Judy Garland with Diahann Carroll-Rodgers and Arlen Medley
Ойын-сауық
I was going to wait a bit to upload this video because it was not to long ago that this was on youtube. But I was looking through my videos and realized when I titled this video I forgot to put who she sings it with.
I have no idea who she is!?!
UPDATE: I fixed it. Thanks to the lovely people of KZread.

Diahann Carroll: Born July 17, 1935 - Died October 4, 2019 at the age of 84 (Cancer). She was an American actress, singer and model. She rose to stardom in performances in some of the earliest major studio films to feature black casts, including Carmen Jones in 1954 and Porgy and Bess in 1959. In 1962, Carroll won a Tony Award for best actress, a first for a black woman, for her role in the Broadway musical No Strings. Her 1968 debut in Julia, the first series on American television to star a black woman in a nonstereotypical role, was a milestone both in her career and the medium. In the 1980s she played the role of a mixed-race diva in the primetime soap opera Dynasty. Carroll was the recipient of numerous stage and screen nominations and awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress In A Television Series in 1968. She received an Academy Award for Best Actress nomination for the 1974 film Claudine.

Miss Carroll was a fixture on American TV during the late 1960s and 1970s. I remember my family of 6 would sit around the TV console and be thrilled by her singing talent and exquisite beauty. She was featured on many TV variety shows during this period. Rest peacefully you precious gem of a Lady, we will always remember the joy that your brought us all! Bravo and Bravo and Bravo!
Yeah, and they said the same thing about Dionne Warwick, Nancy Wilson, and the 5th Dimension...ALL of which opened doors so that others following them wouldn't have such a hard way to go. Love them all!
Now a duet in Heaven.
I just directed a PBS concert special to air in August, which stars Diahann Carroll live in Palm Springs in her one-woman show, backed by the Pat Rizzo Orchestra. She is just a s beautiful as ever and an absolute delight to work with. Chip Miller/Director
Judy could sing with anybody. The chosen keys were always the "other person's". This is a gem ....beautiful, talented women who show each other great respect and singing together. A time long gone...
God, this is great! Seeing and hearing them makes me so happy. Rest In Peace, both beautiful ladies. 💕
Judy Garland is simply outstanding. No one could compete with her voice. I hope you are happy over the rainbow.
Judy healthy and it shows in her singing effortlessly.
Sleep in peace, Ms. Carroll. This is a wonderful medley.
Just great. This must have been around the time Diahann was starring in "No Strings" on Broadway, by Richard Rodgers. Such fun to watch.

@waynegabi At the end of her Archive of American Television Interview, she's asked about many people she's worked with. Judy's mentioned and Diahann called her "the most overwhleming performer that she can remember" she says a bit more and just ends by saying that Judy was "extraordinary".

that was because she frequently worked with scripts, and memorizing is something you have to do with your dialogue. What is impressive is that she was always mesmerizing after she had finished memorizing...a claim few others can make.
#DominiqueDeveraux Ms. Carroll many thanks for all your talent & work r.i.p 😍 simply stunning
TWO BEAUTIFUL WOMEN WITH GREAT SINGING TALENT💕💝💕💕
I never knew Diahann sung like this!💟💟💟
I love the fact that Judy was among some of the first white hosts to have black performers on their shows in the 60's when other white hosts would not. Carroll, Lena Horne and others were able to appear on highly respected shows including Frank Sinatra and Ed Sullivan. But I LOVE Judy Garland best! And as a Black woman I respect, admire and revere her memory!!!!! WHAT A WOMAN !!!!!!!
A lot of people don't know that Diane Carroll was once a Model for Ebony. Her singing is strongly underrated. Her voice is really divine. She was one of Broadway's most colorful actresses. I have never seen her make a fashion mistake and she has always been the definition of 'dignity' for any woman. There's a book on her and Sidney Portier. He spurned this beautiful woman. I love her and have watched her all my life. I'm so glad she's still around. :D
Garland looks and photographs great here! They say she was an exceedingly quick study with dance routines!
These were talents that made their work look easy breezy.

SO SO TRUE....SHE WAS AMAZINGLY TALENTED IN SO MANY WAYS!
@VIKDR1
5 жыл бұрын
What does this mean? What exactly is her "just due"? She won the Golden Globe in 1968 for best actress in a television series. She also won a Tony Award in 1962, but that's Broadway, not "Hollywood". In 76 she had the Diahann Carroll show. A summer replacement show in the Carol Burnett slot. That's not a sign of disrespect. She has experienced racism of course, she was born in 1935 after all. But she was also part of helping to bring down that racism. But I can't find where she's been slighted. From what I've seen she's considered a well respected icon of the industry.

Extraordinarily beautiful Carroll. NO STRINGS is probably an underrated musical because it was composed by Richard Rodgers who had a few bigger hits. With a resume like his NO STRINGS might appear minor. Great medley by the way: usually they sing the more famous songs, but these were the less famous songs of these great composers.

@filmmekker: Judy also had Count Basie on her show. And as Brendan Konicki said, The Judy Garland Show only lasted for 26 weeks. In addition, she had several other minority guests and/or groups on her show, such as Latino, etc. And this was in 1963!
