Likewise way Larsson playing for your mob. Absolutely detested the bones of him because of how naturally gifted he was with a football, same with Stylian Petrov, something about his style of play, was a big fan of him at Villa though. Forget the talent that’s played in Scottish football, the Gattuso, Tugay, Van Bronckhorst, Bellamy, Viduka, Arteta, Moravjic (probably butchered it) but the list goes on.

What made him Super Ally was a mixture of talent, competent teammates, Walter Smith and the simple fact Rangers was in his blood. Playing for the badge meant something to him. He didn't view Rangers as simply a stepping stone to something bigger as so many players do these days.

Yeah, l agree. Walter allowed a bit of practical joking and mischief which also allowed for great team spirit. Ray Wilkins said that training was comedy central with Ally and Davie Cooper. Later Gazza arrived and it suited him as well. The team spirit under Walter was key to his success. He had a happy team of players.

Even as a Dons fan i have to take my hat off to McCoist. He was a tremendous striker, he always had the knack of being in the right place at the right time and it never mattered how many chances he might've spurned in a game, there would always be that one or even two that he'd end up taking. He never allowed his head to go down, he always maintained the belief in himself that he could score. A truly incredible striker.

He was called a poacher who scored a lot of tap ins 30 years ago. Today he'd be called an intelligent player who reads the game and knows exactly the right place to be to maximise his success of scoring and people would be paying a lot of money for that.. After winning the golden boot twice, they changed the rules so someone from Scotland couldn't win it....despite the fact Rangers were one game off the Champions League final in that period..

McCoist a more intelligent player that he is given credit for. his spacial awareness and ability to roll a defender was next level. Ally McCoist was one of the greatest finishers of all time, right foot, left foot, ariel headers, diving headers and acrobatic ability to score unbelievable goals aswell . A great striker hasn't just got supreme finishing ability but the spacial awareness was 2nd to none. Furthermore he had the ability to beat defenders even though he wasn't rapidly quick and also his link-up play was phenomenal, which was highlighted by the arrival of Mark Hately which saw a partnership evolve into something that was almost telepathic. I know big Hately was known for his flick on headers but he also had a great understanding with McCoist on where he would be and where McCoist would pass the ball on to him and that produced a remarkable partnership between them. All you need to know is, when a football player of the genuis of the GREAT Paul "Gazza" Gascoigne says that your the BEST FINISHER HE'S EVER SEEN then that speaks volumes and carries an enormous weight due to the stature of Gazza, then who are any of us mere mortals to say different. Super Ally wasn't called super for nothing!!!!!! And his goal scoring record speaks for itself, mic drop!!!!!

He was a great finisher and could find space really well. As a striker he was more an Inzaghi/Lineker/Fowler poacher than any other type. Didn't tend to go running back but would stay on the shoulder and only needed a yard to score. Very early '90s was his best period. Another thing in his favour -- he loved (loves) football and that came across when he was on the pitch.

Henry, Messi, Ronaldo & Lewandowski. The only other players to win the European Golden Boot in successive seasons. I think that says it all for the level McCoist was at during the early nineties. A natural goal scorer who knew how to position himself to always find the ball and score. Not only that but superb break away movement, a great turn/swivel in tight spaces and the abilities to score screamers and acrobatic efforts too. No matter what club he was at,if he got the service he delivers more than his fair share of goals, thank God he was a blue blood as you seen the passion on his fave as he scored they goes that made you knock the pub table over or off your seat and into the air,in today's game he be worth fair bit of dough as you know yourself it's got a bit "poofy" as nearly half half the players go down without being touched and the ones that have make sure it's on the pitch to waste time, don't get me wrong there has been some serious incidents, the funniest one for me is Ballotelli when a Juve drank a p😮ish out a bottle thinking it's juice as did Ibrihimavic at which was funny when he was at A C,Ally for me would easily for me be worth millions as everything since his time has got easier no harder😊

Best poacher inside the box you will ever see. McCoist always anticipated where the ball was or could go and thats why he scored so many goals inside the box. Strikers these days switch off when the ball isn't played to their feet. You will hear him always talking about making front post or back post runs during his commentary. Young forward players should listen to him and could learn a lot.

Come on man. He was an old man when he left. Almost all his goals were scored in his prime. If you take his eight year prime. McCoist scored 249 in 359 games. Larsson scored 242 in 313 games over 7 seasons at Celtic. So they were comparably prolific, even if Larsson scored slightly more goals per game.

A look through the comments and when ally is mentioned henrick Larson name always get’s mentioned as well as if the were on a similar level lol. Even ally mccoist would admit that he couldn’t lace larsons boots. Larson was world class and would’ve walked into any team in the world in his prime. Ally was good in a dominant rangers side, Not so good early on in his rangers career when they had a very poor side.

If Ally played for any Big team in England or Europe he would have smashed record after record but Rangers was the only Club for him he played 3 seasons at Sunderland but they were a poor team and they never played to his strength Ally was a penalty box player English football never suited his playing style,he was homesick and returned to Glasgow. He is a Scotland legend

Winning two European golden boots is a complete myth. There was no golden boot awarded between 91-95. He was given two golden boots for being top scorer in Scotland. And if there had been such an award between those years for top European scorer he wouldn’t have won it either.

It was a good league at the time, not like now due to the different finances. He played in a team that was 1 goal away from the Champions League final against a team that was proven to have cheated, in Marseille by match fixing. They went that CL unbeaten. In that same season he was in the same team that beat the English Champions Leeds to qualify for that CL both home and away 2-1 to win 4-2 on aggregate
