I have a love hate relationship with roller coasters. At the beginning I’m like “I regret this and there’s no way to escape” but at the end I usually end up enjoying the ride.

Isn't it still there? I went about a week ago and there was some story to it. I heard someone saying that they needed to find the (idk) of atlantis. There was a scary siten thing too.

This ride needs a massive refurb and needs to be brought back to its original version because this was one of the best things to do back in the day.

This ride scared the shit out of me when I was a kid

@@jrrobinson2391it was good for me, I just rode it today(I don’t ride roller coasters) and I will not go on any coasters, but since this one you don’t know it really helped me to go on it without much of a problem, and I enjoyed it.

It's really disappointing to watch a ride/attraction just be abandoned and put on the back burner. I remember this ride being so much fun when I was younger. The speed of the roller coaster aspect made it feel like we were truly trying to escape from the evil siren. The ride was so full of life with it's use of dark ride magic like neon paints, projections, and fiber optics and the bigger special effects elements such as the giant siren lunging at you and the shaking chandelier that looked like it was falling on you, they just made the ride good! It's a real shame that instead of improving these elements with upgrades or something, they're just turned off and not bothered with. It's just sad because the ride is still popular as it is a water ride in a theme park in Orlando, it's so much fun on a hot summer day. They should really look into giving it some love

Coaster Watch I think they're fixing it for the 2017 season, Sea World is one of my home parks and I think they are going to fix it, the ride is currently closed at the moment, it should open back up this month, however I was lucky enough to ride it when the statue was moving, it was very cool, the current state of it isn't very good, but fingers crossed that it's fixed for 2017

This version of the ride was so much better by far then what it is at the moment, back then, it was an incredible story of a mermaid turning into a siren with some incredible effects, now it's just a dumb musical ride through the drops and coaster elements and it takes away from the experience! #BringBackTheOldJTA

I rode it years ago, I think about 7 or 8 years ago. And I remember thinking it was kind of disjointed. Back then atlantis could be seen more due to lighting but it still felt really weird. A Mermaid tells you to come closer, that stupid sea horse thing popping up at spots in atlantis, mermaid gets angry and starts shapeshifting, then the green eyed gorgon thing lunges out at you which was a good jumpscare at least. But then after the splash we go back up, see what I think was a wrecked ship with the mermaid/gorgon thing laughing and the beetlejuice theme playing. To put it mildly I was confused.

Okay, I feel better. I rode this for the first time a year ago and spent most of the ride trying to figure out what was happening. What did that creepy sea horse have to do with, why did it go from happy people to screaming. Knowing it is missing parts and not that *I* missed parts makes me feel much better.

Man, I miss the storyline and the SFX. It made it so much funner… and when I was a lot younger, the park was about to close, and no one was in line for jta, so me and my dad got to ride it 3 more times in a row! So fun.

This ride needs updating a repaint! What a mess, also using beetle juice music?! WTF

There was clear stagnate water on the lifts. Also they need a better way to incorporate the exit signs, they are kinda distracting

I remember riding this when I was a kid and the ride hadn't been open long. It was actually maybe my favorite ride out of Disney and Universal at the time. I loved the theming so much and the second drop that has a roller coaster track was amazing to me. I rode it again many years later and was sad many of the effects were no longer working.

R.I.P this version of JTA. It will always be remembered in my heart.

I suspected the Mermaid was evil the moment she said “do not be afraid, come closer.”

Went to Seaworld with girl scouts once, and they convinced me (who had never really been on a ""Thrill Ride"" before) to ride both this aND THE KRAKEN. While the kraken made me love roller coasters, this did nothing but emotionally scar me! :)

My God back in its day this was an amazing ride. Still could be if they brought back the story and improved it. Even with all the new parks going in and all the new additions in Orlando fixing this would really put sea world back on the map and give them a Disney quality attraction

This is such a fun ride! At first I expected the first plume to be the climax but then it offers a very fun (but short, indeed) roller coaster element. Definitely an amazing ride!

