I enjoy turning natural pieces, mostly bowls. I try to leave as much nature in a piece as possible. Bark and bark inclusions, voids, cracks, are left alone for the most part. Though I've been turning for a few years I still consider myself to be in the learning stages. I would love it if you would come along for the ride. I'm sure we can share with each other what we have learned along the way.

Wow!
I do the same thing Phil I don't waste anything looks great
Great looking bowl
Looks great
Thanks, John! 😊
I'm not normally a fan of straight edges, but it's worth it to keep that knot. 😊
Agreed, thank you! 😊
I like the flat ends. And the coloring. The bark makes it stand out. Perfect looking wood. Love it.
Thanks so much, Stewart! 😊
I love it, it is very beautiful. As far as seeing an image ~ what I saw is an Ultrasound image of a baby.
Cool! Thank you very much, Elizabeth! 😊
Magic Phil turned Ugg to Beautiful Nice
Thanks, Howard! 😊
Unique. ❤ 👍👍👍
😊
Gorgeous ❤
Thank you! 😊
Hi Phil what a magnificent piece of Black Walnut it's got really awesome grain and markings and colouring. I really love your shape of bowl it's great. I love the purple , lilac colouring it's beautiful. The finish on this bowl is magnificent and really makes everything standout. Thank you for a fabulous video you truely areca masterwoodturner. Amanda xx
Thank you very much, Amanda! 😀
Love it Phil you the man
😀
Use a can of Airplane paint stripper, it will remove that coating and you can start over with Schlack.
😀
Very Beautiful bowl
Thank you so much, Dinah! 😊
Great little bowl! Love watching the videos. So glad you put them out once a week. I’ll be out of turning for a bit while I have my shoulder repaired! Age and sports have caught up with me. lol 😂
Thank you! Hang in there, this too shall pass! 😀
A braver man than me
Maybe just more curious? 😀
Another favorite Phil 2 bowls in one amazing you are a true visionary bowl turner
Thank you so much, Bobby! 😀
Will the tail stock come orr
Yes, it's removable but really heavy. I really don't think it would have helped. The problem was that big lip coming around and hitting whatever chisel I was using. 😀
Ha Phil I have been watching reruns. Lol
Cool, thanks, Michael! 😀
Have you turned a piece of Koa wood? Or Mango wood?
I have turned a piece of Koa. 😀 Two, actually, but the second one was a cutoff from the first one. Here are the videos: kzread.info/dash/bejne/f2Voupegp6i-iZs.html and the cutoff piece: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nYyGu9qupMe0ZNo.html I have a friend that lives up north from here but he has a place in Hawaii, too. He sent this to me.
WOW its just absolutely beautiful ❤
Glad you like it, thank you! 😀
Another beautiful piece Phil! You always amaze me with that you make out of something that I look at and scratch my head and think what will he turn that into!❤
Haha, thank you, Colleen! I always wonder, myself! 😀
Agreed. If you can join a guild, or club, you cn get tutoring and enough experince to find out if you like turning, with only the outlay of membership..Generally this is far less expensive than buying a lathe, tools etc.
😀
I'm working on my first burl today
You got this! 😀
My way of getting more of you young man. Lol
I appreciate that, Michael! 😀
Howdy Phil nice job looks Awesome!👍 I ain’t really got a clue what kinda wood it is but the outer white-ish wood color looks like Ash…
Thanks👍Kimsey! Valerie says it is Pecan. A first for me! 😀
Cool bowl
😀
I’m so glad that you’re okay after that, but yes I guess some you win some you lose but every day is the school day. I guess this is one of your days. Did you ever find out any more about it? I wonder. Maybe you should send it to the military for them to use as some kind of chemical weapon🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Never found out any other info, Martin. Scary stuff! 😀
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop wow that is really scary indeed. Must be some kind of element may be in the resin that was in that wood because it looked really evident it was there. I’m glad you kept hold of the peace anyway and didn’t get rid of it, but keep away from it obviously that goes without saying.. it would be good to get to the bottom of it seeing as it made you feel so bad. I know that some wood can give off toxins in their sawdust which I heard somebody mentioned before but I really do think that it was something in the resin within that wood😭. I’m really glad you’re okay though my friend. I really do look forward to your videos as I think they are so educational :-)
Tuffy to the rescue again. Capn Eddy was a great teacher as well as a BSer’ extroadanair. What an interesting piece of wood. As always. Very well done. ❤ 👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it, Steve, thanks! 😀
Fun stuff, Phil!
Thanks, Wally! 😀
Wow...breathtaking!!!
A very pleasant surprise for me, Sarah. I'm glad you like it, too, thank you! 😀
Another great piece that you brought to life. Mother nature gives you the wood to make magic out of.
So true! 😀
Very nice!
Thanks for the visit 😀
Maybe silly adding a comment to a 2 year old video but has anyone mentioned that the wood in the Bear Butt Bowl might be in the Locust family?
Not silly at all! You'd have to read through the comments, I can't remember if anyone mentioned Locust or not, Harold. 😀
It is a magnificent piece. . I enjoy your videos. Now that I retired; I am looking forward to wood turning as well.
Thank you very much! 😀 It's a great hobby and I started when I retired, too!
Odd absorption of the finish for sure. Ever consider removing ALL of the bark? I think that I would have liked to see the natural wood edge all the way around the top.without ANY bark left.
It's often a consideration, Mike. 😀
Hey Phil, this one was interesting. Do you have a goose neck carbide hollower? I would have taken the log wings off and rounded out the base, never thinking of keeping it log-like.
Yeah, I do have one of those hollowers, Kevin. The problem was the wing coming around. Not sure anything would have worked. 😀
Looks great. It looked like you took a heck of a beating on the outside. And good luck getting stuff cleaned up so you can get stuff cleaned up.
Haha, the cleaning is done and yeah, it was a two-day chore! Then, all looking good, the wind came last night and now the ground is covered again with little red things that fall from the Fir trees! Oh, well! 😀
It will be fantastic
😀
Nice bowl, Phil. As much as you sharpened, I expected your newer gouge to match your older one lol. Bill
It's getting there in a hurry, Bill! I guess I've had some tough pieces lately. I think I've take 2" off of it! 😀
Amazing outcome. Skillful technique for a three sized bowl. Trace Amigos Salute!
Thank you so much 😀
If you would only tilt the piece a little bit father toward the camera and you could see the old man along the edge. Great job of saving him. I could see him before you started and was worried the hole time because you had not pointed him out before hand .Great job. 27:16 27:16
😀
Rotten
Nope 😀
My question is about your drill press. Mine is as old. I have trouble lifting my table. I'm wondering how do you lift your table
I do just that, Dana, I lift it. I'm 76 and each year it gets more and more difficult but so far, still doable. I do find that if you keep the column clean and lubricated, it makes the job much easier. 😀
You should soak wood like that in wood hardener for about a week or cactus juice and a vacuum chamber. Cactus juice is best but it can be a pain to get at times. We use it alot in stabilizing wood. Brand name is cactus juice.
Very familiar with it. For me, it makes the wood feel like plastic and that's just not the feel or look I'm after. But, yeah, it stabilizes it! 😀
Thank you Phil for all the tips. A beautiful piece
Thanks for watching, Chris! 😀
Phil, I really love your design. It is artistic, as well as functional! Not your "normal" turning, but I like it!
Thank you very much! 😀
My goodness, what a beautiful piece!!
Thank you very much! 😀
very nice, and from a cast off
Indeed! 😀
