Legends of Judo: Japan (柔道の伝説)

Спорт

Japanese judokas are the leading force in Judo since it's inception. Japan has racked well over 3000 medals in major international competitions and throughout the years produced many legendary judokas. In this video I run trough the best and most accomplished competitive judokas from the Land of the Rising Sun. Take note that some legends have no footage or photos left of them, the might have been left out of the list.

Still this story...how can you compare modern judokas who play in a highly competitive ìnternational stage with a judoka who fought in times when judo waa not very well known outside of Japan? Kimura is idolized because he won Helio Gracie...well, I suspect Gracie was not an élite judoka, just one of many.

Why don't you include Masahiko Kimura? Considered member of the hall of fame of the best judokas that have existed. Professional judoka at the age of 20, he was champion of the Japanese judo open and maintained his title for 13 years, suffering only one defeat in that period.

I've been a fan of Anno for so long She's a nice person and good at both tachiwaza and newaza in addition, her kumikata was very ingenious just like Trstenjak On the other hand,I don't like Tawara(slang term for Tani) and Matsumoto, both from Teikyo University Matsumoto's newaza was superb, particularly Katasankaku, huizinga roll and okurierijime But I couldn't stand her very histrionic facial expressions After her retirement, she admitted that she didn't like Judo 'Cuz she did Judo as part of education IJF say Tawara is the best female judoka ever I suppose no one could deny it But as you might not know, she's been unpopular for years on the Internet She was chosen as the most disliked woman of the year in 2010 Because of her very ugly face compared to famous Judo anime YAWARA's heroine, chutzpah and greedy attitudes, overly self-consciousness remarks, controversial selections for the 2007 Worlds and the 2008 Olympics, political commitment, etc She couldn't recieve the people's honor award though she made such a great achievement It is widely believed that because her dad and paternal half-brother were Gangsters She won the first international tournament at her local Fukuoka when she was only 15 But her dad wasn't there 'Cuz he was in prison for insurance scam back then Unlike Tawara's undesirable dad,Matsumoto's dad is a decent person He was a boxer and then became a cook in addition,Tawara's two sons practice Ice hockey instead of Judo

Ono and Ebinuma are still competing, Takimoto is great, but the main criteria for this list was competition achievements and he doesn't have the same profile as some of the judokas on the list. The criminal record in Uchishiba's profile makes it hard to call him a legend (tough who knows he might have been wrongly accused). Overall there are a lot of legendary judokas I didn't put in this list, but just because I couldn't put them in this video doesn't mean they are not legends.
