Uncle, you should dig out the root suckers, with the roots, and pot them. It will have the characteristics of your rootstock. Once established, you can graft onto them from your existing tree. Then you will get the same fruit that you're getting now.

Can you root the rootstock suckers? I have a new jujube and two tiny rootstock suckers. I would like to pot them up. Is that possible?

how do you dig it out at the root? It grows straight out of the large roots from the main tree.

@@LK-3000 Yes. Start digging until you get to the base of the sucker. Cut it away or pull it away from the main tree. Pot it. Wait. It can establish a new root system. Once it becomes a nice new tree, cut it and graft it.

@@LK-3000 yes, I got wild jujube sucker from my friend house and transplant it into a pot, let it sit in my little green house. Water it once a week until the trunk is big enough to graft a honey jujube scion. It produce 6 sweet juicy jujube fruit in 3 month. Now it is 2 year old grown 7ft tall in full sun with lots of flowers

My friend Amy gave me 3 cases of jujube fruits harvest from her yard . she had cut down her jujube tree because its roots grew into the neighbor yard under the common retention wall, aim straight into their swimming pool foundation. Very expensive repair.

Jujube trees are great, ours it’s just a common Chinese but is thorny but manageable, as you said the suckers grow a couple feet from the tree, no issues. Eventually will get one 6 to 8 feet away, i’ve let them grow then go dormant in the winter, dig them up and repot give them out to any Friends that want them, very productive trees , it’s one of the few trees I know the hotter it gets the better grows, 👍

Have you tried the fruits from the suckers? I did. It is not the same as you have above the graft point...small size fruits with sweet and tart taste meat, but the stone is quite large in relation to the meat. I like the taste but do not like the big thorns and have no space for them. So I remove them (a lot of them) when they pop up.
