Judy Dench-Send in the clowns.divx

Ойын-сауық

In my mind, Judy Dench performs the very best version of "Send in the Clowns".

OMG. So here I was searching the web for sheet music to play this song on the piano, and came across this... And now I'm stuck on this... Now THIS is how you tell a story with song and music... Most beautiful rendition I've ever heard... Dame Judy... Love her in everything... I'm bawling my eyes out... Good night

I *love* Judi Dench's voice. Have you heard her singing as Sally Bowles on the Cabaret soundtrack from 1968? kzread.info/dash/bejne/gZyr2KaSeMi-Z7g.html I love her voice there, it's kind of hoarse. Not what you typically hear.

As an actor, one must intrinsically feel the imaginary wall between the stage and the audience, and never ever cross it otherwise the wall breaks and you have the realness of reality instead of the performance. At the end, when the audience was applauding and cheering, Judi was feeling all of what she had held back so as not to break that fourth wall. The alchemy of artistry. The genius that is Judi Dench.

this was a segment of a live performance called Hey Mr Producer: The Musical World of Cameron Mackintosh -- Judi Dench and David Kernan -- a 1998 concert given at the Lyceum Theatre, London, in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh. It was a charity gala in aid of the Royal National Institute for the Blind and the Combined Theatrical Charities. Originally was only available on non-US VHS (which I promptly had converted) -- but I see it's now available on several pricey imported DVDs. and worth every penny for the performers: Bernadette Peters, Ellen Greene (Little Shop of Horrors), John Barryman, Millicent Martin, Lea Salongo, Jonathan Pryce, ALW/Sondheim birthday duet, Tom Lehrer, Maria Friedman, Elaine Paige, and introduction by Julie Andrews.

@@gareththomas6714 I am a fellow debunker of many things. But JD doesn't just _sing_ this song, she _acts_ it - that's what she _does_ . You don't listen to it for her voice, you watch and listen for her acting. She has never AFAIK claimed to be a singer. (I think Sondheim liked one of her performances of this, mind.) As the original Sally Bowles, she suited the original novel/play better: Sally Bowles is not _supposed_ to be good - she's singing in a tawdry cabaret in pre-war Berlin. (Liza is of course great and made one of the great landmarks of musical film; it doesn't matter that she's so good, as it's a musical, not the original play.)
