Grew up with a German Shepherd. When I was 6 a stranger walked into our back yard where I was playing, and within no time our dog had come running outside, got between me and the guy and backed him into a corner until my dad came out. Will never forget being alone and looking up to see this guy who clearly had some mental problems walking towards me, then looking to my left to see a snarling set of teeth come sprinting over. Miss that dog, there's a photo of me and him from around that time that I keep next to my bed.

Over the years I have know some officers with a K-9. One would bring his dog over to swim in my pool with my dog. If anyone is wondering where the K-9 lives, it lives with the officer and his family. Kito (K-9) would sleep in the bed at night with his 4 year old daughter. Don't break into her bedroom!!! LOL I ask Mark, how does the dog know when it is going to work? He said when I come out of the bedroom in uniform he knows it is time for him to stop being a pet and go to work.

My American bulldog is tactical trained and sleeps in bed with me. Anyone enters my house and they won’t make it out alive. 46 kg of pure muscle my dog is. She knows I have health issues and looks after me. I only have one eye and can’t see too good especially at night. And also spine problems. I stay in a real rough area and my bully lets no one near me. She is so in tune with me it’s insane. Same as your dogs know those kids are the weaker of the pack and feel it’s their duty to protect. Dog s are amazing.

Dave Ktver there was a story here a few years ago about a child getting mauled by foxes and killed. It was tragic. But that is actually awesome the dogs do their job. I live just outside a city and foxes have no way of getting in my house. But my dog hates them.... I’m sure she thinks it’s the same one every time, but even when she just smells them she starts searching for them. They are dangerous to anything small that moves. Including children. That’s why dog is mans best friend. Because they are protectors for us. My dog with my illness and your dogs with your kids. Same reason. They are essential to our survival.

Dave Ktver I stay just outside Glasgow in a really rough area and there drugs and junkies and gangs at every turn here. From teenagers to adults. Not joking. If I didn’t have my dog I would be a multiple victim here... she protects alright. Last year I had the dumbest 2 guys ever to live, try and mug me.. for my dog lmao...I had just walked into the closed off park behind my house and just as I was about to let her off the lead these 2 guys were right in front of me. One grabbed the dog lead and said let it go or something like that .. he barely got his words out and she just exploded it was all teeth, shakes and arghhh’s. She was trying to fight both of them by biting on and shaking for a second then going to the next one and they were trying to run.. she actually locked on to the guys arm and would not let go.... it took me hours to process what happened... I just could not understand why compete idiots would try and steal a 46 kg huge mean looking dog from the owner in the street. Makes a good story now tho lol

It takes 2 things to teach a dog to be that way and for search and rescue. One is that the dog must be unnerved and bold and the other is smarts. We brought 5 German Sheoherd puppies into this world, kept 2 and sold the other 3 for search and rescue. And the officer who came to see the pups said over the phone that she had been looking all over for certain traits and qualities and had nothing seen it in any if the dogs she visited so she didnt think she would find it in our dogs. She showed up an hour later, looked over our dogs and did a few things to get their attention and then purchased a if them right there on the spot. Their office called again about 2 years ago at our breeder friend's house to ask if we had raised anymore and we had to tell them that our mama female had been hit by a speeding van and we had to out her down. Very sad moment for all of us that day. However, her family blood line is still out there and we are hoping that this nutcase Covid thing goes away so we can breed them again and get more awesome dogs within the next year or so. Hand delivering those puppies and raising them was so much fun!!! And talk about little stinkers!!! My female Lakota was climbing out of the kennel like a cat on numerous occasions. She can still do it. She just doesn't realize it. And her brother is a major jumper. Our kennel is chain link wire fence cing and stands 6 feet tall. But with a good running head start this big boy can jump over it. He did it when he was young but hs just doesn't remember it. No doubt these are some of the qualities that make a good search and rescue dog. And goodness are they strong! My big boy (Diamond) would pull your arms out of their sockets if you're not expecting him to take off while on the leash!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Definitely a lot of work and a lot of fun to raise.

When he wants to play fight hes going to push me around, and hes just a goofy, clumsy 1 and a half year old dog with no training what so ever. So your story is bullshit.

@@IamRaloPib correct not a mean bone, but will protect you when the need arises. I once got attacked when out walking my Golden by an Australian ridge back. My dog was off a distance away having a mooch. The instant he became aware what was happening he engaged warp speed and came to my rescue. Didn’t resemble my big fluffy teddy bear at all in that moment, he meant business and didn’t the ridge back know it when 100lbs of snarling, teeth bared, hackles up retriever hit him at full whack. The other dog turned tail and fled, still have the scars on my hand to this day but my fluffy boy knew when it was time to act! (He’s lying by my feet as I write this snoring his head off lying with head on a teddy!)

