    Judo allows you to hit the opponent with the earth, Judokas are basically earth benders.

    An underappreciated factor is strength and physical education. Judo puts a big emphasis on physical education and developing strength and coordination. In BJJ as far as I know go straight into learning techniques. Grandmaster Jesse from Mexican Martial Arts actually pointed out this can be an advantage because no one will suspect you do martial arts because you look like a regular unathletic person lol.

    Hahaha, so true, you gotta be strong and coordinated if you wanna be any good at Judo, with Bjj you get away with to to a certain degree. And yup , Grand master Jesse knows brother. Im a fan of his content.

    Going to my first judo dojo this evening. I’ve been wanting to begin martial arts for self defense and exercise benefits and had it narrowed down to bjj and judo. I decided on judo a couple days ago. But, they are also teach bjj should I decide to cross train. 53 y/o male.

    Cons: Lack of standup defense, lack of takedown offense and defense, ground strikes, knives, multiple attackers, dogs, mud puddles, snow embankments, certain ant hills, yucky floors...

    BJJ and Judo can be sport and they can be self defense just as all martial arts can be. It is very simple and it boils down to the pads / padding / matting. If the pads etc are protecting you... It's a sport. If the pads etc are protecting the opponent... It's self defense. If you're regularly practicing techniques that would get you hurt if it were not for the mats, pads, etc... Then you're engaging in a sport. If you're practicing diligently and only applying techniques that the mats, padding, etc, do not apply to you but are solely there to protect the opponent... Then you're engaging in self defense training. In moments of high stress; like an altercation, you will do or not do what you have trained to do.

    I've just recently got back to judo. I think it's much better for self defense than BJJ , without a doubt! But I wanted to ask, is there a guillotine choke in judo stand up or newaza ground work? I think I saw it once in a montage video clip. A guillotine choke is a must for self defense

    You can do guillotine in ne waza but I'm not sure about the tachi waza

    Hmmmm… thats a great question, I wouldn’t be surprise if there is such a technique in Judo but i think it might be illegal in competition so thats why there we don’t focus on it. I’ll have ti check.

    Do you think the lack of Gi in the street would be a problem for judo? And if so, would you grab the other person's clothing or just do some other things

    I heard that the (most fights go to the ground) stat is a law enforcement state where the goal is to get the perp into handcuffs. If true wouldn't that be a little different scenario then 2 civilians going at it?

  • @OGFITNESS

    I read up on it quickly, and yup, I think your right, Rorion Gracie used that stat (cherry picked it really, even though its has only a thing for law enforcement) Ill have to make a video on it, and get thebcommunity to chime in.

    What minimum belt level do you recommend for BJJ and Judo to be proficient and confident for self defense?

    For me personally it was when i got to brown in Judo, and Purple in bjj, i was told i was going to get my purple and it reset because i changed clubs. So im still blue. But for most peeps, id say blue in bjj, and blue in Judo. Great question brother, ill make a vid on this.

    @@OGFITNESS Thank you for your response! On a side note, I have heard that a black belt in judo is equivalent to a blue belt in BJJ... if this is true and one is to be cross training both, should a Judo black belt start at white belt or are they already blue?

  • @OGFITNESS

    @OGFITNESS

    7 ай бұрын

    @@gabegaming3165 i heard that too but it really depends on the Judo club, some focus as much ground as standing, and then it depends on the Judoka if they like it or not. At the national and international levels though, those guys would crush most blue, purple, brown, even black on the ground. And lots of judoka started training in bjj as well, they pick it up quite easily.

    Is judo easier to learn then bjj I see that judo just has like 2-3 steps for a throw and bjj has like 10+ steps put your leg here arm under head twist body knee to head etc…

  • @nerdzik_0746

    @nerdzik_0746

    Maybe for judo kata that's the case but when you fight it becomes much harder to execute those steps

  • @OGFITNESS

    @OGFITNESS

    Judo is harder to learn, just as many steps but now you have to keep your balance on one or two feet. Bjj is a joke complexity wise compared to Judo.
