Fugazi ripped off quite a songs from Solid Gold era Gang of Four.

I started laughing when Jon King revealed the inner box with the "Entertainment" cover printed on it talking about cowboys and indians...I did not know that this picture found its way on a Gang of four album cover. For all people of John Kings generation in Germany it brings fond memories. It is a still from one of the "Winnetou" movies. That was the most successfull series in Germany during the Sixties. A kind of German Western Movies, even before the Italians started their Spaghetti Westerns. The photograph depicts the Apache chief "Winnetou" and his blood brother "Old Shatterhand" ,the main characters of most of these movies. Being European coproductions they were a refuge for older Hollywood actors like Lex Barker and Stewart Granger. I read that Quentin Tarantino got to know these movies while he was in Germany to make " Inglorious Basterds" and liked them so much that he was influenced by them when he created the Christoph Waltz character in "Django unchained". Just to add that cultural reference...

Purchased my CD copy on a whim due to this video and a few recommendations from a few other. Never heard them before. I've been listening to it since it arrived.

Pricey, agreed. But literally around the time you posted this it was on sale from evil empire for 30 bucks below list price. Still pricey but much more reasonable considering the book and extras. I'm thinking the high price will keep it available for longer than most collections and similar discount deals may be forthcoming from retailers and online sources. Keep a sharp eye out.

Wow what a tribute to a deserving band, whose legacy should live on. They definitely made the punk/new wave scene more interesting with their unique approach. Jon looks genuinely pleased with the whole thing and that is a great thing to see.

what fun! King looks great and the box set look great so sad that Andy Gill is no longer with us to share this

Entertainment is a special album. I lived in London in 81' and saw Andy at Speakers' Corner one time.

I bought the original US releases when they were released. The EP was called Another Day Another Dollar.

First gof i bought at the tender age of 15.

I was luck enough to get a copy of this. It's still in its shrink wrap. I don't have the heart to open it.

I am going to miss seeing their live shows

The first proper gig I went to was in 1981 - Gang Of Four in Zagreb, Croatia. At that time my country was part of Yugoslavia and Gang Of Four playing in Zagreb was the most relevant and most important gig of that decade for my generation. I was barely 15 years old

This is killer and I am going to buy it. But I just want to say, I love Songs of the Free (1982). It's more New Wave than Post-Punk, but is still experimental and singular Gang of Four. I suppose it's more sentimental for me as I grew up hearing I Love a Man In Uniform on the radio.

Definite version of the albums? Entertainment has the classic intro of "I Found That Essence Rare" cut off. Apparent band response. The original recorded version of Essence began with a hard start. The guitar intro was actually added later and put onto the front of the track. Hence it being on a separate master. The shorter version is a genuine and authentic version of how the song was originally recorded, and how it appears in the boxset. Hmmmm, as the band always played the intro live and on the demo I think not. It’s a seminal GOF moment. A glaring omission then, and for the price of the box I would have liked to have thought more care and attention would be given to at least Entertainment!

About time

Jon forgot to show the posters and replica files in thepocket of the books back cover! So there's still more to enjoy.

Does anyone know if the CD version of the box comes with the book also, or is it just the LP version? As usual, the record label isn't making that very clear on the Amazon page.

I don’t get it. If you get the cd box you don’t get the 26 never-before-issued outtakes, rarities and studio demos that are on the cassette?

the quality of these demos is rough and basic..mainly for completists..hence a quick facsimile rather than the re-mastered meisterworks....hope this helps

I am surprised by the commodity fetish in this.

But why just the first two albums? Most of us love Songs of The Free too.

I would love to have this, but no download for the cassette was a bad idea. You'll lose a lot of sales because of it including mine.

Odd that would be a deal breaker. A small amount of effort you could digitize it yourself / someone you know.

Fantastic package, and a good place to stop as it went wonky from the third album onwards, topped of course by the atrocious Hard LP. Yikes.

Wow remastering many re releases are not worth it. I am not even an audiophile u can tell
