    Thank you for being such a tremendous friend of sanity and democracy. Your fairness and resistance to the sudden infatuation of the media today to support terrorists is noted and appreciated. You clearly respect the responsibility your platform requires, if others with your reach showed a fraction of your discipline we wouldn't have the crisis of truth we find ourselves in today. You have earned a loyal fan and I let no opportunity to spread the word about what a gem your channel is pass me by!!!!

    This was an exceptionally good one. As an Israeli who served 20 years ago, and often talks with my army buddies about how little the west can follow the whole story with it's multiple actors, this episode I would highly recommend. I do have two points I'd think would be important to point out: 1) The PA-PLO-Fatah being called pragmatic might be misunderstood as them having their goals set on coexisting with Israel. They were pragmatic in the means they would like to use to gain land and other objectives Arafat had a way of reassuring his people by giving them the message that they did not give up on the intifada, they just used the negotiating table and Israel's addiction to peace. Many in Israel's "hopeful" camp, would assume that he said this to his people to keep them under control but I am of the opinion that he was duping Israel and the west and the 93 Oslo accords were a trojan horse.. Most here should already know the fact the PA give stipends to families of dead terrorists. Encouraging terrorist activity amongst the poor. 2) the meta objective in Israel's currant war in Gaza is to regain a real deterrence in the whole region. One can't have a peaceful state in this area without convincing your neighbors that provoking us is survivable. Our "containment" doctrine we practiced over the years inspired our enemies to think one could: attack Israel, suffer some losses rebuild, and continue. We can't allow another 10/7.. Some of us in Israel think we should have retaliated with this level of force for lesser attacks that we suffered in the last 30 years to avoid 10/7.

    What an excellent interview! I know a lot about the history of this region, but I learned even more by watching this video. One important thing to note - When the anti-Israel/pro-Palestinian activists (and their supporters) are talking about "the occupation", they are NOT just talking about the West Bank and Gaza. They're talking about ALL of the land that compromises the modern state of Israel. It is critically important to be very clear about the ramifications of this ideological stance, since it means there is no compromise possible with anyone holding that viewpoint. They are not seeking some mutually acceptable formula for peaceful co-existence. They seek annihilation. I'm almost certain the Jonathan would agree with me on this point and I imagine he would have brought it up himself if the the interview had been longer. Once again, thank you for the thoughtful and insightful discussion of a very complex issue!

    He's right that the American and European mainstream media news outlets are not only blatantly biased, they are also woefully uninformed and shallow in their reporting. It's their own fault of course, but part of the blame also has to be lain upon their consumers who have short attention spans and a dismal lack of curiosity about the facts that are necessarily complex and challenging to understand. It would seem that those of us who are willing or able to read books and spend time listening to detailed podcasts like this one are an insignificant minority of the audience. It's frustrating and debilitating, but increasingly that seems to be the case.

    In your rightful criticism of American foreign policy in the region while advocating a "back to the basics" approach, i think you should have given some credit to Trump's promising policy of negotiating the Abraham Accords, and to Netanyahu's concomitant cooperation in working toward a peaceful relationship with Saudi Arabia. Fear of that vector threatening to make Hamas irrelevant, seems to have been a motivating factor in the timing of the October 7th massacres. So far, somewhat surprisingly, the Saudis appear to be restrained in their response to Israel's current war against Hamas and Hezbollah. For purely selfish political reasons, Biden and Blinken continie to downplay the success of the Accords, because they clearly don't want to give any credit to Gerald Kushner and Trump for any foreign policy successes going into the 2024 elections.

    The 'mastermind' of Hamas death squads, alZahar, proclaimed in 2009, that Hamas and Arafat were in close contact with each other during CampDavid. Zahar said he was just waiting for Arafat to give the green light to Hamas to begin the 2nd Intifada's suicide bombing reign of terror /horror I was in Israel 🇮🇱 at the time ;it was a mocking, sickening public admission and boasting of the horrific post-Camp David genocide implementation. I'm very familiar with this horror, as I was almost killed in the Hamas/Muzbrohoodlum mass atrocities on June 1st of 2000. 21 kids blown to pieces, and I was nearly #22. That led to PTSD and a commitment to research on the sadistic reality of the Muslim Brotherhood. October 7th showed the depraved genocidal intent of the terrorist Palestinians and Iran /proxies. 49:24

    10/7 is a new threshold that may very well lead to something worse if there is complacency or appeasement. Iran and nukes is the elephant I see getting ignored which has the ability to turn this world absolutely upside down.

