JUDY GARLAND The End Of Her Journey

Музыка

The coroners report on Judy Garland, as well as film footage of her wake and funeral. The footage of Judy's fans lining up and walking into the funeral home to view Judy is a wonderful testament to the diversity of her audience.

Even after all these years, this footage is very moving. So many people were touched by Judy's magic. Her true spirit touched everyone who saw her in films, television, and live concerts. Her soul was available to everyone on her records. More than 20,000 people cared enough about her to pay their respects. All different ages, races, ethnicities...each had solemn faces and genuine tears. Her fans loved her, appreciated her, and wanted to protect her. Her fans, then and now, still appreciate the gifts she shared with the world...and wish we could have somehow helped her.

So well put. She was absolutely amazing. I was born a little over a month of her passing on August of 1969 and she touched my soul with her incredible voice. I think everyone absolutely fell in love with Judy Garland from her most incredible role in the Wuzard of Oz. I remember looking So forward every year when it would be shown on television once a year and my family and me would all sit around the television set and watch along in amazement at how incredible she was and the whole movie was. I think it's literally the Greatest movie ever made and that's how we all fell in love with Judy Garland. No matter how many times I've seen that picture I still cry when she says goodbye to all her friends when she is about to leave Oz and no matter how many times it's copied. Nothing will ever come close to the original. It's truly a Masterpiece. Thank you for your wonderful words. It really touched me. ❤

I was just shy of my 9th birthday, (which is today, as it happens), and distinctly recall the atmosphere at home. Prior to this tragic event I don't recall my father ever shedding a tear, but there he was, sat in his armchair with a tear rolling down his cheek! My mother could cry at anything but seeing my dad show emotion was almost a revelation. I'm pleased that we Brits so took her to our hearts and that in some small way we gave her even a shred of happiness in her final months here. We toss the word 'star' about these days without any thought as to its meaning. Youtbube 'stars', influencers', reality TV 'stars', jeez what a mockery! Miss Garland, she WAS a Star, still is even 50 years after her death. I very much doubt that in 50 years any of today's so called stars will be remembered. James Mason's eulogy said it all. Sleep in eternal peace, Judy.

Judy Garland is fascinating to multiple generations. That’s what makes her the greatest entertainer of all-time. I am 59, so I was just 7 years old when she passed. However, my mother snd grandmother introduced me to who Judy Garland was. Now my own children, who are in their 20s are fascinated with her talent, especially after watching The Wizard of Oz. That’s 3 generations so far.

January 2nd 2001 when I visited London, I went to see The house Judy died in 4 Cadogan lane. it was strange because I stood out front and it was eerie because it almost felt like Judy could walk out of the mews cottage. I can’t really explain it but I felt her presence and I’m not into the paranormal. I’m glad that I got to see the last place she lived. In 1997 I went to Grand Rapids Minnesota for the Judy festival and saw the house she was born in and met and had drinks with Sid luft and met Joey and Lorna luft as well. Sid Luft was very approachable and I bought him a drink and for hours in the Sawmill inn, we drank and hung out with Sid! He told some amazing stories of Judy and how electrifying she was.. I will cherish those memories for the rest of my life!

I'm recalling that day when I was at my friend's home about to go in his the swimming pool. I noticed his mom crying and I was curious why? She explained that Judy Garland had died and I was only 10 but I certainly knew how awesome she was. I felt a bolt of fear and sadness go through me. That song she was singing at the videos end is uncanny and hard to get through. I am not going to say rest in peace because I am a realist and agnostic. She is dead and gone yet she suffers and feels nothing anymore. In some awful way that is comforting but no.....I would want her to have had a long life and find her peace as I want all loving people to realize. Never ever will she be forgotten...far far from it😞🌹

@@melisagalvalizi6982 Fondness for Judy often went beyond her artistry. For many, it very much also included the struggles she had in life and the fact she kept on going. The press at the time was extremely cruel and seemed to want to affect how people felt about her, because alcohol and drug addiction was widely viewed as a problem of character, rather than a disease, so people could be very judgmental. A one-time assistant of hers saw all of the people standing outside to pay their respects and made the comment that she wondered if they knew the “horrible” things Judy had done if they would still have that same level of affection for her. My answer: You bet they would.

