This clip truly makes me miss the violin. I used to have a strong drive for music, and that no longer exists. I still pick up my fiddle and do some scales, old songs I'd learned, and fiddle tunes. But the willingness to drown myself in music again is not there. This video gives me a small taste of that love I once had.

Focusing on music- whether at Julliard or any other non-university music school- seems splendid. Everything one does helps them grow as a musician. Conversely, when one is studying at a high school (especially a small one with a poor music program), they are forced to waste energy on things that do not help them improve (brass players understand this especially). I cannot wait until life feels like Summer vacation all of the time; I can play etudes, excerpts, exercises, and solos that help me improve, and I can do so for more than a mere two hours each day.

I love music with a burning passion. Music is my life, couldn’t imagine my life without the special connection/bond I’ve been blessed to have with music. I have been playing the violin since 4th grade and I’m in 11th now. I’m joining chamber orchestra as well as treble Choir which are the competitive groups at my school. I’m honestly very nervous about life because I’m unsure about what I should do. I know I want music to be incorporated in my life and potentially a career for me but I don’t know if I’m personally Good enough to get into a great school like Juilliard because I like playing the violin but I know there’s others who are better from taking private lessons, I love dancing but yet, I’ve never taken dance classes before in my entire life. I love acting and being apart of musicals etc but again, others are better than me from their advantages of doing many musicals and being able to take acting classes. On another note, I also love singing. I’m an Alto and I love doing all of these things equally so it’s very hard to decide and even if I wanted to apply for a school like this and take the next step music wise, I always have that question of “am I good enough”... I guess the three top things I love doing is dancing, singing and playing my violin. I also have found myself interested in songwriting and playing piano but ugh I don’t really know, it’s hard to decide because another question I’d have for myself is can I do them all because I feel like I’d have to choose between them all and stick to just one thing and Lord knows, I simply wouldn’t be able to because my life revolves around the music and the arts world itself, it doesn’t revolve around one part of art like dance or just drama or just vocals, or instruments, or songwriting, instead it’s all for me. Then there’s this side of me that loves helping people, specifically children so I could settle for a career that helps children like a teacher or a social worker but then my question would be “would I truly be satisfied” and I don’t want to miss out on an experience I could have with music but also trying to distinguish if I should just keep music as a hobby and do what everyone else does as a career will be best for me. I’ve never wanted to settle for a job or career that doesn’t involve my passion because my passion is just apart of who I am but I fear that me not having the same advantages as others, will truly set me back even if I wanted to try to apply to an amazing school like this that would allow me to gain so much knowledge and go far.

Anna and the Violin lol... thank you very much. Never think you’re too young to be of help to anyone. You certainly have given me something to think about for sure . Honestly, , nothing is off the the table right now.

“They don’t look at us as stupids” I laughed so hard for some reason- maybe because I stayed up too late practicing!😆🎻

I am a high school composer and will soon be applying for schools. Can someone tell the difference between music education in Europe vs US? I am a very traditional tonal composer and I want to go somewhere that will really help me in that path.
