Jojo Mayer and Nerve | Live at Rocks Off! NYC
Музыка
For those of you who haven't heard of Jojo Mayer and Nerve, especially drummers and electronic music aficionados, this is going to be a special treat.
Nerve is a pioneering live electronica band lead by legendary New York Based Swiss drummer Jojo Mayer. Evolving out of his popular Prohibited Beatz parties in the late 90's, the band performs live and often improvised electronic music using instruments combined with electronic manipulation to produce fun yet complex futuristic sounds
Nerve consists of Jojo Mayer (Drums), John Davis (Bass & Low end manipulation), Jacob Bergson (Synths/Keys) and Aaron Nevezie (sound and real time sound deconstruction).
They experiment within lots of different sub-genre's of electronic music including jungle, dub, dubstep, glitch, tech house and everything in between, while bringing in their own jazzy improvisational twists into the mix.
Considering that the band has been around since the 90's, they truly were ahead of their time. But with explosion of electronic music and a general shift towards all things digital, it seems like the time is right for a band like Nerve to hit the limelight again and bring a breathe of fresh air to the heavily saturated world of electronic music.
All in all, Nerve is just a cool ass band that blew our minds when we first saw a show. We've now been to several shows in NYC, and honestly, each one has been a unique experience. They're constantly pushing boundaries and experimenting with new sounds, which is a pleasure to experience.
This show took place on a boat for the Rocks Off! concert series in NYC.
And a pro-tip, if you're looking for a drummer for your band, head to one of their shows and you'll be able to fill your entire rolodex ;)
Thank you Rocks Off! and Nerve for bringing us on board!
Oh and they recently released a new video EP, be sure to check it out. Here is a link to the trailer: • Nerve- Video EP Trailer 2

Jojo Mayer simply replaced drum machines, samplers and bassline VSTs with real instruments and made it more organic. Genius.

He triggers his kicks and is using an electronic pad... so, not really.
Don't think I could sit that close to Jojo without fanboy(ing) the fuck out. OMG.
I still love his drumming and his deep interest in "new"

I was wondering about that too.. maybe he's there to quickly fix any problems with Jojo's gear? And got an awesome vip seat at the same time? :)

Выздоравливай!
I started listening in at around 2:30 and it reminds me so much of game I played when I was a kid called incoming. The game has to be close to 20 years old.

No, no, no. This is groundbreaking, cutting edge stuff. In fact this is ahead of it's time even now ;)
I see he's described as "Jungle" in Wikipedia - probably because of the fairly funk type of groove he goes for. I think of his drumming as more like "Time Machine". He shows how time can be split up, accented, and put back together with the precision of an atomic clock.
HOW DID I MISS THIS

Зато какой приятный сюрприз!
Great to see everybody dancing and having a good time. Not just chin strokers with no knowledge of jungle music listening to a poorly executed, rehearsed jazz improv. Great stuff. Great, great stuff. Pat on the back to all involved and the 50'000 people that watched it on a channel with 248 subscribers. Great, great stuff. Great.

Is there a footage of "Ghosts of Tomorrow" from this set? It was just marvelous!

Ahh sorry unfortunately we don't have any footage of that .. we filmed only about the first 20-ish minutes of the set .. and they performed Ghosts of Tomorrow right after we turned off our cameras :( ... in any case we will probably put out a Part 2 of this set in the near future which will feature the following 10mins.

None of the below. It is a electronic pad sitting on top of the snare. Usually he has a mute of the head and not that.

Jojo Mayer is on another level, impressive & inspiring for any drummer. Still, the thing is: as artistically elaborate this is, in the end its "musicians-music". Music for music equip, ent fairs & conventions. For example, If you ask people who are into Dn'B, Breakbeats - no one will mention Jojo Mayer/Nerve (and not because they have bad taste/little knowledge).
05:04 HOW did he manage to make a Rev2 sound so shit?!

By getting an actual gig instead of commenting on one.... You realize sound is subjective? .. right?
I’d love think this was cool or interesting or clever or something.
I would have to tell that guy to move away a bit. I love fans but damn.
What's lacking is a real jazz soloist to make this something special ? Other than bla bla...

SuperQdaddy This isn’t Jazz, jazz is simply one of the underlying components of their act Drum n Bass is supposed to be about entrancing rhythm, grooves accompanied by layered synths
Definitely not his best stuff, somethings wrong.

Maybe he was seasick. Seems like a strange Idea to play on a boat just for the sake of playing on a boat.
Why is the tech sat there? Looks awful...and gives it a rehearsal feel. And also, dude on the synths....play something inspiring and musical will ya ffs. He's being carried by Jojo and the bassist as per.

Very atmospheric but no hooks regarding melody and interesting modulation.
God damn this musical style has gotten old already. This shit happened in the 90's mainly and this group seems to think they are on the cutting edge or something. That keyboard intro at 5:05 is VERY awkward and tired sounding.
