For me is The Hellion/Electric Eye, it just cant get any better than this. The majestic Hellion instrumental intro that leads into Electric Eye which have one of the best riffs i have ever heard of and the whole song is amazing oh and i must not forget about that face melting solo ! Glenn Tipton is the master🤘🤘

I don't mind slow songs being openers so long as it's a good tune. Out in the Cold has always been my personal favourite from Turbo and to make it qualify for this list I'm going to include live albums and therefore Priest... Live. 1. Painkiller 2. Ram It Down 3. Freewheel Burning 4. The Hellion 5. Delivering the Goods 6. Victim of Changes 7. Out in the Cold 8. Judas Rising 9. Heading out to the Highway 10. Sinner

My mix up but that's how I like/need to play them. Anyway always loved Hellion until I heard a very similar track by Y & T produced by Max Norman - sorry Tom!!

The song thst got me into priest as my dad picked me up from primary school one day and he'd just put British steel in the car so the first thing i heard was that opening riff and i was hooked. Even with the recording i think most Priest fans would consider Hellion into Electric Eye to be the Greatest opener. As for the Turbo lp, for me Reckless is by far the Greatest track (my favourite J.P track) and has still never been played live, apparently it was considered for the last tour but didn't sit well in the setlist. Maybe KK'S Priest will do it.. I've only been waiting 37yrs 😂 🤘

Judas Priest I am only very limited in my experience with, but Painkiller has got to be it for me. Their song Exciter probably spawned Canadian speed metal band, Exciter! Megadeth "Holy Wars" has got to be the absolute best thrash opener though.

@@PossessedByMetal666 oh wow I'd love to know the reasoning for excluding Megadeth's greatest song as thrash! It's a technical thrash masterpiece to me. It's got the speed, it's got the aggression, it's got the chops!

@ExplosiveAction hehe, there's probably a whole video in this subject! I don't see Megadeth as a thrash band at all, as much as ive always loved em! For me thrash is defined by speed - the use of that very specific thrash beat. Megadeth said it right, I think, when they described themselves as a state of the art SPEED metal band. 😊

@@PossessedByMetal666 Especially coming after the lame duck that was Ram It Down... honestly as much as I love those other songs, they all fall short in my opinion. Freewheel Burning always sounded a bit throwaway compared to the rest of Defenders, and while Electric Eye is cool it is a bit 'polite'. Tipton is on fire on Painkiller as well, incredible solos, super memorable and they've just never captured that deranged metalness again, even the rest of the Painkiller album seems 'restrained' in comparison. I used to always say that 'Hallowed be they Name' was the greatest metal song, but I find it hard to argue against Painkiller.

As a statement of intent, I really like Delivering the Goods and am sad it didn't make it to your list. :( Same with Judas Rising. I guess it's slow lead-in doesn't have the smashing attack of a lot of the opening tracks in your list but it really builds to a monolithic track. So... which way do you like your Sad Wings? Opening with Victim of Changes or... Prelude/Tyrant? ;) I'm about to say something completely sacrilegious... I'm not a big fan of the British Steel album. I like Rapid Fire, it's a great, fun song and one of the better ones on the album... but I'm just not a fan of Dave Holland's robotic drumming and their combined dumbed-down approach to the writing on the album in general. Compared to most of the other opening tracks, it's a bit... forgettable? The riff doesn't spring to mind immediately for me like the others. But that's probably just me... As for Painkiller, I love it's deliberate OTT excesses. I love the ending and the punishing length of it! It's an amazing song that pushed their limits as a band to smash through them, sadly never to soar to those heights of combined energy/passion/writing/playing/production/cohesive focus again. (Kind of like Iron Maiden's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son album, Manowar's The Triumph of Steel album, arguably Ozzy's No More Tears album, and even more arguably Dio's Strange Highways. Everything after had a feeling of "we wore ourselves out on that last one". Don't get me wrong, there were good songs put out by all those bands after, but never the same intensity for an entire album as those.)

I think Panic Attack is a great JP song but wanna hear more before judging the record any further . FirePower was solid but not what I wanted which is a proper follow up to Painkiller which we never got but it's never to late . Robs Vocals at 72 have just shattered expectations he's actual taking the spot of RJD as the Greatest Metal Vocalist of all time sorry my opinion don't shoot , love me some RJD but Rob is defying time which has to be recognized !! They are preview songs from forthcoming album yes? I don't want to hear 4 songs from a forthcoming album 3 months before release on a 10 song album!!! Where is the element of suprise and anticipation for the album if you have heard half the album stupid isn't it. I am a physical product guy, I don't do streaming Spotify etc playlist etc. I take cd/vinyl and play it from start to finish. Would you play a Beethoven symphony or a Mozart opera etc and stop after the first movement or act doesn't make sense. This subject really riles me. Have a fantastic day mate. Rant over lol
