1995 in Gothenberg was the most amazing thing to watch as a kid, I was so gutted when he only won Silver in Atlanta. So when he got that gold in Sydney is was so brilliant.

I remember he on the triple jump and colin Jackson on 110m were kicking ass. Edwards was unbeatable kinda felt sorry for the competition. He was competing alone over the 18m mark. That was just ridiculous. He's just being nice in these interviews.

I think the OP is referring to his 1995 season where he was jumping half a metre ahead of the entire competition every single event.

Why do the Olympic champions always foul the first 2 rounds? Taylor did it twice, and so did Edwards. And they always just go for it the third round

Next-Gen-Jay Taylor is the most clutch jumper though! He’s always rose to the occasion in every big championship and olympics, and if he wasn’t injured and in the process of switching legs during 2013 I think Teddy would’ve had a run for his money

A bit pedantic but one thing that always annoys me whenever I see a video of 1996 is the distance board by the pit not showing where 18 metres roughly was, with what happened the year before it was well worth doing so.

Yeah, it was stupid. It's bugged me every time I've watched it. The year before Edwards broke the mythical barrier of 18 meters, Harrison also jumps 18 meters that year, and in the Olympic final, Edwards vs Harrison, some dipshit decides to end that measuring board at 17.5 meters. What were those muppets smoking?

Jonathan Edwards also jumped 18.43 on a wind assisted attempt. I don't see anyone beating his record for a while, only a small handful of jumpers have gone 18+

It's all 'what if' though. Edwards jumped 18.43 but the wind speed was a fraction over the limit. That's sport!

Prappsy Edward has had the farthest jumps and is a GOAT, but I also see Christian Taylor as another GOAT. Edwards jumped the farthest jumps of all time, but Christian has been the TJ king for essentially a decade. Albeit 2013 he was injured, otherwise I think he’d have 5 world championship titles under his belt. Nobody was more clutch too.