Are they friendly sure, do they think everyone is there for there loving pleasure....of course, but they will defend their family when needed. We took Daisy to the beach this weekend. The waves were rough and under tow was strong so we made sure she had her vest on. She kept jumping back from the waves, and wouldn’t go in. I made a run for the water and was up to my knees and got hit by a wave and acted like I went down. She grabbed my by the back of my swimsuit and was hauling me back to shore before I knew it. Then she looked at me like WTH mom, can’t you swim.

I had a shepherd-husky mix, extremely intelligent, efficient, and powerful. Now and then a stray would come charging up at Buzz when we were out walking. Just that quickly, the stray would start running away. Buzz moved so fast that I never got to see exactly what he did to send the stray packing. Just moments later it was as if the incident had never happened. Buzz never did more than was necessary and he had a rock steady disposition. But he was gentle too. The toddlers in the neighborhood liked to pet him with their little starfish hands. He would sit as still as a sphinx as if any move on his part might hurt them.

Yep. Their love for their master is unconditional. And you're right...they WILL fight until their last breath if need be. Our first Shepherd was a pure bred Shiloh Shepherd (my avatar is her photo). She was outlandishly intelligent and fast as a bolt of lightning! You could show her something just once and she got it. She was that smart. Well, I was leaving for work late one morning cuz I worked 2nd shift and one of the neighbors had relatives visiting down the street and they had an aggressive Rottweiler that got loose and we didn't know it. I got out into the driveway and something caught the corner of my eye. It was that big Rottie running full out to get me! Our Shepherd (Cheyenne was her name) burst past my wife who was standing in the doorway and grabbed that Rottweiler by the throat and pinned it to the ground instantly!!! She was not playing!!! If I hadn't got a piece of an old broom handle there is no doubt in my mind that she would have killed that sucker. I literally had to pry her mouth off of that dog to get him loose and when I did he took off for home like there was no tomorrow!!! I would sometimes take her to work and even the guys that were afraid of big dogs got to know and like her. She was so friendly. But when she meant business she was all in. Well, on January 13th, 2014 she gave birth to a litter of pups ( bought an all black male and she raised him and he became her mate). We kept a runt female and a bruiser male. Three months after they were born Cheyenne was hit by a speeding van and we ended up having to put her down. Literally broke mine and my wife's hearts! But...we had 5 pups to raise and I became disabled a few years before this happened so I stayed with them 24/7 and raised them. We sold 3 of them : 1 to a private owner and the other 2 to the Pittsburg, PA police Search And Rescue. Meanwhile the pups and their daddy got all of our attention and still do to this day. All three have proven to be just as loyal as Cheyenne (not quite as smart as her bit still just as loyal). I honestly do not think that you can get a more loyal and loving dog than a German Shepherd. They are just incredible dogs. Ours have the traditional big heads and straight backs, and the big male pup has a very big head. You could literally fit your whole face in his mouth! Great dogs. Love 'em!!!

People setting fires, robbing stores (we actually have footage thanks to a stupid KZreadr known worldwide), breaking windows, threatening the police, etc. The only footage we get is the aftermath, where the police does one thing and people blame the cop for it. The cops are doing their jobs, protecting others and themselves. If they don’t do something, they will be murdered, and be blamed for it. Cops are heros, not terrorists. Now, I’m not sending any hate to those who don’t agree with me. Just, please leave evidence for your opinions rather than, “@Alxx Sv you stupid dumb racist. This is why America sucks”.

If we had to receive the smack, she would put Gypsy outside. Gypsy was protective. We lived in Albuquerque at that time and there was a mesa in front of our house. We weren’t allowed out there unless mom was with us. One afternoon, we went out to the edge to play with mom watching. We usually dug in the sand. That afternoon as we were going out to the sandy spot, Gypsy kept blocking us and if we tried to pass her she would shove us back. Mom came out to see why Gypsy was acting that way. There was a rattler in the sandy spot and she was keeping us away from it. When we got back inside the house my mom dropped to her knees and wrapped her arms around Gypsy’s neck and hugged her. She was a great dog.

He thought there was danger and he was willing to risk his life to protect mine. He did that without training, it was his natural instinct. What is amazing is that this dog is trained to resist their natural instinct to protect it's master until it is instructed to do so. Dog people get it.

My brother in law put on shows with the Police Dept. With his shepard, she only understood German. Best part when he had her find people. When she found you she laid her head on your lap,it was wonderful to watch. When he dressed for work it's was time for her at attention and she knew what to do to be ready. Was amazing. She is no longer with us for years and we will always remember and miss her.

