July Reads | 1-star reviews pick my books

Welcome to month three of 1-star Goodreads reviews picking some of my monthly reads.
As a mood reader, quite often I will go with my gut, but when you have a HUGE physical TBR there really needs to be some sort of intervention, and that's what this unconventional 'take a chance' method has proved to be.
If you haven't seen June's video yet, you can find that here ( • One-Star Reviews Pick ... ) so you can catch up on the books I'm reviewing in this video...and then see what I think of the picks for this month!
Have you read any of them? What did you think? Will they be books I unhaul in August, or will I love them until the end of time? Only one way to find out!

I have read none of these because my reading taste is a bit more niche but you have made me interested in The Familiar. I may pick it up!

I used to be incredibly niche, but then found that I was getting into a slump more frequently. What is your specific niche?

@@beingbookishpod It's mostly what I would describe as "weird horror" lol. Last Days by Brian Evenson and Dead Boys by Gabriel Squailia are two of my favorites. It's just these bizarre things that are presented casually as fact and you're like "Oh, okay, this is the world I'm in." Sometimes though you just want a fuzzy romance so I'm thinking heavily of trying to read something by Emily Henry. It makes me inwardly cringe a little but my brain wants a happy break haha. If you have "happy break" suggestions, by all means!

@@superkitten7560 I haven't read any Emily Henry, but I do get the need to occasionally have a happy break. Those books sound incredible, the sort of thing I devoured when I was younger and in a horror King, Koontz phase. If you want something light that has a romantic bit, maybe a little mystical/magical tone, then maybe Ashley Poston?
