    one question: there are 3 lines to the one r Button. 3 lines with each having a tin connection. Why is that? Would it still work with all the points soldered together? Im asking because 1. my tin wire is too big, i would hav to order a thinner one. 2. i dont have a microscope( but my main problem is the wire, i guess)

    I opened up a left joy con and the shoulder button was connected very differently than in the video. Instead of being directly soldered to the PCB, it is attached using a ribbon cable. Do you know if it's because of a redesign or are the right and left joy cons designed differently?

    Sir at 6:20 did u applied a little bit of solder on the tip of your soldering iron, and covered the tiny wire with the solder? So u didn’t actually melt the wire, it just used to conduct electricity? Sorry for the silly question I’m new to soldering and I’m trying to fix my joy con as well

    Dude, gotta give you props for that repair. I had a horrible time trying to clean what was left of my boy's traces on his after he accidentally dropped it right on that corner and the impact not only blew the button casing off but ripped all three contacts completely off. I also don't have that incredible setup with the microscope. If you don't mind sharing, what kind of microscope set up do you use and what temp was your soldering iron running? I ran mine a little too hot and scorched the board slightly but didn't do permanent damage.

    Now I'm looking at possible repairs for the buttons on the left con that stopped working. Not sure if they'll be repairable since they're physically past of the main circuit board. Wouldn't know where to start with test points without the inside tech specs to troubleshoot. I'm leaning towards a damaged ic and probably gone just order a replacement board and save time and frustration lol

    Do you mind I ask cause I’ve not soldered before, I saw the metal points were not touching so it was not sending feedback to the board from what I understand. You disconnected it fully by desoldering it with your machine first, then afterwards you soldered it together again, but what was those additional long metal looking things that you used to solder the r button to the board. You said in one of your comments it’s wire but like what wire?

  • @ToltecMerc

    @ToltecMerc

    4 жыл бұрын

    It was, I believe, a single strand of wire from a multi-strand wire. Wire is usually either one solid piece of copper like CAT5E cable, or stranded which means it's made of multiple thinner pieces of wire shaped together to form a bundle. This makes it flexible.

    I tried doing this without any soldering experience since I wanted to try to fix it after buying a brand new one to replace it but I’m having a hard time making the solder stick into the joy con board when I get to the part at 6:16. The solder just sticks on to the soldering iron as a little ball without staying on the green board. Am I missing something? Also, when soldering the 3 pins the solder doesn’t have to touch each other? Thanks in advance!

    Soldering is more about experience than equipment. To the people (mostly kids to be fair) here asking about solder, solder station, type of wire and basic stuff like that: do yourself a favor and pay someone to fix it for you. If you have to make basic questions like this you won't be able to do this solder and you'll mess up your board even more (that assuming you get to the motherboard without breaking a ribbon cable while opening, which most people that don't have experience opening joycons will break)

    @l L you can't buy soldering experience tho. First time soldering has 100% chance of messing up something, be it the board or the pads. In the end of the day it'll be cheaper to just pay someone to fix it. And I'm being very generous here, most people will probably break a ribbon cable or something else before they even reach the motherboard to do the actual soldering.

    It's not a simple fix at all. There are multiple tiny ribbon cables that can be ripped easily and soldering the switch back is definitely not for a beginner. I never intended this video to be a "how to". It was just another one of my repair videos where I show what I do.

    My R button on the right JOY-con started started losing connection i know why it's from holding it down too hard in MH to run, i was able to fix it so it's good now. You have to be somewhat gentle with these, you can play smash with them as i have, a good joycon set can take a beating but you still have to be careful and not mash the buttons like a noob Tekken player, use you head to control your fingers not to hit the controller, they are not dual shocks 🤣🤣
