Oregon lives rent free in so many heads which is ironic considering we haven't actually won a title yet. I honestly think that's what they're afraid of. Oregon is a new blood team, one that was fully mid until around 1994 and didn't become a real top tier contender until the 2000's when Nike came in and fully revamped the program and the old guard doesn't like it. Now Lanning is doing things no other head coach has EVER done before at Oregon and he's done so in a mere 2 years. Add to that he's only 38 years old and has made his intention clear that he's not going anywhere and the blue bloods are really starting to quake. They can't conceive of a world where the Oregon Ducks stand toe to toe with the 'Bama's, the Georgia's, the Ohio State's the LSU's etc. not only in wins but in national titles and it scares the hell out of them so they lash out. Get used to it folks, the Ducks are laying down the foundations of the next big dynasty and there's not much you can do about it.

I’m a Georgia fan here and here’s what I got to say about Lanning. In 10 years If Kirby decides to hang up his visor my #1 candidate to replace to and until then, or something else happens, will be Dan Lanning. He has all the qualities I like that Kirby has. I think it's unlikely Lanning will coach at Oregon until he's 65 or whatever (that would be a heck of a long time, considering his age), but I can't quite see what will entice him. Georgia is as likely as any college program, I suppose. But I don't think he's going to feel like there's any real reason to take that job 10 years from now -- he wouldn't have to work _quite_ as hard at recruiting, maybe, but I don't think he minds hard work. I expect next time Lanning gets a raise at Oregon his salary will be up in the top tier. Maybe the NFL would be something different enough, and he decides to give that a go when he's 50 or something.

I posted this in the comment section of the full episode this came from, but I’m gonna repost it here as well since this is the official clip. “As an Oregon fan, I think the reason why a lot of people have that mindset that Dan Lanning can’t get over the hump and never will is because Oregon itself has been a program that’s never been able to get over the hump for years now. Whether it’s Mario or Chip or even Mike Bellotti, Oregon had a history of riding high and then falling short at the most inopportune moments year after year. So people just want to automatically lump Lanning into that and say that he isn’t going to do anything at Oregon because nobody’s done anything at Oregon. (When I say that, I mean that no coach has even won a national championship at Oregon. Just clarifying since that’s the ceiling that most people judge coaches and teams on these days.) Now, as somebody who’s been paying attention to the moves that Dan’s been making towards the defense this offseason, I have a strong feeling that that’s no longer going to be the case. I won’t say it’ll be next year, but I wouldn’t at all be surprised if in the next couple of years, Oregon will finally have itself a ring and a shiny gold trophy thanks to Dan Lanning.”

Read a USC fans recruiting report, it pointed out Oregon had commits from 12 four and five star recruits so far and the other West Coast Big Ten teams USC, UCLA and Washington had only a COMBINED 10 four and five star recruits. As for the Phil Knight thing, sorry to tell the haters but Uncle Phil is not the only gazilionaire Oregon fan donating bucket loads to the school, Oregon is loaded $, their track stadium cost more than most D1 schools football stadiums. It may not be fair, I get that I understand but some schools alums are just willing to give bucket loads of money, the Bama's, Georgia, Clemson, Florida St, Ohio St, Michigan, LSU, Texas, USC, Oklahoma etc and the rest are just praying for that special once in a lifetime team while most of the schools I mentioned just reload every year.

you’re right about one thing: B1G homers thinking the Pac-12 west coast offense won’t blow up 70% of the teams with their northern old school football defense, then also thinking they’re all getting shellshocked in the B1G. in this age of college sports with NIL enabled, my team isn’t even in that conference and I’m tracking how many high talent people they’ve (Oregon) snagged in the transfer portal, starting with Dillon Gabriel. Dan is the first from the Kirby Smart tree to pan out great in college, but has to reach the CFP semis to be proven from the other assistants soon to be or is a HC/has a job in the pros. I’d been more impressed if they made the 4 team last year as it was 4 teams compared to 12. But some Duck fans have been overrating him just a little bit. now just hope they actually win a championship lol

@@pJ-us2vlKirby Smart went 8-5 his first season at UGA, it took him a few seasons of recruiting specific players for his system to get things going correctly. UGAs problem was always the defense under Richt, mainly the front 7. Once Kirby had the personnel things came together. In Kirby’s second season he did better, going 9-0 to start reaching the rose bowl defeating an OU team with baker mayfield that was rolling over everyone and going on to a national championship game losing on the final drive. Lanning is doing the exact same thing and building a defense at Oregon with same blue print as UGA and Bama. The longer he recruits the better they will get, it’s only his 3rd season, so now some of those players he first recruited for his system should be matured in it. He has a cap much higher than Ryan Day and understands the importance of player development vs relying on raw talent. He understands player rotation to keep players fresh throughout the game something not found in the Big10 and soon he will have all the personnel to do it. He’s going to be great it’s only a matter of time.

I'm no Orgegon fan, but Lanning has taken all the upsides that Oregon has to offer and put them to good use. I only wish there'd be a list of the clowns that say foolery about Lanning, and Franklin, and others and when they are proven wrong, they should be banned from any and all public commenting and they should be called out by name as literal fools that are of zero value.

Yes Lanning made several bad calls that cost them games two years in a row against Washington, although injuries heavily contributed to that first one, BUT as you point out the guy has been a head coach for just two years, he will learn not to constantly gamble.

I've always said "Now or Never" declarations are ridiculous. They did it to Kirby too. Hell, preseason the year of his 1st of back-to-back natties I was listening to some podcast & they were still calling him Kirby Dumb. But the comparison just isn't apt yet. Year 2 Kirby lost to Auburn in 2017, but won the rematch for the SEC title & made it to overtime of a natty with a true frosh QB. Lanning had the same situation, but lost his rematch to Wash, even with a 5th year starter Heisman Finalist QB. So he could get there, but not yet. I don't see how anyone can have him over Dabo or even DeBoer. JMO. Mark Richt had more momentum, also winning the SEC in year 2. But he never won it all. Could Lanning? Sure. Will he? How could anyone say yes for sure, especially going to a tougher league when he couldn't win the easier one last year.

Imagine how insufferable we'll be WHEN we win the Championship finally. Yeah we're doing it with Nike money. Just like other schools did it with Oil money, and USC did it cause of LA. You use what you got. We're the place Nike was born. If they'd been born at the farm down in Stanford, or up the road in corvallis, or way over in the northeast, they'd be using it too.

A guy who has been to playoffs almost every yr an has 2 B10 titles and is also a First time head coach!! Actually a guy who is 2 plays away from being a 2x National Champ! Yet all he gets is sh*t on for losing to 4 National Champion teams an only had 2 bad losses!! Very Very funny. Is better than Smart in his first 5-6 yrs!!