We have our fourth German Shepherd, a male named Max. Our “grand dog” we often babysit is a female Golden Retriever, Max’s best friend. Max religiously guards our house at night; I have no doubt in my mind that he would protect us to the death, while our grand dog Golden Retriever would lick them to death.

That is so true. Our German Shepherd would fall asleep in bed with me and as the night progressed she literally made the rounds of the house to check on everyone eventually going back to sleep by the front door. No one ever taught her to do this it was her protective instinct. After she passed my mom and dad said they often would here the familiar sound of her chain collar as she continued to make her rounds

I had a Sheppard was I was growing up. That dog was waayyy smarter than I was! In the morning, my mom would tell the dog, “it’s time for Bruce to get up for school” the dog would sprint through the house, push my door open with it’s nose, and launch herself across the room, and land on my chest! She always made sure I was up before she would return to scrap patrol in the kitchen.

There's no loyalty here. Dogs have the cognitive skills of a toddler at best. Dogs are oblivious to their own mortality. A police dog doesn't know he could be killed while on duty. He thinks he's playing a fun game where he bites someone and gets rewarded. Do you think the dog questions why he is told to bite people who have done nothing to him? Of course not. He doesn't care that he's inflicting pain on others. He just wants that reward. He won't hesitate to bite a elderly person or child if he's told to. Do you think such an animal is capable of the same loyalty as a human?

He was the new guy. We had to explained that he had to put the NP between the grill and the screen on our storm door. He wanted to press charges but my Dad told him he was the one coming into our house without permission. We never had any problems afterwards. Great dog.

Earlier this year my family finally got a puppy... my husband’s dream dog. A German Shepherd. We named her Luna. Shortly after we got her we started noticing things about her but attributed it to being a puppy.... this “things” got worse.... finally took her to the doctor then an emergency visit to a neurologist.... she had a incurable, degenerative hereditary disease... we lost her shortly after she turned four months old... that was July.... my husband and I still cry every day. And our kids (who are very young) miss her so much. I’m not sharing this to make everyone sad, but because I love her still. I mourn for the life she didn’t get to live. I pray no one else has to deal with losing their puppy. Love you pups. Don’t get mad at them for wanting to be with you always or for barking or even for eating out of the cat’s litter box. Love them. Just love them. We thought we would have a lifetime, we did have her whole lifetime, it was just so much shorter than we thought it would be. Live every day, appreciate every breath. Don’t take one second for granted Xoxo

I went on a citizen ride along with a K9 unit years ago. Dog's name is ZEUS, German Sheppard and I was really impressed how smart these dogs are trained to be. I learned that ZEUS is trained to understand commands in German..very clever. We stopped by the PD dispatch and we went inside, and Zeus and I (with permission) went on a stroll together and he stayed right by me as we walked around. We made our rounds and came back and I started petting Zeus and he laid down, rolled over on his side like he wanted me to pet his tummy..aaawww!!! So still petting Zeus I said to the officer "look at him..he's a big ol' teddy bear..oohh yeah I feel safe all ready!!! Then the officer gave order in German and boom..Zeus got up and in the blink of an eye..BOOM..Zeus was right there with the officer. I would like to take this moment to give a shout out too policemen, fire fighters, and any and all occupations where putting your lives in danger everyday is a sober reality to say from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU ALL FOR KEEPING ME AND ALL OF AMERICA SAFE..BELIEVE ME I KNOW MY FREEDOM IS NOT FREE ...AND I KNOW FIRST HAND WHAT A HEAVY PRICE IS PAID DAILY TO ENSURE MY SAFETY !! “Companion” just scratches the surface of what a good dog can mean to a human. My shelter dog was the best thing to happen to me in ten years. She has been my constant companion for ten years next month and is now 10 1/2 years old and starting to show some very slight signs of aging. She is my first house dog...never thought I’d permit a dog in my house. Now, I wouldn’t have it any other way. “Layla” is her name.

We had a black Labrador retriever and mute but that little mute was the best K9 bomb and drug sniffing dog you could ask for. I really miss being stationed there. I made lifelong friends there. I trained a dog for a small county sherrif office, and yes, these demonstrations are needed to show people what they paid for, but we also did these demos to show people not to be needlessly afraid of the dog. Plus, it helped hone the dog's ability to focus. He can't be staring at the crowd when a known baddie is in front of him, but he does need to do quick scans in case there is a hidden baddie in the crowd.

I love German Shepherds. I have one who is still an adolescent at 18 months. He is the most playful, goofy fellow most of the time. Gentle with children, reserved but not aggressive with strange adults. A few weeks ago someone tried to break into my house. First I knew of it, I heard my dog snarling. I ran out to my front room, there was my dog growling like a wild wolf, while the intruder stood very still and petrified. These dogs are amazing.
