Today I visited my local Mennonite church for the first time on a whim. I’ve been veering towards anabaptist theology in my own beliefs and decided that today was as good a day as any to try it out! I walked in and panicked because I felt out of place, but I waved someone down and she kindly offered to sit with me, got the hymns out for me, and gave me a brief idea of what to expect! She was so genuinely kind and I enjoyed every aspect of the service. I will most definitely be returning in the future and I’m so grateful for videos like yours that help me to gain more knowledge on the days after Sunday!

Run from the Mennonite religion and find a true and enriching relationship with The Lord Jesus Christ in a Baptist, Southern Baptist, or even Presbyterian church (PCA). Mennoniteism teaches unbiblical, legalistic heresy to its followers!

The aspect of community is missing in non-anabaptist / mainstream Christianity and it’s honestly such a loss. It’s something I’ve always longed for and I think deep down most people do if they would stop to identify it within themselves… but I think it would require us to give up a lot of our individualism - which would not be a bad thing. I pray one day we will find community. Thanks for sharing.

God is so loving and kind. He took care of me when my first and second husband had affairs with other women and we divorced. I am now married to a wonderful man that God gave to me. He's a Christian and loves God. I am not condemned of the Lord. We put God first in our life.

Coming from the amish community, there was so much emphasis and efforts put into enforcing dress codes and rules, that the heart matters and most importantly, Jesus as the center of the church was sometimes forgotten. For these reasons and many others we felt led to leave the culture and church, for this we are shunned and no longer get to see our families. I pray that God can open their eyes and soften their hearts, so they may know true salvation!

I'm really sorry to hear That. Yes, the Amish practice shunning which is so sad... I hope so badly you can restore relationships with them. It has to be extremely difficult for you to walk away from family and friends knowing that it would severe ties. I know if another family that left the Amish to join my sisters church... and they, too were shunned.

@@BH-si7ru They do not all shun like the Amish do,though. However,a lot of the conservative ones will "shun" or at least look down upon anyone going to like a Baptist,Penocostal,Bible church etc.a lot because often the women won't wear the piece of cloth on their heads(I do not call it a headcovering, because hardly ANY mennonite covers their head. They say it is only a symbol, which isnt biblical.),however our belief is what the bible says..Our hair is given for a covering,so no need for an extra covering.

I finally got a chance to listen to this and a huge THANKS for tackling this subject. As a Mennonite myself, I feel that y'all are very accurate. And it just blessed me to hear that y'all want to be a part of the revival or renewal movement that is happening. My husband and I are there, too. There is too much value in our heritage to throw out everything.

Thank you for your answer to my comment. There are so many things you believe and the way you do things that I was brought up with. I love all your Videos and the way you are bringing up your Son. He is such a thoughtful, kind and loving child. I learned to cook from Scratch, my Father built our house, so did one of my brothers build his home. We were brought up in a very close family knit. Holidays at Grandma's on a different island where for many many years no electricity, no running water. However, there was a day that was the Lord's day. That was a day reserved for him and meals were prepared the day before and the day was a day of worship. I loved those days, after church we had to go and visit Aunt's and Uncles spend time with them. It was considered respectful to do that. Helping people who needed help was just a way if Life. I have continued to do that and I look at it as a Blessing to be able to help people. I make my own clothes because I have a problem with some if the fashions if today. Most are not me. I am having a problem trying to buy clothes as now the Arthritis is in my hands. I also do not believe in excess amounts of clothes. I made all my Grandchildren clothes when they were growing up also madeall my son's clothes because I did not want him to get involved in the clothing fashion and Designer Stuff. I like Simplicity. At my church before Covid, in Toronto, I always every Sunday after church I made a nice snack to go with coffee. However, some people were not nice about it. They made remarks like, you are trying to feed the five thousand, little kinds of remarks. I did not stop though. Our Congregation was a lot if Seniors and I felt like it was good to stay on after and get a chance to fellowship with each other because through that you could learn who needed help or just to talk. My Mom and Dad had a Life if service and it really is a wonderful to do that. To mention Carriages, I see nothing wrong with that either. Carriages have been around from beginning. I have travelled and seen all kinds of transport. Growing up there were Horses and Donkeys and Mules.bi saw people using Carts. As a little girl I loved it when my Mom would take us into town in a Carriage. Mom had a Car but Dad used a lBicycle. At my Grandparents they had a Truck but we were encourages to Walk which was fun for me. Sometimes when you talk I wish I could just have a conversation with you. I come from a Christian family but we were though not to condemn the way other people worship. You had a Christmas Story for your Son and that was priceless. Have a great weekend. Blessings.

Thank you for your openness in sharing! I really appreciate your perspective on this, and willingness to share both pros and cons. I grew up in a conservative Christian family with values similar to those of the Mennonites even though we were not Mennonites. Growing up, I had several encounters with Mennonites - some positive and some negative. Some I met were strong Christians, and I was touched by the passion in their marriages as well as their strong dedication to the Lord. However, others seemed to be confused on the gospel. Their rules had become mixed up with gospel to the point that it seemed like they were saying the way to heaven was to live the Mennonite lifestyle. Regardless of the lifestyle we live, salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone!

