Maxx61 Check out some great talents of ordinary Filipinos in the streets impersonating carpenters, begees, beattles etc. Some are blind, kids, drunk etc. Karaoke is the #1 past time in the Philippines.

Arnel is a ballistically awesome vocalist … he came from nothing surviving on the streets of manila after his mother passed away when he was young .. she was his everything and encouraged him to sing …. Journey has given him what he richly deserves … worldwide recognition for his incredible talent … he is one of the greatest singers in the rock music business in the 21st century

Arnel is ON it in this gig, was 5 or 6 songs into their Atlanta Gig from this year & was ready to vomit. Arnel was FLAT, NOT warmed-up, straining to hit even middle notes and NEAL was WAY TOO EFFING loud and masturbating under his guitar. One thing I really love about Steve is that there is apparently no hint of jealousy toward arnel. The first time they met was at the Rock and roll Hall of Fame induction and he hugged Darnell and told the camera how great he was and how proud he was of him carrying the band now. it's got to be nearly impossible not to feel threatened when someone that good takes over for you but he really seemed at peace with it.

Gleeming Glow Steve Perry was an amazing singer! I would have loved to see him live! Arnel doesn’t think he is better than Steve Perry, he is in fact one of Steve Perry’s biggest fans. Arnel is absolutely amazing live. One of the best live singers I have ever witnessed. Just because Steve Perry isn’t doing concerts anymore, doesn’t mean you have to rip on Arnel. Journey probably wouldn’t still be touring without Arnel, at least not as well.

I'm not naive, but, what's with the haters and racist comments? I don't understand it really. He's no Steve Perry but he nailed this song. Very well done and he does have a beautiful voice. Been around music many years and the band is still fantastic. Enjoy them while you can.

Arnel is very hit or miss. When he's ON like he is in this performance he's a very good singer and definitely a good front man for the band. But there are many examples - just search on here - and you'll find plenty of times where he's been outright awful.

Carobinson Robinson What are you saying, he (Pineda) will never replace Perry? Perry is no longer the Journey’s lead singer. He is still singing and releasing records but considering his age and illness, he doesn’t sound quite as sharp as he was before. Pineda, being vigorously in good health, and younger than Perry can sing with acuate pitch. Without regards for his Asian diction and pronunciation, Pineda can sing at the same vocal range with Perry. Both are tenors and sound almost the same.

Raphael - He is a great singer and sounds a lot like Steven Perry.....but u never replace the original. Adam Lambert is amazing too, but he will never replace Freddy Mercury. And ur right they sound better today with Arnel as the singer than Steve. But it’s more a figure of speech. He is amazing but u never “replace a legend’ it is not meant in anyway as a slight to Arnel Pineda. He revived Journey.

Bruce K The right term for that is not that you can never replace the original. That’s a false notion. You may never surpass, or never be equal to the original. That should be the right notion. Original broke down, and you have to replace them to keep you going. That is also true in a car. Original parts service very good and unequal as compare to replacement parts. You have to replace them when they become unserviceable.

It seems that an Asian tenor like Arnel can sing and front Journey, who has been touring since2008 when they signed Arnel. Let's not compare him to the past singer(s). Dude is his own man.

I understand Steve Perry Happily decided to stepdown from the band....I grew up listening to Journey, with Steve as lead Singer.... but i believe Arnel was the right choice.... He has channeled Steve Perry like no other

@@lindadannis224 but do you not get that if not for arnel there would be no journey tour and performances to keep the music alive. Also, if it's not arnel it would have been another person to lead Jouney. So I don't understand why people are so hateful. I wonder if Steve Augeri got this much hate, or if people really are just prejudice of Arnel's ethnicity. Journey will continue to replace their front man until they can no longer tour so if you were a true Journey fan, you'd stop the nonsense.

Donna Laurel I personally have nothing against Arnel...talented young man. But why search the world for a Steve Perry “sound alike”? They should have went with an entirely new sound, instead of trying to replace the guy who made Journey the band they were. More than anything, todays Journey is just a STEVE PERRY TRIBUTE BAND. As for being a true Journey fan, i saw them 9 times between 1978 - 1985 in different cities on the east coast...ALL with Steve Perry! How about you? Now days I consider Journey more of a “keeping Neal Schon’s ego alive” band. The magic is no longer there....

The KZreadr You are either to young to have been around during the Perry years or just not very bright. Play one of the side by sides with Steve and Arnel. One sings and feels the emotions...the other just sings the words. If you don’t know which is which...I feel sorry for you! Plus Steve WROTE the songs...what did Arnel ever write? I will wait.....................................If you can’t see which is superior, then there is no sense even bothering with YOU! Peace out ☮️ Or you have major hearing problems!

Glad Journey Found Arnel. What a voice. Such a talented band.

Life is full of many potentials if one can open his or her views and widen up to the spaciousness. This here he, is the paragon of what i see and what i feel and just depict my words better than anything. Next level of greatness, new era of departure seems already begun.

Arnel ,your voice is so beautiful. I'm so glad Journey has chosen you to keep these wonderful tunes alive with new recordings, tours, tv appearances etc. It is unfair I think to compare who is better in interpreting these songs. Steve is Steve and Arnel is Arnel but I could understand how the original band fans reminisce about the old days of the band. But judging by the info available on the net between Steve and band members I really can't see another reunion. In final, your story from poverty to now singing lead for Journey has brought a new wonderful dimension to the songs,not to mention new fans. I 'm so glad to read that your taking precautions in preserving your voice. Singing these songs in your 50's,60's is another challenge. God Bless
