He is not in jail. He was charged, made bail, fled the country, asked for political asylum in Ecuadorian Embassy in UK, and then lived there for a decade so as not to be extradited to face the charges which at one point were super low given the amount of harm he produced. Snowden also never went to jail, he fled to Russia and has lived there since becoming a propaganda piece against The West despite RUS's war on UKR since 2014, and RUS's locking up people for protesting w/ blank paper, and RUS's free and fair elections. What I am getting at is that you are ignorant.

I agree that people need to know the truth. But, when that truth ends up getting important agents we have placed in Russia who are letting us know that the Russians are meddling, and it is exposed to the Russians how we knew this, then people who have let us know this within Russia can easily then be assassinated. People literally die because of leaks.

But as things stand, basic facts are being withheld from the public and we've become unable to even know whether we're being lied to or not. @@KZreadCensorsEverything I'm not claiming that full transparency is the solution. It's obviously quite a bit more complicated than that. But what I'm claiming is that the mere existence of a power that is able to spin the truth at their own discretion without any oversight is a fundamental problem to the idea that power is vested in the people. What makes it worse is that such power has been put into the hands of unelected career officials who've made it their morbid game to hide their own existence behind the guise of national security. This isn't about making nuclear launch codes public, this is about the people's ability and integrity to decide who's in control over the damn nukes.

I would like to believe that he would have been better off surrendering to the US, had his trial, and then if convicted, appealed to the Supreme Court. I'm 66 years old and for most of my live I've believed the US were good guys and would do what's right, but since the late 2000's, I don't believe that anymore.

what makes you say that? do you expect interviews by reporters to just remind the subject how smart and interesting they are? Tell them how proud of him he was? His job is to ask difficult or contrary questions that work to pull interesting perspectives and insights from the subject to the viewer. If a reporter just does interviews to praise and admire and show the world how perfectly great the subject is, I've got news for you, you wouldn't be watching journalism, you'd be watching propaganda.

But that's just what my perception was of this interview. Id understand many people would see it differently.

it isn't, of course everyone feels that's how their government should operate. However, basically no serious person would argue that the government should have no secrets. I'm sure you can image the names and addresses of our spy's working in other countries or perhaps the manufacturing specs for hydrogen bombs might be better left as secrets. The more complicated and interesting question is who should be able to decide what secrets should stay secret, and which are blowing the whistle to hold institutions and powerful people accountable.

44:00 60 Minutes: As of 2015, "4,000,000 Americans now hold security clearances." This means that the principle of isonomy or "the equal application of the laws to all," (sometimes mistakenly and misleadingly called "the rule of law") is no longer abided by. Democracy and isonomy are the two core values that categorize nations as "western civilization," or "liberal democracy." Additionally, the government admits the procedure for granting those security clearances is backlogged and unreliable. So, in a very real sense, the USA ceased to exist after the 9/11/2001 attacks. We got involved in wars that had nothing to do with defense...wars we were goaded into. Wars that murdered hundreds of thousands of innocent people. Instead of savings and wealth...we got war and an even more bloated government that further suppresses individual rights.