  • @bearowen5480

    @bearowen5480

    6 ай бұрын

    Despite the evidence of Israel's complacency which made the country vulnerable to the 10/7 attacks, I remain fairly confident that the Israelis are realistically vigilant and anxious about Iran's nuclear weapons program and the truly existential threat it represents. The actual carnage that a Hiroshima-sized warhead over downtown Tel Aviv would create makes the 10/7 attacks tiny by comparison, a pinprick vs a beheading. I would be shocked to think that Israel doesn't have a minutely detailed plan and the aircraft and munitions all ready to launch on a moment's notice for utterly destroying Iran's nuclear weapons production facilities. They of course would like us to do it for them, but failing that, they'll willingly face the approbation of the world and do the job for themselves. The people who experienced the Holocaust will not sit idly by and allow Tehran to point a nuclear weapon at their heads and not react preemptively and decisively. Also, they will not allow themselves to be dragged into a nuclear suicide pact like the one that the US and the Soviets engaged in for nearly 65 years. That Mutually Assured Destruction policy worked because the Americans and the Soviets were both led by rational actors. But, the Iranians have proven that they are irrational when it comes to the death of Israel and the United States. No rational leader should ever be confident that the Jihadists currently in control of Iran wouldn't push the big red button against Tel Aviv, even if it meant their own certain thermonuclear annihilation. Israel will preemptively act when it knows that Iran has achieved a deliverable nuke. End of story.

What is incredibly heartbreaking is to see people supporting Hamas, UN saying the attack did not occur “in a vaccum” ( what does she mean? How many innocent Palestinians have to be killed or displaced before it makes up for Oct 7? There seems to be no end in sight. It is a war that Israel has been winning since the 1940s. The so called terror attacks are acts of war trying to fight back for all that has been done.

    58:18 I love the question: "what about this 'occupation' narrative we keep hearing about? (If Israel did indeed leave Gaza in 2006); I am looking forward to his answer. However, based on other studies [equally good ones] it is not exactly true that Gaza and the West Bank were not 'occupied'. (It might come down to the definition of the word). The biggest thing I learned recently is that the people living in Gaza (other than those w work/medical visas to Israel; Egypt) are NOT allowed to leave Gaza, period. They cannot get a passport to travel say to the US or Europe, etc. to visit relatives. Or leastwise, it is extremely, extremely difficult. And this often includes family members who travel INTO Gaza. So relatives are reluctant to visit. A really sad story here on You Tube, is beyond comprehension (and well documented). He has 9 siblings & parents most all whom are college educated living in Gaza, and none of whom have work. He has a cafe in Germany which he considers his "2nd home" (he is happy there) for some 20 years now, and a prosthetic leg - he's about 43. He has no criminal record in either region. He went ALL the way to the Jordanian border on a passport but was not allowed in. After weeks and a lot of finagling with the embassies [Jordan, Israel, Gaza], he was told he'd be allowed into Gaza but with no guarantee of being allowed back out. [Sad, sad story - the effect this had on his family]. Somehow, it was both the Gazan and the Israeli countries that were preventing him this free travel. I mean, neither country would even take the time out to really learn about him and them and make an exception here. It is one of the saddest stories I've seen recently. And this was a year or two BEFORE October 7th, 2023. OTHER, West Bank residents are not allowed to travel say to Jerusalem where the mosque and big shopping is or anywhere outside the West Bank without a lot of hullabaloo at crossings and often complete denial depending on the mood of armed guards. Its absurd. And of course, Netanyahu's govt keeps encroaching with new settlements into the West Bank even against many Israeli's (& Trump's & Biden's) people's will these last few years. I MEAN if you are not allowed to get passports and travel outside a 25 mile radius like in the Gaza, that IS being occupied in one sense of the word, or at least controlled 24/7, 365 days a year, every year. Sorry for the long post. Now for his answer.

I have bought your amazing books and congratulate you. One thing Israel has forgotten, their God, Jehovah. When they followed Him, (not their traditions that were added to their scriptures) when this country followed their Scriptures, they were blessed. Someday after the Christian church age ends, their Redeemer will come back, win a war (Armageddon) and set up the millennial Kingdom. WoW.

    I watched this twice... while I am of the opinion that some sort of 2 nation solution is the only long term solution, I do now appreciate more the Israeli fear that any time and space given the Palestinians would allow remnants of Hamas or its similarly fanatical successors to develop new tactics, rearm and go at Israel again. And also the pessimism that any Palestinian leadership that forgoes violence against Israel would not be respected by the Palestinian population, or that no other leadership even has a chance due to civil war violence. Any ultimate 2 tribe solution (I'm just playing with synonyms to keep it fresh) should allow for regional policing and should model global excellence in policing while catching potential culture forest fires of jihadism early. And there simply have to be leaders that emerge that can meet the moment.

