    Good advice! To add, when a disaster such as a hurricane strikes, you will get pulled out your class as a guardsman. The reservist will be checking in with his unit just by using a website. Did both and the Reserves is, by far, a better opportunity for all career progressions.

    I served 7 years in the guard and was never activated for state duty. Plus in my state NJ, tuition is waived for guardsmen at state colleges. Much better than the 4500 tuition assistance you get in the reserves. As for promotion, the reserves is nice because your not bound by your state. However, some guard units and MOSs have wide open promotion potential.

    Hi Jason, thanks for making these videos, I got a question about the annual tour part of being a reservist or guardsmen. If a reservist is a student in a program that has summer classes will the reserves or guard work with them on finding the best time to go on the annual tour, or will the reservist have to forego summer classes if it clashes with the unit's annual tour?

    The military brass quietly imposed a regulation denying increased educational benefits, under the post 9-11 GI Bill in 2012., for Guard and Reserve members called up. Before then, anyone deployed as short as 3 months (other than Initial Active Duty for Training) qualified for some Post 9-11 benefits. For example 3 months was 40% of tuition, and housing allowance. Not any more, unless legislation now pending in congress corrects this. Anyone considering joining the Reserves or Guard needs to seriously reconsider. Going to college while in the USAR they will pay the tuition but the ARNG gives you a waiver for both tuition and fees as well as a monthly pay for books or do whatever the hell you want with it it's america. one thing to keep in mind that my boy up there forget to mention as well is that the ARNG benefits are not the same in every states while the USAR it's the same thing everywhere you go.

    First of all, the Army Reserves National Guard "ARNG" 2 days drill weekend in the month are Saturday and Sunday which definitely is going to be in your state meaning the Thursday Friday is straight up "BS" but the 2 weeks over the summer, is not always in your state and yes sometimes you might be out for 3 to 4 weeks not it not really depends on your unit but mostly on what types of drill they're doing, and it also happen in USAR, 2nd thing to take in consideration is the fact that the Army Reserves doesn't have combat MOS while the ARNG does. 3rd if you contact your unit prior to drill weekend you can make it before or after that weekend as long as you have a valid rational let's you have finals, or funeral etc they will let u make it up but say you have have an Xbox competition with your friends that's not a valid reason for missing drill.

    One thing you don't get down is that E4 "Corporal" to an E8 bring a lot of responsibilities, If I'm not wrong you're a SSG and correct me if wrong. at this point you have brand new PVT looking up to you, you're probably a team leader as of right now. meaning you have a lot of detail to take care of prior to drill. and once again it's all based on your unit/company, MOS as well as types of drill. ***a quick note*** I don't really care about his/her branche someone or his/her MOS since they are taking female in combat mos now I don't care if he/she is a POG or a Grunt since you're in the military I look at you as my big/little brother/sister.

  • @TheJasonYamamoto

    @TheJasonYamamoto

    8 жыл бұрын

    TA pays you $4500 per year in courses. Most colleges will give you a military discount on top of that. The money will go straight to the school but you have to pass your class with a C or higher or they'll stop paying for your college. You can apply a pell grant and receive about $4000-6000 per year. With your minimal pay in the reserves, $200-300 per month for drill dates and $1400 per annual training. You'll make about $5,240 per year total. 5240 + 4000 or 6000, you'll make about 9240 to 11240 per year. That's about $936 per month. Pretty simple for a single person to live off of and that's IF you don't have a part time job. I think that's pretty good gig in my opinion and literally 1/4 of the bullshit. Now if you want to go active duty for 3 years and get the full GI bill and stop there, the GI Bill will cover your school and books and then you can pursue your bachelors degree without any distractions. It really all depends on what YOU want and how much you're willing to go through the BS.

    As long as you are in good standing with your unit, you go to an accredited school and your courses go towards your degree program. However, if you are a medical school students stop right there.... CONTACT A MEDICAL CORPS RECRUITER! The Army has special programs just for medical corps that are very good and very different. Also if the Army Medical Corps recruiter doesn't tell you everything you want to hear my best advice is that before you sign in... GO TO EVERY BRANCH RECRUITER FOR MEDICAL CORPS. Medical corps are different and in very high demand in every branch. You might get more from another branch but go for the one that pays you the more towards your medical degree.In every branch, physicians have it differently than the rest of the force... that's a fact. I worked in a medical command not been a medical corps officer and I cant tell you from experience is a different set of rules for them specially if you are a physician, LOL!

    here’s the way my recruiters put it. if you join the Army Reserves you can choose whatever college you want to go too (as long as you get accepted i think)... and they would pay for it. with the reserves you have to show up to your unit once or twice a month so you have to choose a unit close or near enough to the college you’re going to.

    +Strength Over Benches (SOB) heyyy im really confuse and idk what choose. I'm thinking of joining the army but it's either reserve or ng. I heard that reserve doesn't have benefits like ng does and another i heard that ng is wack and they don't pay for your school. I already talked to two recruiters. one was a ng recruiter and the other was us army recruiter. the is army recruiter is pushing me to go actuve duty in the army, and the other recruiter is telling to join ng becuase they help you alot in college and good benefits. I would go active duty but I have a son and I don't want to be away from him. the us army recruiter tells that he knows alot of ng people that regret going wants to go in the us army. I'm really confuse right now. if the reserve is better for me and has way better benefits for me and my son i would join the army. I want to be a NYPD officer please help me. I need to know what's right for me before I take the asvab either this week that's coming or the following week.

    if you want to be a NYPD officer, you'll need to take their test and practice their written test. Army will pay for your training for military schools. If you want to go to police academy, then you should do 3 years in active duty and then get your college benefits, then get out of the army, apply for police academy with you GI bill benefits, and then apply to a police department.

    Dude you make no sense. First I was in both the Guard and Reserve. The Guard has the most benefits for college tuition. The Guard you get can 100 percent tuition depending on state (waived fee), 4,500 Federal TA, 372 GI Bill Stipend, and 350 kicker. The Reserves you only get up to 4,500 per year towards your college, 372 GI Bill, and 350 Kicker. Note in the Reserves you can't collect both the Federal TA and stipends. Its one or the other, please explain that? With the Reserves as well if you fail a class you have to pay back your money for college. The Guard does not always to 3 or 4 day weekends, if they did, they are flexible enough to let you split to make up a drill date so you don't miss class. Overall, you need to do more research when making your claims. Statistically, your are more than likely to come out with student loans vs the Guard. Also, with the Reserve you have no say in your stationed unit. So if I wanted to be near my school of choice I would have a better opportunity with the Guard because they are larger and have more units per state. The Guard also has combat arms which the Reserves do not.

    Also, annual training is always in the summer time for all part-time branches. If a unit is getting ready to mobilize then yes they will do training during the school year hence the three weeks. And a school cannot kick you out for missing class for a military function you goof.

It's called unfair! Army should be sued! Benefits need to be a lot better. I condemn the Army for a lot of miskept promises they told me. Now I'm too old to be thinking of college, I need to find the quickest route to retirement security.
