Just Bursting With Nature! - Wood Turning

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

As soon as I saw the outside of this piece of Juniper I new I had to turn it right away! It took a lot of preparation and patience, but, in the end, it turned out to be one of my favorite pieces. Finished in shellac.

This piece is CLASSIC Phil Anderson. This may be the best piece you have ever turned. I absolutely love it. I am always concerned about your safety when turning a piece like this, but the risk is not the reason I love it. As you can see from my previous posts, your safety is always my primary concern. We cannot afford to lose our favorite turner, God bless you and keep you safe always.

I specifically like that broken drill bit. That piece is just incredible, Phil! I can’t even imagine the courage and patience turning that threatening monster took. One of my favorites for sure, you tamed the wildness of it just enough that it still looks very wild and natural. Incredible work as usual, though there’s nothing “usual” about it. It has a Zen quality as if it was shaped by flowing water. And as Bruce Lee would say, “You are that water.” Just a stunning piece, Phil. It was more than worth the risk.

Phil, I very much like the work that you do. Many people might like the perfect and symmetrical pieces that lack the nature that you incorporate in your pieces, but I see what you see and talk about. The life and struggles of the tree to survive, grow and eventually die and begin to be worked by the forces of nature are truly beautiful. This has revealed aspects of my own perceptions that I might not have ever understood otherwise. Thanks for that. Your patter as you work is also an enjoyable part of the creative performance you reveal to your viewers. I always feel more relaxed and peaceful when you have worked and brought a piece like this one into existence. So, thanks again and I hope you keep on doing more of what you do so well. Don Miller

Instead of of using a screw, you could carefully drill hole and use a dowel. Even more than one. If you carefully put glue in the hole it will be helpful. You could also put a groove up the side of dowel to relieve any glue pressure from driving it in. I'm sure you've thought of a lot of things.
