The highlight (if you can call it that) of my rugby career was playing against Jonah in a high school sevens tournament back when I lived in NZ. He played forward at that time. He was not only the biggest guy on the field, but also by far the quickest. As a smaller built guy I was used to tackling many of the big Maori and Island boys who had a good 100 lbs on me when I was 17-18, but he was something else. Most bigger guys you could drop by grabbing their legs, but the problem with trying to do that with Jonah is that he was just so big and so tall that it was almost impossible to grab both legs at once. The game I played against him I think he scored 4-5 tries on his own. The one time I got close enough to even attempt to tackle him all I could grab was one leg. He must have dragged my skinny white ass about 40 yards down the field (without hardly slowing down) before he finally shook me off and went in to score. I managed to keep hold of his cleat though! As he jogged back after scoring I tossed it back to him with a comment "goddamn you're a big bugger." He just smiled and said "nice try bro." I felt a whole lot better about my effort when I saw him shrugging off seasoned international players while playing for the ABs the very next year. Many of his highlights involve him just steamrolling over his opponents, but the thing he doesn't seem to get enough credit for is his speed. He was RIDICULOUSLY fast, which made him even tougher to stop. Brace yourself to try to tackle him and he goes around you. Try to match him for speed and he'd catch you off balance and send you flying with the old Maori (or in his case, Tongan) sidestep. He was offered a NFL tryout contract at one point, but playing for the All Blacks was his dream, and even though he could have made a fortune by switching (rugby was largely an amateur sport at that time) he followed his heart and stuck with rugby. RIP big guy. Truly a legend in the world of rugby.

You guys noted his stats that a lot of people miss. His height and weight with his speed stats…no one in NFL history has had those same stats in one package. But he also had skills to go with those stats and utilised them all when beating tacklers.

Auzy nazis if that isn’t the gods honest truth I don’t know what is! I live in Chicago, and the All Blacks were here to play and shoot a commercial. I was walking down the street, minding my own business when I, quite literally, bounced off one of their players. I wasn’t looking where I was going, in my own little world, and suddenly I was on my ass. Granted, I’m only 5’7” 110 lbs, but it was like walking in to a brick wall 😂. Most people, let alone star athletes, would be all uppity about bumping in to them, but this guy just laughed, helped me up and then asked if I was ok. Now I’m not one to get easily star struck, but having been a fan of the All Blacks, I damn near lost my ever loving mind and went bright red. Dude even gave me a big old bear hug after I apologized profusely for bumping in to him. He was so sweet about the whole thing. Made this little gals day that’s for sure!

Awesome video guys! In rugby they kick for goal after a try (5 points) for a extra 2 points, & if the opposing team commits a foul they can kick a "penalty" for 3 points. This is a video tribute to All Black Dan Carter who retired from International rugby in 2015. He played flyhalf or first five which is the closest thing to quarterback in rugby. He would often decide the plays or make it up as he went along & he was also a phenomenal goalkicker. kzread.info/dash/bejne/l56NpNxqmaSddbg.html

Great reaction vid fellas :) The one thing nobody ever talks about when it comes to Jonah Lomu was his balance. His ability to absorb the hits because of his awesome upper body strength, but then stay on his feet after bouncing off several tacklers without losing his power and pace was tremendously underrated. The only athlete I've ever seen that he could be compared to is Bo Jackson. Similar size, speed and power. Both were transcendent sportsmen.

Before Jonah appeared on the scene the general rule was that forwards were big but slow, the backs were small and fast. Jonah's position was wing (a back position). So being big and fast broke the rules. Now most backs (especially the outer backs) are in the Jonah mould and the forwards are now much faster (but still big).

@@TheInfinityzeN you're right. 1 second is a lot of time in a 100m sprint - but if Lomu had the exposure to state level sprint coaching and culture, then he would have adapted his body to be more lean. He was a tank so it's stupid to compare. 10.8 is serious wheels for his frame.
