That's the reason Judy is the greatest performer in show business history. She can rip your heart out one minute, and make you smile and laugh the next. She fit right in with THE COUNT, and they fit right in with her. Is there no stlye Judy can't sing? Answer: NO. She truly is the greatest ever, she DID IT ALL. TO BAD THE ACADEMY DIDN'T WANT HER TO WIN THE OSCAR. BECAUSE I ABSOLUTELY BELIEVE SHE GOT ENOUGH VOTES TO WIN FOR A STAR IS BORN, AND FOR JUDGEMENT AT NUREMBURG. BUT, I DON'T BELIEVE THE ACADEMY WAS EVER GOING TO LET HER. I also believe she should have been nominated for best Actress for I could go on singing. I did really like that movie that much, but, she was outstanding in it. Boy, that lady could really act. SHE COULD DO EVERYTHING, AND DO IT OUTSTANDINGLY. ALL THAT TALENT CONTAINED IN ONE 4'11" BODY IS INSANE BUT TRUE.

Mr. Rankin,. What are you talking about? What sets Judy apart from everyone else is she makes her audience feel what she's singing about. She puts everything she's got into every song she sings. When her performance is done, so is she. There is absolutely nothing left in her tank, she's totally out of gas. She never cheats her audience. Sometimes, her voice wasn't in the best of shape, but, her audience got everything she had. I've read that there were times when she finished a Concert that she had to be helped to her dressing room. She was so spent. You Sir can use all the fancy terminology you wish, but, push comes to shove, SHE IS THE GREATEST TALENT, AND GREATEST ENTERTAINER AND HAS THE GREATEST STAGE PRESENCES, AND IS THE MOST MESMERIZING PERFORMER EVER. SIR YOU ARE ENTITLED TO YOUR STUCK-UP OPINION, BUT, IT'S ALL HOG-WASH.

A complete text book on singing, and all in under fifteen minutes: how to project, how to phrase, how to improvise, how to communicate with your audience, how to use a mike, how to use the performing space, how to use your voice, face, body, and -- above all -- your INTELLIGENCE, to turn words and music into an experience that stays with the viewer forever. It's all here, in one concert and in one performer.... without doubt the one entertainer who is truly the best there ever was. Thank you!

I mean, no offense, there's a lot she does quite well, but her technique is a far cry from "a complete text book on singing." There are shitloads of classically trained vocalists who could out sing her on almost every front. Her big success isn't vocal ability, it's her creation as entertainment celebrity in the modern era, especially, because of television.

Abram Rankin - named one who could out sing Judy? You don't know what are you talking about, she wasn't famous because tv, she was famous since she open her mouth to sing when she 13 years old, zing went to the strings of my heart.

  • @srobindittrich6599

@@AbramRankin - Abram, we're not just talking about mere technique concerning Judy's vocal abilities. Judy, as a triple threat talent dancer, singer, and actress had the ability to capture her audience's hearts, minds, and very souls to their very core. How many singers/actresses can you name who can take command of a stage like Judy? NO ONE! ONLY JUDY! Judy had the intelligence and emotional capacity to use every sense of her body to interpret the story of every song she sang into pure magical art. We are not just talking about viewing a singer made famous through packaging techniques on TV. Please do not attempt to categorize Ms Garland as some cheap reality star like the no talents we have today. Ms Garland was and still is the real deal. She used no autotune or fancy stage pyrotechnics or cheap scantily clad costumes to showcase her skills. Judy just performed and remained true to her artistic spirit, and the whole world fell in love with Judy.

@@srobindittrich6599 Absolutely correct on all points. NOT RENEE, NOT RUFUS, maybe Judy Davis & Tammy Blanchard, but certainly NOT RENEE!!! Her moves might of been like Judy's, but NOT her singing. I was utterly disgusted to learn that Renee Zellweger used Judy's life in the years close to her death. I mean you want to celebrate the good times not the bad times even when she was doing concerts singing her songs & other entertainers songs from years passed like Al Jolson. I have never sung a Judy song in public, only infront of family, as I'm not sure if I could vocally. I have watched Judy Garland time and again and her concerts. SHES FANOMINALLY FLAWLESS PEOPLE, BETTER THAN THIS CRAP MUSIC YOU GET TODAY LIKE RAP CRAP, BEAT BOX, GARAGE...THATS SOMETHING YOU PUT YOUR CAR INTO OR NIC NACKS. Was it Morts arrangement, or was it Rogers? I believe Mr. Edens was one of the very few people at M.G.M. that Judy trusted. It was a trust and a friendship that lasted the rest of her life. He wrote songs for some of her movies, and I think special material for her later under the table. I have read that Mr. Edens was a lifelong friend, and when things got awful for Judy at times, Roger was there. I truly hope so. ROGER AND MORT THANK YOU FROM A HUGE JUDY FAN, SINCE I WAS 8 YEARS OLD.

