Jon Sweet and Mark Toth - Washington Must Now Greenlight the Use of US-made Weapons to Strike Russia

Ukraine needs a game-changer. In fact, it needs two, argue Jon Sweet & Mark Toth in their latest article in The Hill. The first is Washington’s unequivocal greenlight to use US made weapons, and other western equipment, to strike Russian troops staging along its borders - especially those near the Kharkiv Oblast. Russia is using this US restriction as a way to plan and execute attacks against civilians and to launch new offensives. Secondly, Kyiv needs a no-fly zone, and fast.

I just do not see the point of restricting any use of any weapons that we provide to Ukraine to strike Russian territory. This is war, not a game of chess, and in my opinion there should be no restrictions whatsoever from any country providing them. We should all be asking ourselves how much we value our freedom and plan accordingly. Do you want freedom or do you want a government where freedom of speech is an outdated concept?

Late 1930s were the same. Politicians like Chamberlain chose to ignore the obvious trends in Hitler’s behaviour. Then far too slowly increased military strength. Today, Biden is causing escalation by not allowing a fight-back. Chamberlain made the exact same mistake in 1937. The unintentional consequence was Hitler attacking Western Europe. He had no intention, but the whole lot was effectively gifted to him.

Politics today always follows the line of least resistance. Margaret Thatcher, UK’s only true leader post WW2, was removed because she really was too good. UK is governed by managers. Chamberlain, Wilson, Heath, Major, Blair, Sunak. They are all the same. Incapable of strategic thinking.

Bunch of managers instead of leaders who want to take as little risk as possible in an attempt to maintain the status quo as opposed to leading into the future. The mind-boggling thing is how self-defeating it is. I can't think of much that would be more beneficial to democracy around the world, or in the U.S., or to Biden's standing for the upcoming election than helping Ukraine defeat Russia. Yet they just keep letting the snowball get bigger and bigger as it barrels toward us.

But if the West pretends away Eastern Europe and hopes Ukraine will just disappear, they are making the greatest geopolitical mistake of the century. Putin declared WAR ON THE WEST. By starting wars in as many Third World countries as possible, putin can keep the immigrants fleeing, desperate, hungry, violent, to Western Democratic borders. Risking their lives, and the lives of their children, these desperate refugees are weaponized to beg, borrow and coyote their way through every nook and cranny of any western immigration system to flee the violence of their home countries. All RUZZIA has to do is keep doing wars all over the planet, something it’s very, very good at. Russia even flies/buses the migrants by the thousands to western borders as an added incentive.

With regards to Putin's aggression and the West's ambiguous and ineffective response so far, I am reminded of Churchill's words when presented with the rise of Nazism, "We learn nothing from history. The endless repitition of castastrophes continues until we become victims. . . When the situation was manageable it was neglected, and now that it is thoroughly out of hand we apply too late the remedies which then might have effected a cure. . . It falls into that long, dismal catalog of the fruitlessness of experience and the confirmed unteachability of mankind."

I worry so much about this world. Not for myself, I'm too old to worry about living through it. However I have kids and grandkids who I do with about and the world they are inheriting. Our only hope is for Trump to be arrested and the Republicans to nominate Nikki Haley as the presidential candidate. Every time that Russia commits another war crime we need to call it out and add to Ukraine's capability. They seem to commit war crimes several times a day, so it won't take long and Ukraine will have quite the arsenal. Never forget all of the Russians who abused children and their families in Ukraine. From the mass graves (in Izium) to the stolen children. Now if Ukrainian parents don't become Russian citizens and go to flight against their brothers and cousins Russia will take their newborn children at birth. Speaking of Izium. What did those 414 people see? The Russians thought it was better to murder them and bury them all in a mass grave instead of letting them testify. Whatever they saw must have been truly horrific. If Russia want's to sign a treaty they must first prove they will stand by one. If Russia wants to negotiate, start with your original written agreement. Pull back all of their troops back behind their original boarder and then you can start negotiations. If they don't show they will honor the original agreement how can you expect them to honor any further agreements. It's our war to lose. Russia can NOT win. Unless we choose to not support Ukraine of course. It is on us in the global West to pick the world we want to live in. Choose wisely. Thanks. Glory to Ukraine. God Bless Ukraine and her people. 🇺🇦🇺🇸

I am so looking forward to this. Thanks to you and all channels who throw their weight behind the pressing issue before us. It makes a difference. Also, I don’t know if you have watched Jake Broe, a faithful advocate for Ukraine, who raised over a million dollars this month over a few days to buy specially outfitted trucks for Ukraine. Thank you, Jonathan.

After a 7 month wait for aid passage, how dare America make Ukraine sitting ducks! I'm an American and am furious!! I've been calling and writing my lawmakers. I will not vote for anyone who doesn't support Ukraine. Ukraine must be allowed to defend itself!

Every parent knows that children test limits, not because they are bad, they just need to know where the boundaries lie. If a parent fail to set boundaries the child gets confused and frustrated and start to behave bad. The parents here are EU and USA, and Russia is the child.

A few years ago I was fortunate to spend some time in Ukraine, specifically at a university in Zaporizhzhia. The people were warm, friendly, and proud of their country. One friend from that visit ends her messages to me by saying, "miss you, kiss you"! Older people in Ukraine looked beaten down and I could feel the tragedy of what Ukraine had been through in the past and the dismal juxtaposition of being pressed on two or more sides by Russia. It breaks my heart to see the death and destruction that they are enduring. It makes me so anxious and sad to see how our congress and administration have been holding back support. I really appreciate the analysis and support offered by Jon Sweet and Mark Toth. My congressmen has been supportive of Ukraine but I am going to share this video with them. I will also send this to Biden. I write letters but I am just one measly person without any power except to write. Thank you for for your exceptional discussion and decisive stand on the critical issues we are facing. I pray we will have the heart and courage to attack this problem with the necessary power and force.

Speaking of handling bullies, yes I guess we have very different times now, I recall in primary school I told my teacher I was being harassed by a bully, one year older and bigger than me. That teacher advised me that the next time it happened I should punch the guy in the stomach as hard as I can. I was not happy with that advice. But sure enough it came to pass and I did as advised. That bully and I got along very well in school for the next six years. That advice turned out to be good for me and good for the bully, who grew up to be an OK guy instead of escalating his bad behaviour. I guess that teacher would be fired if anyone found out what he advised today.

You did a good job of leading the conversation and letting your guests speak their opinion. Jon and Mark made many remarks that spoke truth to the power in US/UK/West as well as western society in general. Good episode.
