comments arguing about one or two videos when the group they are fighting for would still be singing less than 50% even if they are correct... stans should just stop using live singing as something to shame other groups and just enjoy their faves performances without the need to put others down. For apink, perhaps u have to take part of eunji since chorong has a small-soft-voice type so u heard those as lipsync

3/14 is just the perfect score for nmixx seriously (proud it was bae, too! She is probably the second weakest and was the third weakest one when jinni was there. Jinni is the more striking performer, though). The really sad thing is, as i am commenting almost 2 years later, that they lost 1/7 of their group so they'll sing live even less. They are my absolute favorite, but i kind of get surprised that they actually do sing live sonetimes haha.

When you lip sync an audio file of you singing live. For example if I sing live tonight and record it. I can lip sync to that recording for the next week of performances so it sounds real. So "Pre" literally refers to a latter date their vocals were "recorded" and added to the instrumentals :)

Well I'm pretty sure these idol never sang 100% of all of the performance especially nmixx but im also pretty sure they sang at least a little in every performance and not 100% lipsync.

still streaming INVU, just saying, why are people assuming (well basically just believing) that Taeyeon was not allowed to sing live? I mean, she's the leader of girls' generation, the biggest soloist of SM, getting the best ressources of the company, had all those well designed stages, fancy makeup and outfits, but she aint got a choice but to lipsync because SM was threatening her to do so. I'm not saying that she's guilty, cause she may be sick or what, but she definitely chose not to sing live, or at least agreed to lipsync, cause by the end she's the only performer and she truely did did the two stages. and if you follow her on Instagram, Taeyeon often posts photos of her wearing good-looking clothes and makeup, she's definitely got something, I don't understand why peolpe are making her some kind of powerless little rookie. besides, INVU isn't a bright song, the lyrics are kind of low, complaining, and hating (towards an ex). her expression was just fine, why are people doubtlessly mixing the mood and the lipsync thing together? she's not 'not happy' beacause of some 'made to lipsync'. I like Taeyeon's voice and listen to her songs, and I'm not even dissapointed cause she's lipsyncing, but the whole making her the victim thing is just kind of three-year-old, like seriously?

she's not a junior, she's a senior senior, she definitely got some power , chose to not sing live, but the whole decision doesn't make her guilty, the two stages look good and it is just how it works.

Why don't they let suju sing live, they're not dancing anyways. Isn't it awkward for them to stand and lip sync? That's just sad