Judy Garland died on my 5th birthday, June 22nd, 1969. The year before, 1968, I remember sitting in front of the TV when both MLK Jr and RFK's assassinations and deaths were announced. Death frightened me. I hated hearing adult family members talk about it and see them cry. My mother tried to explain those deaths in terms associated with gun violence, without frightening me. I had a cap pistol, but never thought in terms of real death from a gun. Later that year, my grandfather died from a heart attack. His was my first personal experience with death. I'd never seen a person in a casket or been to a funeral home before his death. My family was gathered for my birthday party. I remember asking to go with my Aunt BeBe and first cousin Karla to get more ice. My aunt was an entertainment fan. Look, Life, TV Guide. Stacks of mags that covered Hollywood. She knew who was married, dating, divorced, working, appearing on talk shows etc. Soap stars included. She was also an excellent elementary school music teacher. That day, while we were in my aunts car, my first cousin asked my aunt about Judy Garland's death. I was riding in the back seat of her Chrysler and I remember being afraid and pressing my back into the seat of the car....until my aunt simply said that Judy's heart probably gave out like my grandfather's. I remember relaxing and being sad that someone died, but understanding that an old adults heart could stop like my grandfather's did. She may have stretched the truth, but it helped to remove the fright of hearing someone died from my head. Overall I think Aunt BeBe got it right.

Dear Mr Stephens,I am HAPPY to see that some of these 1969 news stories about Judy's death and funeral have been posted by you (& perhaps by others?) now that it is out there for other Judy fans to watch. I am the Garland collector of 38 years who 1st found these 1969 b&w and color news shows when I was FINALLY ABLE to find them all from a rare film archive facility back in 2006 which at the time I purchased all that they had onto a VHS tape they made for me once their rather expensive payment from me was received. I was also lucky enough to know someone around the same time who worked in the U.K. at BBC and they had access to all of the old BBC film archives and this is how I obtained the color footage shot in front of Judy & Mickey Deans London flat on the very morning (June 22ns, 1969) not very long after Deans found Judy dead. My friend at BBC also sent me additional COLOR footage with audio that was shot earlier in the year 2 different times that the media caught Judy and Deans on film..I myself especially like my additional 1969 COLOR footage which was also added to my BBC VHS tape which is probably also posted on You Tube and it shows Judy and Deans in the back seat of their waiting car and there is a very NICE clear close-up of Judy (since the camera that shot this footage was inches away from her window which she had half rolled down and you can hear and see fans saying hello etc... and Judy (all smiles) replies back..."THANK YOU DARLING" as the car pulls away. Also the b&w interview with Judy and Deans at their wedding reception party has a bit more extended footage of the interview that was not on my old copy of it which I found years ago in very grainy quality, so I HOPE that this very CLEAR extended version IS posted on You tube somewhere for all to see. I think that this may have been their very last interview that was filmed but I may be wrong, but it is truly a joy to watch...Judy is so happy and Deans is also asked several questions in it. I was just happy that this much clearer extended 1969 interview was also added to my 2005 VHS tape by my friend who once worked at BBC. There is also some nice COLOR clips, also shot at the wedding reception party that shows judy with Deans, Johnny R. & others sitting around having a good ol time LOL. I have not watched these in several years now so that archive place where all of the 1969 news stories announcing her passing, and a segment announcing what the London coroners office determined killed Judy as well as another brief segment which tells when Judy's body would be flown back to NYC from London.I also was lucky enough around 2006 to have come in contact with the person who actually shot the COLOR concert footage of Judy on stage while in Melbourne in 1964. As of 2006, I had never come across any Judy fans that had this rare footage in their collections and so the person who said that they shot this color footage using their 8mm home movie camera, they mailed me the actual 8mm film which was very clear and the colors had not faded and they allowed me to send it away where I had it transferred to a VHS tape at the time. I have since seen this same footage on You Tube only not nearly as clear as my master copy is which came directly from that concert home movie film!Recently I was contacted by the same film archive place where I purchased all of those b&w news shows from CBS, ABC, & NBC announcing Judy's death and also the color & b&w footage showing the crowds lined up to pay their last respects to Judy at the Frank E Campbell funeral home and of course the shots of some of the famous people arriving for judy's private funeral services, so I am THRILLED to know that there are even more of these 1969 news stories available to me and they sent me a complete list of these additional news broadcast they have found, and also on the list is b&w footage which shows the hearse carrying Judy's body as it arrives and enters the entrance to Ferncliff and in the description it also reads that several fans were there waiting for the hearse to arrive which should be interesting to see also. They also told me that they recently discovered b&w footage from the late 1950's which says that it shows Judy standing between 2 men & the 3 of them are talking among one another and they told me that the original news-reel film can only reads (Judy Garland in court IRS problems) but with no audio yet still rare Garland footage or at least I have never seen this before and I purchased my very 1st VCR waaaaay back in 1979 and over the years I have bought and traded A LOT of Judy footage which I can NOT WAIT TO OWN it all because it is always fun to see footage of Judy that you have never seen anywhere before. I am not saying that these recent finds by the archive place are not already posted on You Tube as they very well may be, but I have tried to see if I could find any or all of their recent finds that they contacted me about to see if any or perhaps all of it are on You Tube somewhere before I pay for this footage to be put on a DVD when I am ready to order it but I have had no luck finding this additional footage anywhere on You Tube as of yet?

