Jorge Masvidal describes journey to UFC 244, family, growing up in Miami | Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show

Спорт

Jorge Masvidal sits down with Ariel Helwani to discuss his rise to mainstream popularity, leading to a main event fight vs. Nate Diaz at UFC 244 in Madison Square Garden. Masvidal credits his time on a reality show to help him focus and develop a plan for the rest of his career. (10:38) Masvidal describes how his father’s time in jail taught him lessons about life and to stay out of trouble. “Gamebred” also talks about (18:01) the struggles he had early in his career, including living in his car for 4-5 months and under the ring at his gym. (21:35) Helwani asks Masvidal about the similarities he sees between himself and Diaz as well as how the (26:40) beef with Colby Covington developed.

It’s hard when you like both fighters. But I think this fight means more for Masvidals career than it does Diaz. If Diaz looses he will still be a big star, especially if it’s a war. I think it hurts Masvidals career more if he looses than it does Diaz so I’m kind of hoping Masvidal wins. But in reality I can’t choose, I want both of them to win.

One thing I wont forget is after Jorge had 2 or 3 fights in the UFC, I sent him a Facebook message letting him know I was a fan and I admired how he came up from the streets & Kimbo video to a UFC fighter...and he took the time to reply the same day and just said he appreciated it/wont let us (his fans) down. It was like a 3 sentence thank you but it was cool of him to do. Love Nate too so its a shame one of them has to lose. Hopefully its a war and neither lose stock.
