This guy made a DVD which should be bought by every drummer in the world , it's litterally a bible of how to use the stick at their full potential and your body in a way that is energy efficient. Truely my favorite drummer out there.
I like how electronic music basically came from either sampled drumsounds or analog drum sounds and now gets reintroduced into actual acoustic drums again:P

...while imitating drum machines, which are imitating live kit...confusing lol
Just an absolute master. One of my favorite living drummers and definitely the most creative.
I think his kick sound is the best thing in this video.
You could give Jojo a cucumber and he'd make it sound good.

he might as well be a cucumber, you just can't fuck with this guy. he could just take a couple of blenders, a cucumber, and a kit...and still hurt your brain.

I disagree. I don't think he has the lungs to make much of a cucumbist.

fuck yeah )
Wow. Playing aside, he really has figured out how to make an acoustic kit sound "digital." That kick sound is spot on!
a lot of people don't know just how solid and groundbreaking Jojo's technique actually is.
As a bassist, I love these videos! Jojo Mayer has so much to offer outside to people! I have to say though... John Davis needs to drop some Textural Technique videos for bass!
He has such a nice setup, everything compliments sonically and to my ears sounds perfect for what he does. He's raised the bar even higher here. JoJo I salute you! Thankyou.
Texture and palette, not something a lot of people talk about these days, but I feel as though these are just as if not more important than hand technique or learning the latest lick. People like Jojo and Chris Dave and Mark Guiliana who have this shit down and are in a constant mindset of changing and improving it, these guys are the real deal.
Ever Evolving Drumset Genius. There's no better way to sell your Products, Vic Firth! Epic awesomeness.
Has just become one of my new favorite drummers.
That songs freakin me out. I think i almost astral projected.

I love this :) The bass line reminds me of the space invaders game as a kid getting closer and closer to the bottom of the screen!
Absolutely right ! I was wondering about the sense of this comment, because this is really easy stuff in relation to the compley drumming mister mayer is doing ...

Lars Ulrich and 8 of his friends don't like this video...

Why would Lars be even watching this video. He is a rock banger and I think he said" I never said that." We ALL have styles we like and don't like. I certainly would not watch a heavy rock video just to send HATE com. I respect all.

magic!
daaaaaaaamn your band is so cooooooool :D
Bellissimo!!!!!!
Yup! He's been on Evans for almost three years now.
Just listen to it!
I love it whem jojo plays a "simple beat"
I hope Vic Firth has made enough dreadlocks to meet the onslaught of demand from this. Awesome job Jojo and Nerve!
The drealocks sound way to high pitched when I use them, but Jojo can make them sound wonderful on his drum kit. How does he do it?
Jojo is fundamental stone for all the drummers of today, and another thing he is historian or the drums (the double pedal commemoration in his performance on modern drummer and now another reference) thats dedication and constant 'outside of the box' thinking. check his work on janek gvizdala and try to emulate.
数年ぶりに観たけど、かっこよすぎるよ・・・
Dope
jojo your a MASTER
good old days when takuya was still part of it
Jojo nice brushes tough.. greetings from Basel, Switzerland
Too COOOLLL!!!!
JOJO !!!
The master! The keys and bass could have been mixed better though during the band parts.
Jojo is far beyond any physical rule.
I like it
09:08 - 09:24 Loved that part!
I see a lot of drummers trying to make obscure sound with their drums and most of the time it just makes me cringe. Why is it Jojo can apply this stuff just so much better than everyone else? He always makes this stuff sound amazing!
Respect Mayer!! (y)
Jajaja, "simple beat".

that basedrum sound!!
finesssse. This is how I like to play. Fuck 32nd note solos
@subwoofer6726
6 жыл бұрын
And fuck your way of playing; simply put that statement works both ways. If I or anyone wants to play "32nd note solos" then that's our business and we're not really concerned with if you like it or not. Most of the time, it's getting camera, studio, and stage/audience time much to many people's biased egotistical begrudgement who can't get past the Buddy Rich years of drumming for the sake of pleasing a dead audience.
thats for sure --they really got the US drummers beat hands down. this guy is the leader in avant guard.
such a boss.
I want those dreadlock brushes!
Anyone one knows the title of the song he's playing with the band at the end?
can someone please check out 7:22 and tell me what pedals john is using!!!
Is that the same kit he was playing in the 1998 performance?
i love playing with dreads. there so much fun
His second snare! How does he get that sound?
FIRST JOJO THE BEST¡¡¡
what kit is this ? sonor designer ?
anyone know the name of the intro song? or all the songs for that matter?