I also meant to say that according to this NEW list I received a couple or months ago from the secret archive place where I 1st found those b&w 1969 news broadcast about Judy's death, and the COLOR BBC brief press conference that a friend who worked at BBC in London in 2006, and the very clear longer version of the interview with Judy and Deans at their wedding reception party and so on...I also meant to say that according to this additional Judy footage they have recently offered me for sale, on the complete list of this new material, their list also says that they have also found some footage of a young Judy Garland at a mid to late 1930's ST. PATRICKS DAY parade in NYC but this new list only gives the running time of it and the other footage they have found for me and I have searched and searched trying to find ANY information about Judy in NYC from the 1930's either in or just attending the cities St Patrick's Day Parade but I have not had any luck as of yet so IF anyone has information and or the year that this footage was shot please advise and if you happen to know if Judy was in the parade of just looking-on I would appreciate ANY information about this event, but just the same I WILL be buying this footage along with ALL of the other vintage footage the archive place has found and are offering me a DVD of it all & for a hefty price for all of it just like the high amount that I paid for the ABC, CBS, NBC news broadcast announcing her death the day and the other material that I 1st found and bought from them because when it comes to rare footage of Judy especially any that has been buried in some archive place for years and Now if I OR SOMEONE could find the 2 lost OR missing Kiddie short films that the 3 Gumm sisters also appeared in...I just can not imagine every single print of these short films all being lost especially when Sooooooooo many other Vitaphone / short films still survive from the same time period that these 2 missing films were also made which you can view most of them on You Tube...This also makes me wonder what ever became of Judy's very LAST TV appearance filmed in the UK SUNDAY NIGHT AT THE PALLADIUM and then there are the 2 lost or missing or whatever last 2 American TV appearances from Dec. 1968 which of course were her 2 Merv Griffin shows? IF all of us who love watching Judy, then PERHAPS 1 or ALL of these shows etc will eventually surface for us to see and enjoy!!!!! Well, I just wanted to mention the 1930's footage of Judy in OR attending the NYC St. Patricks day parade that I have also located and will own by the end of this summer.

50th years have now passed since that sad day you left us Judy and yet you remain the greatest entertainer in history. All great entertainers connect with there audience through an ability to convey the joys and sorrows of life.its ups and downs.as a result love forms between each. No one has ever connected or conyeyd as well as you and nobody ever will. Because nobody lived life like you did experincing all it's highs and lows. your talents as singer actress dancer and comideinne where the most heaven sent of all heaven sent gifts . Thus you where able to touch people's hearts more strongly than anyone else. You died just a little over a year before I was born. But through your films and songs I feel I know you. You where a warm kind funny sensitive human being. You experienced many heartaches in your sadly short life and it seems to me that like Dorothy in the wizard of oz you where always trying to find your way home a place where you could find your hearts desire love. Good night God bless rest in peace. You will be loved and remembered forever. Your home now Judy your home. From Michael from Yorkshire and proud of it.

Liza is a phony, miserable drunk who never even checked on her mother for almost a year before she died. Judy needed a place to stay and Liza told her bellman NOT to allow her up. Frank Sinatra paid all funeral expenses. Liza is trash and can go to hell!

Dead Liza was an ADULT at this point we’re talking about. And married. Judy Garland busted her ass to pay for her kids schooling, clothes, etc. Liza went to very expensive schools and as the parent gets older, the children out of respect should check on them, NOT lock them out of their homesand lives! You’re forgetting Judy was a drug addict in an error when there was NO Betty Ford Clinics or Rehabs. Judy had NO ONE to guide her in the right direction. She was the best mother she could be under the circumstances. Maybe if the men in her life didn’t squeeze every nickel out of her she wouldn’t have had to work herself to death and could have enjoyed her children more. If you’re NOT a Garland fan, then why post here?????
