Known as 'The Ghost Theatre' sequence from 'Babes on Broadway', Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney pay tribute to some stage legends.
Historically, this film & the sequence itself contains fascinating facts.
It features the screen debut of Margaret O' Brien & Donna Reed.
Vincente Minnelli directed the sequence.
The theatre legends honored in this segment have thier own stories. I've included a brief synopsis, but encourage you to research each of them.
Judy turned 19 while working on this film. Some of my favorite photos of her are from the La Marseillaise segment, unusual in style with a beautifully crafted costume.
At the end, I decided to display photos of each of the theatre legends.

Mickey Rooney: Cyrano de Bergerac.
Savinien de Cyrano de Bergerac March 6, 1619 -- July 28, 1655) was a French dramatist and duellist who is now best remembered for the many works of fiction which have been woven around his life story.
Judy Garland: Fay Templeton singing 'Mary's A Grand Old Name'.
Fay Templeton (December 25, 1865 -- October 3, 1939) was an American stage actress.
Mickey Rooney: Sir Harry Lauder singing 'She Is Ma Daisy'.
Sir Henry Lauder (August 4, 1870 -- February 26, 1950) known professionally as Harry Lauder, was a Scottish entertainer, described by Sir Winston Churchill as "Scotland's greatest ever ambassador!"
Judy Garland: Blanche Ring singing 'I've Got Rings On My Fingers'.
Blanche Ring (April 24, 1871 -- January 13, 1961) was an American singer and actress in Broadway theatre productions, musicals, and Hollywood motion pictures.
Judy Garland: Sarah Bernhardt 'La Marseillaise' spoken by Judy Garland.
Sarah Bernhardt (circa October 23, 1844 -- March 26, 1923) was a French stage and early film actress, and has been referred to as "the most famous actress the world has ever known".
Judy Garland & Mickey Rooney: Yankee Doodle Boy.

It was great to see Judy do Sarah Bernhardt!! In the Barkeleys of Broadway, which Ginger Rogers did in Judy's place, there's a scene where Ginger does a little vignette as Sarah Bernhardt and she BUTCHERS the French accent. She was awful. But Judy does this brilliantly. Thank you for posting it.
