Judo Legends: Toshihiko Koga Tribute Highlights 1967 - 2021 (古賀 稔彦 1967 - 2021)

Спорт

Toshihiko Koga was a Japanese judoka who competed in the -71 kg and -78 kg divisions, he was widely considered as one of the best judokas of all time. T. Koga is Olympic champion and silver medalist. He was also 3-times World Champion. T. Koga is famous for his explosive attacking judo and extreme level of technical skills, besides that he was an innovator that developed his unique style of Judo. His favorite techniques was Ippon Seoi Nage (to this day he is considered the greatest master of this technique), he is also on of the first judokas to use one handed Sode Tsurikomi Goshi. Unfortunately he died of kidney cancer at a young age of 53. Toshihiko Koga was inspiration to countless judokas all over the world, he will be gravely missed. Rest in peace legend.

So sad. Such a trail blazer. And then over-looked by his own national judo federation when his competition career ended. They had the opportunity to learn so much. It seems the new wind has blown past. Hopefully someone, somewhere, will re-examine his lessons and take them on board. Meanwhile for mortals like me- what a fighter! Wow! From another planet!!! May his family have all our love- More people saw him than you think :) Fight smart. The fight never ends....... :)

Very saddened by this, one of the greatest Judo competitors ever, tremendous Seoinage threw the very best opponents in the blink of an eye. 53 is too young - such a great champion! I told my students for decades: "Koga is the one to watch in competition, you will always learn something new!" He went on to become a great national coach for Japan as well. We judoka have just lost one of our very best.
