I'm not sure why it always goes downhill Why broken cisterns never could stay filled I've spent ten years singing gravity away But the water keeps on falling from the sky And here tonight while the stars are blacking out With every hope and dream I've ever had in doubt I've spent ten years trying to sing these doubts away But the water keeps on falling from my eyes And heaven knows... heaven knows I tried to find a cure for the pain Oh my Lord, to suffer like you do... It would be a lie to run away So blood is fire pulsing through our veins We're either riders, or fools behind the reins I've spent ten years trying to sing it all away But the water keeps on falling from my tries And heaven knows... heaven knows I tried to find a cure for the pain Oh my Lord, to suffer like you do... It would be a lie to run away A lie to run It would be a lie It would be a lie to run away It keeps on falling It keeps on falling It keeps on falling It keeps on falling The water keeps on falling from my eyes And heaven knows... heaven knows I tried to find a cure for the pain Oh my Lord, to suffer like you do... It would be a lie to run away It would be a lie to run away It would be a lie to run away

There was a doc I watched about a boy in a concentration camp during WW2 who lost his entire family and would always pray for G-d to free him, and since then the boy never believed in G-d. I also spoke to a lady whose parents who were just children were Holocaust survivors who after people would ask them if they learned anything about that time. They would say nothing they can thing of. They both actually committed suicide.

Hey Jon! I know you will probably never read this, but I just wanted to thank you for all you've given through your life and music. I started listening to Switchfoot at 16, have so many great memories of the songs from Beautiful Letdown. Saw you guys live in Vancouver 2004. Now at 28, here I am listening to more great music you've made. It's been a comfort to me through a really tough time in my life. Thank you, you are appreciated!

Sometimes we need to face our pain and troubles head on and not run away, just as Jesus did. "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart." ~Hebrews 12:1-3

True, I've heard hardship is the pathway to peace. But going through...there are no words to describe the loneliness, sometime hopeless feeling. Even with the armor on, sometimes all we can do is stand firm and persevere. Trusting that He will eventually deliver us because that IS faith in the Word. "In quietness and trust is your strength..." Even so, it's extremely difficult. My heart goes out to all those in that place. I'm there. Eventually though, the fog will lift. God is Sovereign and He is good! And He will get the glory.

I love how John can get that balance of mainstream music with Chistian messages when he's the lead singer of Switchfoot, but then can fearlessly present himslef as the amazing Christian solo writer he is. Keep it up Jon, your music really is a gift from God :)

back to treatwmnt tomorrow. 18th one😢 wonder if its even worth getting hopeful of change anymore. Really jealous of folks that are free'd. I been fighting since 2008. Still cant seem to escape my pain. I trust Jesus and I know His Heavens know, and know my pain too. He knows suffering like me and I am honored to suffer even tho self inflictee but much ministry ahead as I clean up around the broke and hurting like me. I been so "under the influence" for the past 3 years I havent had a lot of hope to share but when i get clean i feel God again and His closeness and His love. Im blind and i cant wait to see!!! 16 years homeless, 8 behind bars in a gnarly place and all the mahem that comes with it. Pray for me pls. I need a new heart BAD THX

How does somebody withdraw the thing they love from what they need to keep them alive - but then the scales really DO come off and you wonder why you ever felt so ashamed. Jesus has a way of leading people away from the church that purports to be his and I hope that’s where he took you.