Alright, who complained and got this amazing ride tampered with? Just rode it yesterday, and none of the anamatronics were working. I thought it was a fluke, but the worker guy said it was gone "for a very long time". ☹️.

It's because of the Blackfish Documentary backlash. The park has been financially struggling, so they're cutting corners, which includes refurbishments.

I have been on this ride, but I missed everything cause either the ride was "Not turned on" or I was busy dealing with a friend who was terrified. Loved, *LOVED* the drop

Just went on this ride with my 8 year old daughter, we had so much fun.

Is it okay even as it's disintegrated self? Is the new theming okay would you say with no Medusa? They could add more plants and decorations I'm sure if people approve of it, we want to preserve the ride if we can

Rode this on Sunday and while still a fun ride (mostly because of the drops and coaster section) I'm sad all the storyline and audio is gone!

I was there when it opened 20 years ago. I remember being blown away by this ride I had never been on anything like it before. It has stood the test of time.

Crazy to see how much they changed the ride now. It has no story, the Medusa is just a menacing statue, they made that second building scene before the drop, pitch black. It’s crazy

This is so much longer and better than the one in San Diego

I went on this. Felt like I was falling out of my seat. Scared me but I kind of want to ride it again lol

Oh yes I remember this ride i actually miss the story version also funny thing when I was little I went to seaworld Orlando I thought this was the little mermaid ride but I guess not. Also fun fact the story was actually at the begging The door opens and a fisherman appears holding a golden seahorse and says “My dear Hermès show them the way!!” And door closes as a beautiful music while sparkling stars reach ur way and u go into a sea life and a statue mermaid sitting comes up as a projection gose on and a mermaid name allura comes to you and says “welcome freinds don’t be afraid come closer let us explore Atlantis” and Hermès the seahorse pops out on a water fountain and then another projection comes on a fountain and alluras cgi face comes up and says “now you’ve done it puny little pony your freinds are no welcome here” and snakes comes out of her hair and her eyes glow green and then Hermès pops out in a pot scared. And then allura said “what’s happening oh no” then flashing strobe lights flash at the Medusa figure that pops out at you. And then green strobe looks at you turns off when the doors opens.

This ride is so great!! The drop feels like your falling for so long

Seaworld has ruined this ride. I went there on summer break and rode this. The Medusa statue isnt even there anymore, nor is any of the 3d images of the people. All they have now is legit small spots of water that shoot out at you and the old buildings with flashing colorful lights.

SO MUCH FUN!!! We rode this like 7 times on my first trip.

Lol did any one notice that he was the only one on the ride because when he looked back I saw no one in the seats besides him...

This was the first roller coaster I ever rode as a kid. I still love it. Im pissed about the watering down of the mermaid stuff though.

This ride was so scary the first time I went on it a couple of years ago.

I swear I cursed the shit out of me.. this was like my first big ride and I counted how many seconds the drop was so I knew and then I went on and immediately regretted it.. I tried to jump out of the line and ride but my friend made me go. After the drop there was like a whole bother coaster and that was when I really flipped.

When I was younger I was always scared by the Medusa head but I remembered it being directly above the boat.🤔

This is absolutely the best ride for a 1 million degree day in Orlando Florida. AC, Water, Rollercoaster plus long ride time. I'm in....lol

The flying dutchman in the Efteling in the Netherlands excecuted this type of rollercoaster perfectly.

When I went, there was no lights at all and it was raining so literally directly before the second drop we got stuck and me and my friends were so creeped out..

2:45 I always loved how they played the Beetlejuice theme on this lift hill, it somehow really fits.

