@@civildiscourse7626 The league cup has never been a massive thing and I'm not advocating it becoming a massive thing. all im saying is that we have a league where the likes of Liverpool, who just won the prem and the champions league, are top 4 strugglers, and the competitors are the same in those cups, that winning it should be considered more of an achievement than the United teams of yesteryear winning it. When the competition for glory is this intense, surelty every scrap of glory should have it's value go up? And the only reason i can think for it's seeming diminishment is that the business side of football care more about top 4 money than trophies. Well, i dont care as much about that, for me top 4 is a means to the end of a European trophy chance next year. A league cup should have more prestige than a top 4 finish. At least considered independently, top 4 might be more important long term, but only becuase it provides more resources to win more trophies. After all, the game between big clubs is "lets see how many trophies we've each won", not "lets see how many top 4s you've managed".

@kate walker That was just rejected. I'm convinced that eventually a European super league will happen in time but English clubs have the upper hand. They have the highest international profile and any European league needs English clubs for purely financial reasons. When the price is right and TV throws enough money at it just watch it happen. It's been in the making for years. I personally don't like the idea but market forces dictate that in time it will happen.

Ryan Mason should not be anywhere near manager but it almost show whatever happened behind closed doors they saw no other way with Jose and that is a real shame. You can say a lot of things about spurs, but to say the the board has no clue would be very wrong. They are very methodological. I mean they hired Mourinho 24 hours after sacking Poch. They must have a manager lined up already. Now whether or not their plan is a good one we can only say in time, but levy wouldn't do something like this without having got the approval of someone who's going to come in probably at the end of the season.

Even if Simon is right about levy’s financial motives for sacking Jose I agree with levy- Spurs winning a trophy would have ideally been the league but at least the fa cup or even europa, giving Jose a bonus for winning the league cup that’s probably bigger than the prize money is a joke lol. He was gonna get sacked anyway and probably lose too. The league cup does nothing to booster Spurs reputation as a club

I am not against improving football competition but this ESL is a joke. No matter what the outcome of the matches, the original 15 clubs including the three new ones to be named later, will always stay in the competition & not relegated. Without the risk of relegation there is no incentive to improve performance. That is a recipe fir disaster. The football quality will degrade. But it is perfect for Arsenal & Tottenham, two teams with no desire to win any trophy just make more money.

They may well need Klopp; in actual fact he’d perfect for their situation because of his record of transforming failing clubs (“sleeping giants”) on a limited budget. Not many realise how small Liverpool’s net spend has been under Klopp, or how tight restrictions were at Dortmund (with Bayern then coming in and poaching his best talents). He would transform the mentality of the squad. But this is purely hypothetical; everyone in German football has expressed that Klopp is a unique manager, but you could offer to make him the highest paid manager in Europe and it wouldn’t draw him to Tottenham. Not one chance in a million would leave Liverpool and even if he wasn’t committed to Liverpool, he’s very selective with the clubs he manages. He was offered the Man United job before Liverpool and turned it down with the abstract reason that “it didn’t feel right”. Honestly, Tottenham have massive issues throughout that start with Levy. Manager is the most obvious but that squad without Kane is at best mid table. Beyond a lack of quality they have a strange sort of mental weakness running through the club, which Mourinho alluded to a few times when they would concede lead after lead.

Levy values profit above anything. If it paid better to be relegated he'd get us relegated. It wouldn't surprise me if it turns out he sacked Mourinho before the final to simply shaft him in bonuses. The fact that Spurs have a (slim) chance of winning the Caraboa Cup means nothing to him. That's why the ESL was a dream to him; make all that money without trying to win it with the threat of relegation removed.
