In an interview with the costume designer, she said that the director really wanted the dress to be black and she had to fight for it to be red. Plus, she mentioned that she was surprised by how many Texas oil men wanted to have this dress created for their wives so they could re-enact the scene.

Can you imagine that? Flying up to San Francisco for the evening to go see an opera!! What a classy dude ... 🙂

I watched a series on Netflix called ‘Movies we grew up with’ and an episode focused on Pretty Woman. The original title was 3000 but the studio producer who apparently for the most part was useless insisted the film be called Pretty Woman. On that call he was definitely right.

That's one of the things I love about Gary Marshall as a director. He wasn't about perfection in his movies, he loved leaving in little moments like that. Sometimes they were, as Bob Ross calls them, "Happy Accidents". They made his films special.

Not the first time a bit of spontaneity was introduced into a scene. In Roman Holiday, Gregory Peck placed his hand into the Mouth Of Truth and pretends his hand is bitten off, Audrey Hepburn didn't know that was going to happen and her reaction on camera was a genuine one. William Wyler, the director loved it and included it as a one take scene.

0:28 The jewelery box snapping scene was originally staged as a practical joke intended for the film’s gag reel. But Julia's laugh was pure gold so it was put right into the film!

Hector Elizondo was brilliant in this film too. Brilliant actor!

To be treated like a lady every lady wants to feel special. Even if he’s wearing ripped jeans and it’s a daisy chain necklace. It’s how he makes her feel number one. How he protects her. How he looks into her eyes how he tightly he holds her hand. How he gently smiles at her mistakes. It’s all free you can never put a price on divine love. It was written before he had a penny. If he doesn’t trust the process God or his own feelings . He’s a fool you can always style a lady. Just look inside not outside. The same for a man. Until you learn that you haven’t evolved or learnt any lessons. 💙

I will say that this red dress and the red 'dress of shame' Scarlett O'Hara wore in Gone With The Wind are my top favorite red dresses in a film. closely followed by Scarlett's red dressing gown she wore in the scenes before Rhett, well, 'ravished' her.
