Junkyard Crawl for an 84 Nissan 720 4x4 in Monroe Louisiana
The stars just happened to line up for me and a road trip. I had work to do in the neighboring town of Ruston, Louisiana.
The junkyard inventory in Monroe Louisiana showed a 1984 Nissan 720 King Cab 4x4 had been in the yard for over a hundred days. It's been tough trying to come up with an excuse to go see it, being that it's a considerable distance/drive for my 82 Datsun pickup.
I met some very nice and cool people along the way and back too. I truly enjoyed it, even though I barely made it in time. I got there 20 minutes' to closing time, that's when the manager starts people to start heading back to the counter and is hesitant to let someone in the yard. I assured them I would be less than that, but I end up having trouble finding the Nissan 720. The yard is huge and full too! I asked them it could be, but they didn't seem know they even had one in the yard. Fun times, also hot as heck, I thought Fall was here already.

Back in the day, the Nissan 720 mini trucks were so ubiquitous, they were almost an un-vehicle. Now they are quite uncommon nowadays, especially to be seen as daily drivers, I notice every 720 that I do see though. I've owned 3 720 pickups daily drivers over the last 25 years: an 82 2wd King Cab, an 84 2wd King Cab MPG model and my current 84 2wd King Cab that I bought with 87K original miles from the second owner back in early 2008. It now has over 250K miles and still runs strong. These are simple and durable vehicles that will outlast anything on the road with proper maintenance.

Hello. Rust is a very common problem with these trucks. Also, a blown head gasket can be an issue due to the aluminum head and corrosion and mating to the iron block, different metals. Possible Rust in frame. You want to be patient and be sure to check all fluids and ask what maintenance was done and what parts have been replaced. If the truck has been painted, be sure to look close for body work over rust. Sometimes you can tell by the person who owns it if they took good care of the vehicle, as they will have records or receipts of work done or parts replaced. Good luck! Thanks for asking.
