Jurassic Coast Fossil Hunting Tips (PART 1)

Let’s go fossil hunting along the Jurassic Coast. I am fossil hunting West of Lyme Regis today. I’m going fossil hunting along the Jurassic Coast at low tide. I’d like to see the ammonite pavement West Of Lyme Regis. This area is a protected site for everyone to see. I recommend wearing safety glasses and sturdy rubber gloves when hammering the right little rocks on the beach at low tide. Fossil hunting really does take hours of patience and persistence. Remember the cliffs are dangerous and liable to fall suddenly and without warning. Keep away from the dangerous cliffs, the best fossils are washed out onto the beaches at low tide, by the sea's actions. Look out for the slippery seaweed on the ledges and rocks. Good luck 🤞 fossil hunting at low tide, along the Jurassic Coast through to the West. Just past the ammonite pavement is Seven Rocks Point. There are many big boulders but among them are patches of iron pyrite. In the scoured out patches there, you can find some nice little fossil finds sometimes. Beware of the dangerous cliffs that are liable to fall suddenly and without warning ❕

Thanks for the reply Brandon. A few times today some shale came falling down onto the limestone slabs! Thankfully I was well away from the cliffs. Found a devil’s toenail, a brachiopod, crinoid stem and a piece of Ichthyosaur jaw bone 😍

I really wish i could go and visit Lyme Regis to go fossil hunting but its really expensive for me to get there :(