@@terrysmith8749 I think the first time Judy sang this was on her TV show. She sang it twice, this is the second time which I like better. Mort was the arranger for the TV series and had help from Mel Tormé with special material in the series. Both brilliant, but I would say this was definitely a Mort arrangement. I have a recording from the Judy & Liza concert in London where Judy has to start ALAHNM several times before she gets it right, when she does, the audience applauds, but it is also brilliant.

Robert, Liza is not even close to her mom. Not even in the same ballpark. Liza is loud and often way off key. And if sweating gets you brownie points, then rack them up, because Judy was a sweater. Liza also doesn't have her mom's charisma. Sammy is a tremendous entertainer, but, he is not as great as the LEGEND. Absolutely no disrespect to Sammy, he really is great.

There aren't many performers who give me goosebumps as they sing , in this case Judy on her finishing notes on as long as he needs me because although as she got older there were some age issues in her voice( I mean she lived a hard life she isn't Perry Como), her ability to connect with an audience, and you personally, is unrivaled. The emotion she was able to project with her voice is what draws you in, and that luscious sound just keeps you connected.

You are so right. I wish Liza, Lorna and Joey would put together a script showing the sunny, funny side of their mom. I'm so sick of the way they (not her kids) portray her. I'd like to see the loving mom her kids talk about, the sense of humor she had. I never got to see her in concert... but I watched the Judy Garland show every Sunday night. And loved every minute of it.

I have to disagree. I adore Judy Garland but that film showed the horrendously sad part of her life that I think needs to be shown. She lived such a troubled life all because of how Hollywood used to treat their stars. I don't think the film showed Judy as a junkie, they showed her as a victim of many different crimes over the course of her life. Yet the film still showed her talent, presence and also her kindness towards others. If we make a biopic we cant sugarcoat what happened to them. I don't see how you can watch the film and leave thinking they showed her as a junkie. They showed how she was treated through her childhood and how it impacted the rest of her life. It showed how badly she was treated in marriages. Many people on the surface would just see Judy Garland as an addict, I think this film helped show audiences, she was not just an addict who succumbed to drugs, she was far more than that. Renee Zellweger certainly seems to have the upmost respect for Judy and I believe she did her justice and showed Judy in a positive light despite all she went through in the movie. Of course, I totally respect your opinion, just wanted to offer a fresh perspective.

JUDY BECAME ADDICTED TO A DRUG BECAUSE M.G.M. GOT HER ADDICTED. IF SHE WAS TIRED OR SICK, IT DIDN'T MATTER, GET HER IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA. YOU KNOW WHAT TO GIVE HER. GIVE HER ONE EVERY COUPLE OF HOURS. They won't Hurt her they're just to give her a little burst of energy. Judy wasn't a self made addict, the studio got her addicted, and it started as a teenager. THEY SCREWED UP HER LIFE BECAUSE THEY OVER WORKED HER. I TRULY HOPE THAT MAYER IS SWEATING BULLETS IN HELL FOR WHAT HE DID TO JUDY.

Love Judy. After the Carnegie concert she recreated it for television. Is there any copy that could be seen. It would be a coup.

Poor Judy sang and worked her tail end off . Unfortunately when she'd get paid $50.000.00 at the end of the night. She owed $70.000.00 😢😢 She could never get money in her pocket.

Judy was never handed money. Her Mangers, accounts, lawyers, and husband Sid ripped her off big time. And what I don't understand is, why doesn't the account who's in charge of taking care of wealthy people's money doesn't go to jail when they don't pay their taxes. Isn't their job. Should be.

Totally agree..Now that movie is a mess bc they basically cut the film for time (30 minutes) & never saved anything that was cut. Directors Cukor & Luft (her husband) were furious & it's now shown with still pics to replace some of the cut material...but it's just such a shame!!!
