A customer brought me a joycon with the R button switch ripped completely off! I restored the connection with some careful scraping/soldering.

Hey there, thank you for the video. I did the same repair today (with all ripped off pads). This was my first joycon repair and am so happy, that I succeeded. What really concerns me is that this button is held by two tiny solder points. The R and L button on Xbox Controllers have legs, which go through the board and are soldered on the backside to keep the buttons in place safely. Nintendo should have adapted this kind of solution.
great video! you explained what you were doing pretty clearly and now (once my button arrives) Im ready to fix mine!
My R button was failing but didnt mind so much, i bought new shells and while changing this piece drop off :[ and now that i see your video mine is the same, but i dont have no soldering skills or even equipment, i hope some thecnician can fix mine. Great video very cool to see the inside of the joycon.

Hi Victor, I do this repair for $15 provided you still have the original button switch. You can reach me using the contact info in the description if you would like to set something up! Cheers and happy 4th.

@@MitchCairns I would but im in Peru xD
My kids have had exactly this issue a few times each! Thanks for the upload. It looked too small to solder, but routing the wire to other parts of the board looks achievable! Thanks
Thanks a lot, you really saved me, I struggle for a long time while doing it, but in the end, I was able to do it !
I fixed it, thanks!
What’s the name of the two wires that you soldered after placing the button?
lol i thought I can do it before watching your vid 😄😄😄😄
i know you likely know by now but small tip, always add a little decent solder to the ground planes before wicking, it mixes with the rohs lead free stuff and makes life easier, also little hot air (proper hot air not a heat gun lol) to assist is always helpful . Nice video, maybe i should do a few also :)

yes, please, could you? I want to solder the shoulder button on a Nintendo DS Lite.
Well I think I might not be able to fix this then. Well as a last ditch effort I’ll just put a ton of flux and just yolo it and hope that it somehow connects to something
Hi Mitch... ive changed the handers, but i see that the R button was cracked... so i take it to weld it, but al the buttons on this joycon wont work... i thought it is because the man who i take it, dont bridge the last anchors... this weld would fix it?
Can you share a link for the microscope you use?
The control button you’re replacing here. It looks identical to the one used in the switch lite. Is that the case? I’m about to order some to replace in my lite but I’m slightly worried about ordering the wrong thing as there really isn’t much info or videos out there specifically talking about these “tactile micro buttons”. I’m pretty sure I’m good but it would be nice if anyone knows for sure
Hi I know this video is already been 2 years but i Just want to ask what is the size of this? Im planning to order one cause my tactile button for my switchlite broke.
I did a number on mine and melted off the test point pad for the middle pin. Any idea if i I can tap in elsewhere? The original trace is microscopic with how little is left, it just won't tin
What size wire is that? Is there a specific kind for it?
What electrical wire did you use to connect the pads? What gauge and all? Thanks!

0.1mm enameled copper wire 👍
Do you think this fix is possible if the original button component also broke? Like with a replacement part that isn't exactly like the original one?

The dimensions of the replacement part need to be the same otherwise you'll have issues with fit
Curious how much this repair cost vs a new controller. They seem pretty cheap. Hope you are getting fairly complicated for your skills and time. I’m doing a similar repair on my controller my nephew was a little too rough with lol

Hi Kent, In this case I think I charged around $20 for this particular repair (But I also charged additional for swapping out the controller shell). A lot of what I do is based on time! Good luck with your own repair!

doing this yourself will land you at about $5, assuming you have an iron
What wires are u using?
Hey what type of wire did you use for this? Can I get a link. I'm having the same exact problem with a sent in controller

I use the wire from my solder wick

I've used a wire from a dead usb cable. Any thin wire will do it
What temperature are you using on the solderiron?

I did exactly as the video and my joycon will not turn on. System accepts it as connected while charging though
Would you be able to fix my sons nintendo 2DS xl shoulder button? I opened it to replace the screen and accidentally broke the button because one of the tiny screws didn’t come off due to a bad screw driver Amazon sent me smh so Unfortunately I still tried opening it and broke the button
