Julia Hartley-Brewer CLASHES With Caller On Jewish Man Stopped At Pro-Palestine Protest

Britain’s biggest police force needs to rebuild the trust of the Jewish community after an antisemitism campaigner was threatened with arrest at a pro-Palestine demonstration, the Prime Minister has said.
Rishi Sunak told journalists that he shared public shock and anger over exchanges between Gideon Falter, chief executive of the Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA), and officers policing the protest in central London on April 13.
But he said he has confidence in the head of the Metropolitan Police, Sir Mark Rowley, if the commissioner works to rebuild the confidence and trust of the Jewish community and the wider public.
Sir Mark has faced calls to resign from Mr Falter and former home secretary Suella Braverman, who has made no secret of her critical views of how the Metropolitan Police has dealt with protests.
He is due to meet with Mayor of London Sadiq Khan on Monday to discuss “community relations”, and is also expected to meet Home Secretary James Cleverly.
Julia Hartley-Brewer clashes with caller Hussein after police described a man as “openly Jewish” near a pro-Palestine protest.
Hussein: “He wanted to provoke a reaction!”
Julia: “You can only provoke a reaction if the people on the other side are provoked by you!”

Gideon Falter (who is not just an average London Jewish person but Chief Executive of Campaign Against Antisemitism) went with a team of people including security guards & a cameraman to a pro Palestinian March where he proceeded to walk into the march, against the flow of protesters in several different locations (not trying to just cross the road as he claimed) In the full 15 minute video the Police are being courteous & helpful & even guide him to safe crossing places & offer to escort him across the road - all of which he refuses. The only idiotic thing the Police said was refer to him as “openly Jewish” which is part of the very short & select clip used. The Policeman says he is concerned about his safety because of his provocative actions, not just because he’s Jewish, but because he is evidently Jewish (wearing a yamaka) deliberately trying to push into the Center of a pro Palestine march & walk against the flow. When Falter asks for proof the Policeman says “this man saw you” Falter replies “but I don’t know this man” whereupon the Policeman informs him that the man is an undercover officer & then Falter looks visibly mortified. The Police were concerned for his safety, not because he was Jewish but because he was being a provocative troublemaker. As usual at these events there were a large number of “openly Jewish” pro Palestine protesters who were all fine which defies the logic of the news reports. The full video should be viewed

Which is totally unacceptable, if a Jewish man wants to cross the road where they are protesting he as the right to do so. If these are peaceful marches, why would they be bothered if he crossed the road. It’s because they want to rule them streets and not let anyone with a different opinion on them streets. I’m not Jewish , I don’t support these marchers opinions. But if I want to walk where these protesters are, I’m quite within my rights. But that as been taken away from me, where are my rights. Agree, the problem is not whether the Jewish man was there innocently, I also don't think he was, but he proved his point. That the police have assessed these protests as being unsafe for openly Jewish people and people who disagree with them. On top of that it's the polices duty to protect law abiding people, even if that Jewish man was there to stir the pot, he has the right to do so and the police should have an obligation to protect him not threaten to arrest him. It has rings of school to me, I remember there was tonnes of bullies in my middle school that relentlessly bullied this girl. Rather then deal with the bullies they took the girl out of class where she had to work alone and lost out on education and social interaction. Its the same thing. It may be harder to deal with 1000s of protestors but that shouldn't stop you doing your job even if it's for one person and if it does something needs to be done about violent elements of the protest.

Look, maybe the Jewish man did deliberately go there to counter protest or prove a point. I do agree that I somewhat feel for the police, they are having to assess risk and if its detaining one jewish man vs 1000s of angry protestors thats what they do. Howeved It doesn't matter and does not look good. The problem is that if someone was to counter protest and merely being openly Jewish is enough to worry the police enough to ask him to leave or threaten to arrest him that's a huge issue. It suggests that these protests are assessed by the police to be ticking time bombs of violence. Plus the police irregardless of how hard it is its their duty to protect people not punish them. Jewish people or anyone who disagrees with the protestors should be able to go abojt their lives in peace and the police have an obligation a duty to ensure that. Its a shame we are mistreating the most well integrated group in the country.

[5.63] Why do not the learned men [rabbis] and the doctors of law prohibit them from their speaking of what is sinful and their eating of what is unlawfully acquired? Certainly evil is that which they work! 9:34] Oh you who believe! most surely many of the doctors of law [rabbis] and the monks eat away the property of men falsely, and turn them from Allah's way, and (as for) those who hoard up gold and silver and do not spend it in Allah's way, announce to them a painful chastisement. Perhaps you should read up the wiki page on Jizya too. Not sure how you can call a society tolerant that imposes extra taxes and rules against those who do not partake in the state religion. I don't say this to criticize Islam, because back then there were no truly tolerant societies as we would view them today.

Many people on this 'peaceful' march were continually breaking the laws of this country by shouting out hateful chants and calling this 'openly Jewish' man insulting names. Yet, the police ignored them as they have done every time these marches have taken place. I was there on Saturday, although I never saw this incident. I saw many branches of the law in these so-called' peaceful' marchers.

He did not push anyone. Officers stopped him and threatened him with arrest if he did not leave the area. The officers accused him of being provocative despite the fact that he was just standing at the side of the road because he was 'openly Jewish'. If the Police are so frightened of the possibility of violence from the minority of thugs in the protest march then why did they allow it to proceed. The Police have the right to ban a march on the grounds of public order and safety. This is beyond ludicrous.

I am not on this guys side for what his complaint caused Tommy Robinson, but if he set out to prove a point he succeeded very well. These marches are not peaceful and either the police should ban them or control the amount of protesters to the level they can control them, that they have the right to do under the law, and not use the excuse they don,t have enough serving personnel. Would white and light skinned people including Muslims be told to stay off the street if it was a BLM march??? Or Tomorrow on St Georges day only the White English could stand around??? Tomorrow is a celebration of all the good England stands for like free speech, the right to worship freely, free choice and many more privileges that many countries don,t have.

Utter bollocks. The Police Sergeant was exemplary in being polite, offering a solution etc. The campaigner was wrong and was offered an alternative way. Nothing to do with antisemitism, just professional advice. The protester wanted confrontation and didn't accept the 'let-out clause' , was offered a way to avoid the confrontation he so obviously craved. His problem, not the Police. His status was bleeding obvious so, quite rightly he was advised to accept advice and he chose to ignore it and then had the cheek to complain about his treatment. Police; damned if they do and damned if they don't. I'm on his side but his actions probably haven't helped the cause.
