My biggest problem with Indy was the timing of it all if they waited we probably could’ve gotten adult short round back which would’ve been amazing

With all due respect, the “WILL IT MAKE A BILLION DOLLARS?” conversation drives me nuts. I just want good films. Obsessing over opening weekend numbers etc is so unhealthy. All I want are good films. It’s gotten so bad that some feel a film isn’t worth making unless it can make a billion dollars. I hope I live long enough to see a world where that conversation no longer exists. Okay, I’ll shut up now.

One of the many problems with the Dial of Destiny, is that Indiana Jones was passive in his own movie, well, it was really Helena Shaw’s movie, dressed up to look like an Indiana Jones movie. Most Indiana Jones movies, he is hired to go find an historical artefact, but in this last one, she’s the one looking for it. Also, if you’re going to hijack a movie, at least make the new character likeable, or interesting. Helena was neither. She was a common thief.

I have to stick up for Indiana Jones. They definitely spent WAY too much and it speaks to mismanagement. However the movie ruled and deserved to make way more money than it did. And the ending scene was fantastic. I don’t know how you guys could’ve disliked it. Disney screwed up, but so did audiences.

“Bigger” also doesn’t justify the price of the movie. Even with the de-aging and even with the final time travel scene, there’s nothing there that shows why they spent so much money compared to other spectacle movies. Disney just clearly mismanaged the whole production.

I'm excited for Civil War, the movie. Alex Garland is a fantastic filmmaker. I hope his retirement from directing is brief.

The hope with Alex Garland saying what he did is that it's similar to Daniel Craig back in the day when talking about Bond and saying he'd rather piss glass, or whatever the expression was, and it's because he was exhausted after finishing it and people were already asking him about the next and I can understand how that would be aggravating. I saw reports that people kept asking him specifics about the movie and how CA and TX aligned and he's just like watch the damn movie. I have to think the further he gets out from the work and promo press the more he can decompress and get into a different headspace

Does it need to hit a billion? No it does not, the only thing important is a good movie.

The only thing I will say about Civil War is the notion of 'gubment evil/corrupt' and the 'noble rebellion' very much caters to a side and why I'm cautious.

I was already sold on Joker 2, but hearing its basically gonna be a Lady Gaga musical makes me even more excited for it!

I don’t know if I’m going to watch Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes but I’m going to observe how it does because the director Wes Ball is going to direct the live-action Legend of Zelda movie. If it does really well, then that’s great news for The Legend of Zelda.

I, for one, have gotten rid of Netflix and haven't felt like I've missed out. Especially when you have the lower ad plan, you can't even watch half of the movies on the platform!

I mean the whole entire cave collapses in an extended sequence at the end of Last Crusade. Indy doesn't just have a chat with an old guy and leave. Obviously it's not as big as the ending of Dial of Destiny but it's not tiny by 80s standards.

The original Indiana Jones movies were homages to 1930s adventure movie serials. "Crystal Skull" was an homage to 1950 sci-fi B-movies. "Dial of Destiny" wasn't an homage to anything. Also, Mads Mikkelsen's character died in a plane crash. Previous IJ villains had supernatural demises by the object they sought. Lucasfilm's focus was on relaunching Star Wars first, but I'm sure they were also thinking about Indiana Jones too. The fifth movie was officially announced in March 2016 and released in 2023. They had seven years of official development, eleven years of unofficial development, the final product should have been much better than it ended up being. And that's the same with many other recent movies (e.g. Black Adam) where they spend many years in development before actually being made, and then instead of being good, they're mediocre.

I think at this point Disney and Lucasfilm have yet to learn their lessons judging by the fact that Kennedy is still there. I think she had more than enough chances, with some successes, but when your success rate is hovering around 50% that's not enough to keep your job because the longer someone like that stays in charge the more you alienate your audience and less likely you are to get them back

In Civil War, the alliance between California and Texas could be because both states have the largest GDP. It would be more economical than political.

Going to be a hard pass for me on Joker 2. I saw the first one and it’s not a rewatchable movie for me.

Interesting so another conversation asking if a movie is going to make a billion dollars and then I’m here to ask why we always ask this question and ask why does a movie have to make a billion dollars to be considered successful. Then someone is going to say it doesn’t yet every time a big movie is coming out you guys always ask if the movie is going to make a billion dollars. To those in the comments mad about the Silver Surfer news. Stop. Actually read the article. Shes not playing Norid. Shes playing Shalla-Bal. His love interest. That should tell you that they may have Norid as well. Stop making things politcal and just judge the thing for what it is. Not assume the worst and score brownie points in your echochamber. I think reasonable fans should be hype about this. Shes an incredible actress and bring something really neat to the character.

The marvels wasn’t contained? It was a world ending plot with multiverse nonsense at the end. I don’t think anyone would be against the marvels being smaller

Well maybe not directly, but it's likely people here enjoy the cinematic adventures of the wall crawler. Just doing a PSA that all 8 of the live action movies are being re- released, 1 movie per week, only on Mondays (although some theaters might extend it to other days too), starting April 15th. I think we all knew Joker 2 would be R-rated. That wasn't a surprise. I don't think it'll hit a billion this time, but it'll definitely crush. To correct Kris on one thing, Suicide Squad actually did show the manipulation of Harley Quinn before she fell into whatever that thing was with all the colors. It wasn't much, but it was there. As for Disney losing money on Indy 5, I would say they lost even more when you factor all the money they spend on movies they put straight to streaming instead of theaters. Still, for Indy alone, spending nearly $400 million on it is absurd beyond belief. As for Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes, it's one of my most anticipated movies of the summer and that report got me even more hyped. I'm glad we have a conformation of when it takes place. I've been wondering that for a while. I hope the opening weekend is bigger than projected, but over $50 million is still a decent start. And having a few DC movies on Disney+ is certainly weird, but it makes sense. I actually do think we'll get a Marvel and DC crossover project at some point. It won't be for a while, but it's inevitable and I'm all for it. And you should have Kris Carr on more often.

One you go big you've got to go bigger or it won't work. Everything has to be end game level not cheese on toast like driving a Ferrari then getting into a BMW you wouldn't do it. Except for shan chi it's not been world class. The marvels was good but not epic but they are trying to hard to make it into a criteria. The Cgi on the main bad guys in kong x godzilla is awfull in parts. Good movie 🎬

@@darnell9806 Of course it matters cos even if it grosses $1bn (not guaranteed), its profitability will be substantially less given that the movie cost 3x as much as the 1st one. I'm going to go ahead and assume you know nothing about finance if you think increasing the budget by over $130m to account for 'salaries' is a smart thing to do.