When I was 11 years old on my first trip to SeaWorld Orlando, I was too scared to ride Journey to Atlantis and Kraken, and in 2005 these were the only thrill rides in the park. I returned nearly 20 years later and rode all 5 coasters (the 6th, Penguin Trek was and still is? under construction), Infinity Falls, and Journey To Atlantis. Looking back on it, I can't believe I was scared of Journey to Atlantis as a child. Now, I went in blind and expected it to be like Splash Mountain but was pleasantly surprised it had some coaster elements, was a fairly unique ride, and the drop wasn't that big of a deal. But I could tell time hasn't been kind to the ride after over 25 years - it appears to have had more effects that stopped working or were removed, there were parts of the track that looked like it might have been underwater at some point and now felt like the boat was riding in a drained pool. And I notice some small areas that were literal crumbling away, like some plaster work had come off and I could see the steel mesh and frames underneath and definitely didn't feel like part of the theming, but straight up disrepair. The ride was missing something and this video confirms to me that it did have more effects and something of a story because when I rode it there wasn't much of a plot to the ride - just thrill. Also I found the way the boats drained water was kind of weird - like on the inclines it appeared to have some drainage that would prevent the water from simply rolling down inside the boat but didn't work properly? In any case this was a fun ride and I hope it does get some TLC because it was a bit rough, tired looking, and dare I say lifeless? from my first impressions.

Does anyone else remember a slug looking thing that popped down?? I was also like 6 when I went on this ride LOLLLLL

Sonic 1216 when I was 9 this was the only rollercoaster I could ride

So when I was little my parents told me this was a calm ride so I rode it and now I have a crippling fear of rollercoasters thanks mom

Sameee i even cried 😭

This was the only rollercoaster I rode in the entire park and it broke down twice while I was on it-

Never should have got rid of the story line. Its the one thing that made it good 😭

Built in 1998? So they remolded it since then? Never been there, even though I live less then a hour away. :(

that’s lowkey trippy at the beginning i would be scared af 💀💀

The screen effect and the scream affect did not work on me. I thought that the siren screen with scream was just music playing.

NONE of the effects were working as of the first week of April 2019. Sad, because they look amazing in this video.

Jerry Huster they scrapped the entire story because it was parents were complaining it gave their children nightmares

They should bring back the original ride story that’s what actually made the ride interesting either way both versions were kid friendly it’s just one part that was scary and that was the lady

Love this ride was there bout two yrs ago

No wonder SeaWorld is going out of business, this ride sucked. I had no idea what the hell was happening half the time. Everything seemed kinda off. Not only that, but why the hell were they playing the Bettlegeuse theme??

Alyssa Mata You know, I think they should make a Beetle Juice ride. Maybe Universal Studios should do it.....okay I’m going to watch beetle Juice now.

Alyssa Mata you are wrong I got on this ride yesterday and it was absolutely amazing if you were looking for something with more action you should have rode the mako,kraken, or the manta

Question: Is the guy at the beginning who goes "Show dem the way!!!" supposed to be trying to trick you and is working with Medusa to kill you in Atlantis?

Since the removal of the original pre-show video, a lot of the story has been lost for today's riders. But, originally (in the pre show video, which was done like a news broadcast after Atlantis reemerged), he was shown as a fisherman aware of the danger in Atlantis, and sends the little seahorse thing in his hands to help guide you.

The first time I went on this ride I was around 10 (maybe 11) and the statue would move out to you..and when I went down the giant drop the bar handle wasn’t secure enough and I flew out of my seat, almost falling out of the ride, (remember this is a 10 year old’s first time going on this ride) and I absolutely lost it and started bawling my eyes out >->

I have memories of being 9 years old any really skinny and holding on for dear life thinking that I would fall out and die at the drop when I could feel my body moving out of the seat

I love this ride so much.... I love all the rides i have been to Disney world.... I still want to go again this time with my little boy

I rode this 10 times I loved it so much

i'm glad i got to ride this when i was younger, sad to hear the entire story part got taken out

This was my favorite ride

when i was 6 it was my first time going on a ride and i was exited at first it wasn't scary and then it turns out it was scary and i keep reminding myself "its just a ride its just a ride" and then this freaked me out...2:00
