He Is practically drunk with power in this scene and it's chill inducing. When that wicked smirk comes across his face it means he's sharpening his knives and someone is about to be humbled. I've never seen such a strong depicrion of pure power before Pius XIII. A true image of a god king expertly delivered.

No matter the intent the writers of this had for what would be perceived by most viewers as wrong, what with the state of the world right now, the more traditional Catholics, the Catholics who have not forgotten the pre-Vatcan II days, before the Disney channel-esque Novus Ordo and the versus populum, before all the current scandals with the pedophiles, before... I have little sympathy for them. The Pope is their leader and they rebelled against him, made absurd demands of him, and made threats they weren't able to keep. Loyalty is one of the greatest virtues a person can possess, and at the first sign of trouble they tried to betray him.

@@mikeparker7631 no, the diff between Catholics and Protestants is that the Church and it's Body recognizes that they do not have authority to decide who is Peter or not, they do not make themselves pope. You may disagree, protest, correct, or even suffer under a bad pope, but you don't decide when he is a pope or not. Because if it was as fickle as that, then Jesus never had the authority to begin with. Study up history, we've had a lot of bad Popes. Even if Pope Francis is the worst of the bunch, it doesn't make him an antipope Bec you decide it. Why don't you check Taylor Marshall's videos discussing if Francis is the antipope or not. A president doesn't cease to become the president, just because he is a bad president, same with Kings and their vicars which the pope certainly is. Just watch Aladdin or LOTR-T2T to see a bad vicar or steward.

I read that in Nov 2018 that filming on The NEW Pope began. Both Jude and John Malkovich were in papal white costumes.....I hope Malkovich is just a dream sequence * fingers crossed

@@LairNobleza its just that sovereignty is important. Yes, Jesus wants us to be humble and servants to humanity, but Jesus never once denied his supreme authority. Pope Francis denies it all the time, and does nothing but weaken the Catholic identity. I want a pope that embraces his office and doesn't pander to false religions and is authoritative and uncompromising
