Will we see a new high jump world record in Tokyo? Ft. Javier Sotomayor 🇨🇺

Спорт

📲 Subscribe to @olympics: oly.ch/Subscribe
Nobody has jumped higher than Javier Sotomayor - 2,45 metres like a volleyball net or a football crossbar! The Cuban has held the high jump world record since 1988: "I never thought it was going to last for so many years. The fact my record keeps holding up despite all the science applied to sports makes my feat even more impressive." So what does it take to be the best jumper in the world?

They have been indoctrinated to accept that wealth creation by all means is the objective of life so personal prowess to achieve excellence does not mean much. The truth is, personal prowess to achieve excellence is the purpose of life whilst wealth creation is of no value nor consequence. The search for wealth has lead them into criminality which they have to pay for. One who does not celebrate excellence is envious. Envy is the feeling of ill-will or grudging bitterness toward a person who is or who has what one hungerinly desires to be or to have. Not celebrating is not competitiveness.

As a junior high jumper and basketball player in my past, I think the reason the record stays this long is the young athletes with explosive leg power end up in basketball or volleyball, not high jumo. the minimal vertical leap necessary to clear 2,35' for instance, is around 30-33 inch. just to compare, elite basketball and volleyball players have a vertical leap of around 40 inch. and with most of them taller than 1.80, and perfectly coordinated, there's no reason to think they couldn't have been great high jumpers, and probably one of them could have broken the record. but the thing is they couldn't have trained in both sports growing up, because unlike sprinting, where you do see football players who ran in their high school years, high jump is much more technical, so they can't dedicate themselves to both sports.

@@saikishore9742 Harrison from LSU - his best is 2.30 if not mistaken and just at ncaa indoor championships last month. He is an amazing young athlete who is almost equally good in the long jump, he won both at the meet. If he focused on high jump out of college he could possibly get there eventually with the right professional training (once out of amateur status) if he stays healthy. While his 2.30 indoor was the 7th best in the world @ indoor 2019/20 season, that is 6 inches from tying the world record. For those that have never jumped that is a big difference at that height.

The difference between 2.46 and 2.47 is approxiamately 3/8s of an inch. The metric system, at least the way it is used in the high jump, pole vault, long jump, etc. is not precise enough. 3/8s of an inch in the high jump is significant.

not possible. high jumpers are delicate they land on bed cushion on the other side hence the ankles are not hardened. used for take off only. basketball dunk means you have to jump and land on the hard floor on your feet! so they cant do it again n again. that first guy already has had ankle surgery. did you see how fragile they are? so totally different sports. they are able to reach that high due to cushion on the other side. basketball is a vertical and different with repeated action. need more strength and power but height gets compromised!

Will there be World Records in japan? Interesting, but I think the World pandemic hurt many sports due to lack of high performance events that should have taken place a year in advance to the Olympic Games. I think many of these high class athletes haven't had the best pre Olympic competitions or World Championships to challenge their skills. It certainly will be interesting though.

Pause it at 0.50 and see by how much he cleared the bar. Easily 6 to 8 inches, which means he could have cleared 2.70 on this particular jump. Amazing!!

Say what you want the record to me is not 2.45. He cleared that with at least 2 to 3 inches over the bar. I remember watching this as a kid and being inspired. I may have only been 5ft 10 but it showed me what could be done. It may not be a world Record but for me when I cleared 6ft it was a feeling I can not explain. To many times i was told i would not make it because I was not tall enough.
