    Martin is right. Sheikh Mansour and Roman Abramovich are a different profile of owner, compared to Kroenke, Glazers and Henry. The Americans bought their clubs to milk as much money out of it, Abramovich and Mansour bought this as a hobby, to clean their reputations, and for ego.

    None of the owners have anything to loose. If they think this ESL is necessary then they obviously don’t think football as it stands is a good return going forwards. And if it is just a vanity project for some like Abramovic then they can sell and do something else. Theres no positive outcome for English football and I suspect that’s by design. When they say they want to save football it’s not just PR......they have a gun pointed at the game so it’s very literal.

His personal attacks on Chelsea's owner are especially unpleasant, wrong and cowardly (he's not around to respond to the ugly slurs Jordan uses). I live in America and I'm a football fan. I have seen both systems in action. The European model (sans the ESL) is the best model for legitimacy of champions. Their problem is that the TV money is distributed poorly. Big clubs have way too much power. In the interest of competition, this initiative needs to be squashed. Be honest with yourselves on where you stand on this issue. If you are playing devil's advocate, and apologizing for the owners, finding reasons for what and how they think, you're probably in favor of the ESL.

  • @JuicyCharon

    @JuicyCharon

    3 жыл бұрын

    I understand why the owners did it. The point is their model will detract from what football in Europe is about. Football isn't sustainable in its current form due to high expenditure from clubs. Clubs need to make profits otherwise they'll seek other arrangements. This super league proposal doesn't have a meritocracy angle to it and therefore is easily rejected.

    We keep pointing the finger of greed at these clubs instead of these mercenary football players that are ruining the game with their high wage demands. Have a tier of earnings that is consistent for the game. If a play is world-class he can expect a certain amount and no more. It is that players and their agent ruining the game with their money-grabbing. These clubs have to find a way to make money or they bust. Simple as that. This Superleague is a byproduct of the greed that already exist in football. You can't pay Garth Bale £600k a week and think you can get away with it for too long.

    Unfortunately currently football simply isn't sustainable. Crazy to sat but football clubs need more money to pay the rising salaries. It only works if the top 6 in Englanf get into the champions league so that they can have a slice of that CL revenue. The problem is every year 2 big teams out of Liverpool, United, City, Chelsea, arsenal and spurs will miss out on Champions league. If they miss out, then they'll be operating at a loss that season. Thats not good business for them and Unfortunately for them to get champions league football guaranteed every year, they have to give into demands of agents and footballers in order to bring them to the club. Agents know this so they negotatiate the best deals thereby making it harder for clubs to operate in a profit. Solutions: You either decrease wages (wage caps for example) or you increase revenue (what this ESL proposal was about. The issue is the proposal was only for themselves when actually this issue regarding sustainability affects the whole game not just the top 6.

    Football should run like a mature business? Football is sport, even though there is so much money in it. It is about far more than transactions etc. You can't run a country like a business either, because you can't just lay off your citizens like a business would. Business is just one part of the whole, it's not the be all and end all. Billions of people doing their thing being productive et cetera is what makes our world go around. That's what creates commerce and wealth, not the other way around. The billionaires just try to hoover it all up for themselves and ESL is a prime example of that. Why can they do that? In this type of society their capital stake gives them the right to take the lion's share of the fruit of our labours. Nothing much will change unless that changes.

    Totally agree,I am not against the ESL but the fact that 15 teams get automatically promoted is what annoys me.They should introduce a relegation and promotion system.Maybe 5 teams in(as they already planned) and 5 teams out(no matter if you are a founding club or not).

It's dumb that PSG won last 7 out of 8 domestically, Bayern won 8 in a row, Juventus won 9 in a row and Barcelona/Real Madrid won 10 out of last 11. Instead of trashing weaker teams 5-0 where there is no real competition they should have a proper international league among themselves. Real competition for the best clubs in Europe. BUT it has to be fair, not a closed shop. Agree 100% with you bro, glad to see you're thinking on the same page.
