How we know this won't cause a short amd blow the TV?

I did this with a copper wire and pencil. put end of copper wire in the cable feed and the pencil I stuck in the dirt. I ended up getting many spanish channels for some reason.

You leave out the part where one needs to have signal. And the other part where there are materials a lot better for this than pencils.
