@@chrisc9200 Nobody is claiming that mimicking or impersonating a legendary singer is a “cake walk” but yourself. He is a hired gun to mimic the best. He did not contribute to the band in anyway that would come close to Perry’s own contributions to the band during his tenure. He needs to move on and create his own stamp. Otherwise, he will be forgotten in a very short time. If you had seen both live you then could compare the different, but obviously you haven’t, except on video, which is not the same. @@minavamp2811 I was referring to when Steve Perry was at his peak obviously. Of course Arnel has lasted longer. A different time and Arnel doesn't push himself the way Steve always did back in the 80's. There was too much money on the line back then and no way around it. Steve often even sang when he was sick. Of course that would break a voice down. I was comparing prime to prime. You can't compare a 50 something year old to a 70 something year old. 20 years is a big difference. Touring is handled quite a bit differently these days compared to those that Steve and Journey toured in. Deen Castronovo has a better conditioned voice than both at this point if we are being honest and he is older than Arnel by a few years.

Arnel is such a down-to-earth, humble and very likeable person. Without his saying or claiming it, it was Arnel's golden voice and character that resurrected the Journey band. Neil came across Arnel in 60 youtube videos covering songs of various artists/bands, namely: Journey, Freddie Mercury, Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, Toto, Guns and Roses, Chicago, Survivor, Aerosmith, Leed Zeppelin, Police, Air Supply, Eagles, Steve Miller Band, Kenny Loggins, Stryper, Roxette, Cheap Trick, Skylark, Heart, etc. Arnel has established a foundation in the Philippines, helping a lot of people. Also, he has made investments that he'll secure his long-term financial independence, and one of them is his Rockville resto which consistently attracts large crowds. I believe that he can make a world tour singing all by himself or with a few of of the best Filipino singers, and make it big. If offered to be the front man man old an famous band that wants to get back on the world stage, he'll probably accept it if the terms are right and fair.

He legitimately brought Journey back and made it what it is today. It took a gifted individual to fill the shoes of Steve Perry and Arnel did so much more. If I'm not mistaken when Journey was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Steve mentioned Arnel in his speech, maybe one other member did if not but that's just the respect that Steve has for Arnel. @@alexanderlyon Funny, I wasn’t implying anything about your comment other than he should just go about on his own. Though I don’t think he would fair well because he has yet to prove himself a great songwriter, though that could be arranged by an outside source. My personal experiences with his singing has nothing to do with your opinions at all. It has nothing to do with “picking a fight” no more than you praising him for his particular talents. It’s called an opinion. My opinion stems from the experience of witnessing every singer Journey has had, except for the years Greg Rolie was their sole vocalist for the album’s Journey, Look into the Future, and shared vocals with Perry on his debut on the Next album, Infinity, Evolution and Departure. Those whom have witnessed the band during these years would have the best understanding of whom actually was the better singer, the best replacement, and whether someone is as great as people claim. Experience means everything. I was lucky enough to capture these performances, whether it was my intentions or not. At the same time, I haven’t been seriously into the band once Steve Perry left, and it died even more when Greg Rolie left, even more so after Steve Smith left, and eventually when Ross Valory had left. The eventual slow death process of elimination of Journey has definitely changed the essence of what Journey was, and has only become a heart monitor awaiting its final tick. The band could only truly reestablish itself once again to that status with a true reunion like it had done before, and with a well deserved retirement along with it. On the bands 50th anniversary this year, based on the rumors and lawsuits, this most likely will not take place. What a shame.

Which is rather ironic, because back in high school (first half of the 1980's - Journey's high water mark), when I listened to their music and before I really knew their history I enjoyed them, but certainly never thought the guitar player was anything exceptional. To me they were an extremely successful pop group with some cool musical flourishes that set them apart from their pop contemporaries - but the guitar was an obligatory afterthought; I was much more impressed with the vocals and Steve Smith on drums (I am a drummer though, so I recognize my own bias there). Sure, they guitar leads were tasty and fit in well, but compared to other much more guitar-heavy bands of the era Journey was just average. As I've gotten older, I certainly appreciate Schon's talent and contributions much more than I did then. That said, to play armchair psychiatrist (with all of the qualifications normally associated with that position - none, to be specific) but I truly think he suffers from his own ego and the fact that Journey was originally created largely to be a vehicle for him - that it didn't really pan out that way (despite or perhaps because of their tremendous mainstream success) he's in someways a bit insecure and as such overcompensates by being something of a control freak. It's too bad, because when I finally saw them (probably six or seven years ago), they really played well, it's unfortunate that egos so often drive the trajectories of bands.

And I think it seems like Neil has probably taken Arnel for granted , i mean the guy has sung for them since 2007 , thats 15 plus years , he saved the band from fading into obscurity and yeah if hes not treated fairly and as an equal at this point then maybe it is time to part ways. SOunds like wifey might be causing alot of drama in that band espescially if she maybe doesnt get on with Arnel or something personally ? I mean its sad enough this dispute has gone out into the public instead of getting together and trying to sort it out as bandmates and friends...and also it sucks Arnel wasnt included in the rock n roll hall of fame as he happens to be the longest serving singers in the band.

I can honestly say as a drummer/ musician myself, when it comes to the original sound of the journey, ARNEL is doing his job and then some. JOURNEY will always be a great band and to try and continue a legacy the issue might be personal problems amongst the band because maybe they have a luxurious lifestyle. I personally have come a long way with work and life balance and one thing I have learned is that work life and personal life are 2 different things. I feel if ARNEL has done the best he can do and it is not good enough time for him to move on.

I don’t know all the details, but it seems Neil is still tryin to resurrect the ol’ team of “glory” from the founding days. He wants to play the same Rollie stuff from before, like Neil always wanted to do when Steve came into the band. Neil resisted the evolution of Journey because its wasn’t actually his style and way of playing (featuring more instrumentation and less vocals). I think, in Neil’s mind, he’s favoring substance over style… but, there comes a time when you have to let it go. People aren’t coming to hear the old stuff when Journey was a very different band and very different Journey music of the 70’s era - fusion rock jazz. Neil wants to go back to his roots. Arnel isn’t down for that, and he is just as much a bona fide member of Journey now as they are. It’s wrong for Neil’s wife to call him out like that. She thinks she’s just supporting her husband - kudos there. But you do by promoting and building up your husband’s idea, not criticizing other band members.

Rollie had a big vocals role before Steve Perry joined, and is very accomplished vocalist. No one has more trust and appreciation for the true legacy of Journey than Arnel. If you doubt that, go watch his interactions with Steve Perry at the Hall of Fame introduction. Neal Schon needs to chill out. What happened with Steve Smith and Ross Valory was not good at all. If not for Arnel, Journey wouldn't have been able to rescucitate their careers a long a time ago. Arnel is the one singing the songs infront of the audience.