Thank you for giving so much of your time to share all this! I am a Mennonite and I attend a Brethren Church which I suppose isn't very high on the conservative scale! However, I truly appreciate where you and Nolan are coming from and I often wish we had a church nearby that upheld more of the conservative values, community and life style. Our children attend a private Christian school, but both my husband and I teach in public schools. Ironic, I know. We feel there is so much need for light in the public system (especially these days) and while we can't preach God vocally, we can certainly be His light and love to our students and fellow staff. I really enjoyed your video and felt like I was sitting at the other side of your kitchen table!

Thank you so much for explaining this. I live in Ontario, Canada and we have such a wide variety of groups. Some are horse and buggy and wear black only, for women, men white shirts and black pants. Then others the only way I can identify them as Mennonite’s, is by the dresses and head covers. I always wondered how there could be such a difference. I now have a better understanding. The one thing that seems consistent, among all the groups, is a sense of community.

This was excellent and very enlightening on the runnings of the Mennonite community. You hit the nail on the head when you talked about the heart. Some people attend church their whole life and believe themselves to be a Christian, when all that being a Christian is is attending church Sunday morning. Their hearts need to be changed. There are many churches who have caved to society and the only representation of Christ is perhaps the church's name. In the Old Testament it talks about moving the landmarks and not to because it brings about death. When society moves the landmarks it also brings about death. Your peek into the Mennonite community has refreshed me! While I know that people masquerade around "in the name of" Jesus and are detrimental, the steadfastness is a wonderful thing. 😊

Thank you for doing this video. As an independent baptist, there are, obviously, many similarities between your church and mine. Along with many variations between other independent baptist churches. Of course we all get "lumped" into the same category, especially when something negative happens in another church. Anyway, I enjoyed hearing more about the Mennonite church.

I don't suppose you could explain some of the differences, could you? Outside the pacifism, I'm unsure the differences between the two.

When JESUS calls us to follow him and the gospel message. This statement to me is the one ALL believers ought to focus on. In reading the Holy Word I have the understanding that there will be No denominations in HEAVEN. Thank you for swapping out the squeaky chair. All believers ought not conform to the world. Reading the Holy Word is a guide book on how we ought to live. Believers in Christ = joint heirs with Christ. I like a simple way of life. Very helpful.

please do some research and connect with a Bible believing church -- one advantage of those that are streaming services -- you can check them out first before stepping inside the building! Just make sure they teach the Bible and are not a 'feel good ' church (where they just mention the good and nothing for learning or correction) . And there is no perfect church! It is a group of sinners saved by grace!

I was happy to receive it he information. Many of your Traditions and Cultural aspects I can relate to. I was brought up in a very strict household. Many times friends have said I must be Mennonite other called Old Fashioned. As a younger person in my teen we were not allowed to do all the things or any if the things other kids did. I was teased and called selfish. I went to Priva School wore the same as everyone else everyday, work later in life was the same we all wire the same thing. Did not bother me. Break the Code if Dress and it had consequences. That is life and if you choose to be in those places then you cannot or want to change the rules. My Grandchildren are all Homeschooled. Several weeks innzpublic School and it was decided by their Parents that was not what they wanted for them. my Grandparents had a Farm and all Unts and Uncles had animals and they lived on an Island where I hey had to supply their needs because the mail boat only came once a week and sometimes Weather prevented that. I agree with you totally on Violence. There are so many many thing geared today toward violence as the answer . I admire your lifestyle. Thank you for sharing.

As always I enjoy your videos! . Especially loved the outtakes! For those who may be looking, I find that there are other conservative Protestant groups that are very similar in beliefs and doctrine, if someone is on here and can’t quite find a church in your area that is Mennonite, I have found some German baptist, brethren churches or also Wesleyan Methodist or pilgrim holiness churches who share some of the core beliefs. Not to be confused with the more liberal Wesleyan church, which it separated from about the 1950s. Of course the Wesleyan Methodist etc churches sometimes don’t share the headcovering belief and may have piano music, they do share the same core conservative Bible believing theology otherwise. I have attended both types of churches and define myself as a Wesleyan Methodist who believes in the prayer veil, and not going to war. Sometimes it is very hard to find a good local church; sometimes our humanity gets in the way, as is appropriately described in this video. My advice is just remember we are not following a particular pastor or teacher, we are following the Bible, and with that in mind, I can find myself at home in a number of churches. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

I really resonated with the part about living in a modest way. I'm not from a faith that has head coverings or modest clothing BUT I believe in acting and speaking in a modest way. That was really awesome ☺️ You and your family are often in my prayers. Good to see you both looking so happy and healthy. Take care and thank you ❤️

You've both been very eloquent and informative as well as honest......it hard I think to explain a religion in an understandable way if your brought up in it as you know, for want of a better term, 'the rules', its how You've been brought up and you just 'get' it. I think a lot of people are looking for 'something' but aren't sure what that something is..... No faith is perfect nor are those who practise it but we all try our best and are perfectly imperfect......all we can do is our best...... Blessing to you all and thank you both for this vlog......

You two seem like some really sweet and kind people. I've been wanting to get out of Los Angles for a while now and have been recently considering adopting a Mennonite lifestyle. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video and discuss the pros and cons involved and listing resources where I could get more information. Thank you very much. God willing, I'll find a nice community and a nice Mennonite woman who will want to marry me as well. Please say a prayer for me, if you will. God bless you both and all those in your community. You're clearly doing God's work.