    Love the channel & wide breadth of opinions & information you provide on the channel, Jack. Having said that, while I am always open to those differing viewpoints for I firmly believe one of the best ways we learn & grow is to challenge ourselves & question everything, I must say that this particular guest is at best a propagandist & at worst an outright liar. Mr. Schanzer spun & omitted so many salient facts in this interview that I don’t see how anyone could take him seriously. For example, one major lie by omission was that in his description of the history of the relationship between Israel & Palestinians & the growth of Hamas he failed to mention the fact that Israel - at Bibi’s direction - funded & grew Hamas into the military & political force that we see today. The rationale for this was to oppose the PLO in order to create “permanent division” within the Palestinian people. Israel saw the PLO as the greater political threat & felt they needed to be counter balanced by an “extremist group” to continue this schism in perpetuity & to prevent the Palestinians from coalescing around one leadership & thereby prevent any real threat of regaining lost territories. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out as planned with Hamas “winning” this standoff with the PLO & gaining greater not lesser favor with the Palestinian people bc they saw them as actually able to accomplish goals whether thru peaceful or violent means. In short, Israel essentially created its own “Frankenstein’s Monster” & are reaping what Bibi sowed as we speak. EDIT: As Mr. Schanzer well knows, all of the terrorist attacks which occurred during this formative period especially happened within Israel leadership’s purview, & that includes US think tanks & bureaucrats. This is, by the way the same idiotic & disastrous philosophy which led the US down the fateful path of funding Saddam Hussein to oppose Iran & funding Al Quaeda to oppose the Russians before that. We can see the fingerprints of people like Mr. Schanzer all over Bibi’s “brilliant” plan to fund & grow Hamas. Mind boggling. There are of course countless spun facts & lies contained within the rest of Mr. Schanzer’s long winded delivery, but this is perhaps the most important one of the first 15 or so minutes of this discussion for what should be obvious reasons. Countless lives have been lost in all of these aforementioned theaters at least in part bc people like Mr. Schanzer are in positions of influence & their ideas become policy which then repeatedly blow up in everyone’s faces. And then people like Mr. Schanzer do the rounds to cover up those mistakes by spinning how all of these conflicts started &/or escalated in the first place: because people like Mr. Schanzer are pencil pushing morons who don’t know WTF they are doing.

    Oversimplification much? You said a whole bunch of nothing and the one statement you made was horseshit. Israel didn’t fund or grow Hamas as a counterbalance to fatah. In the beginning of Hamas under sheikh Ahmad Yasin they were a non violent grass roots movement concentrated on social services and a religious alternative to the morbidly corrupt and inept government of Arafat. Israel didn’t get in their way because they weren’t a threat. You’re either forgetting or blatantly omitting in your little diatribe that in 1986 Arafat was an arch terrorist with blood on his hands and his organization was until that point Israel’s biggest non state enemy. Additionally, Bibi was no where near his first term as PM in the late 80s when Hamas was forming. Once Hamas sent their first human bomb into Israel’s population centers Hamas was enemy no 2 and Israel placed all available resources to thwart it. This whole Israel and Bibi created Hamas is utter crap. Your agenda to blame Israel is telling.

    My friend, you should carefully wipe the spittle off your keyboard, go outside, take a series of deep breaths and rethink how you ended up in such a difficult place. Pretty much everything you wrote in your diatribe is a lie, a mischaracterization, or just hateful and ignorant. I’m not sure how you got so mixed up, but hopefully at some point you’ll grow out of it and become a mature, functioning adult.

    Its hard to succinctly put out the entire history, i get it. But this is challenging to listen to through the beginning. I might continue and see where things go. But this has been a heavily ...one sided view of history so far. I dont need someone talking about how Oct 7 was a massacre because of how many ppl were brutally murdered, and how some hostages were taken, when the other side has done the same for decades and in response to Oct 7, at a MUCH larger scale, and its just self defense or acts of war. Acts of war are acts of terrorism. The current Israeli government strategy is ruthless...and a much different strategy compared with how the US government has tried to execute it's "war on terror." Frankly, it seems more and more like the US government wants the Israeli government to do what it never would: decimate the region, push the so called terrorists across an imaginary border, and hope they never return. But it only fuels the next bunch. If Oct 7 is viewed as a "terrorist attack" its solely because no one acknowledges Hamas, despite Israel, and the US contributing to its formation. They view themselves as the only answer in a never ending war, that really was started because some western power decided to take their land and give it to someone else. Countless attacks have been performed by either side. It is a war. A war that Israel is winning, but frankly despite Israel being an "enemy of our enemy" with the frabric of America being made up of so many different ppl, ppl of different cultures and religions (very different from what Israel wants) things can and will get very dicey moving forward in terms of safety on our soil. To me, this conflict needs to be something that the government of the US would be better off distancing itself from. Far too many ppl, countries, governements are starting to get angry.
