UFC 171: Hendricks vs. Lawler was a mixed martial arts event that was held on March 15, 2014, at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
The event was released on DVD on June 17, 2014. The DVD was distributed by Anchor Bay Entertainment.
A UFC Welterweight Championship bout between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler for the vacant title headlined the event.
On December 13, 2013, news came that Georges St-Pierre would be taking an indefinite break from MMA and vacating his belt. Following this report, Dana White announced that Hendricks would be facing Robbie Lawler on March 15, 2014, at UFC 171 for the vacant UFC Welterweight Championship. Hendricks won the back-and-forth fight via unanimous decision. The bout also earned him his third consecutive Fight of the Night bonus award. Hendricks underwent surgery to repair a torn bicep that he sustained prior to his fight with Lawler. He returned to training in May 2014.

sometimes what precedes a slide/fall is loss-of-confidence, Johnny's confidence mighta gone South. Means everything. In cases I've studied it's not just one thing - but a series-of-things (that only insiders know about).

What an underrated fight and always better than the second fight
Robbie Lawler is an absolute dog! If you watched all this in slow motion you would see the Parrys the slips the rolls the blocks all the aggressive defense simply beautiful all whilst pressing forward and smiling. I believe Robbie Lawler took way less damage in this one.

Lawler had 4 insane wars. He is such an animal. And roid Johny was one of the most entertaining welterweight of his era.
Far more entertaining than 90% of today's matches.

@@HunterJs2 Mention them then, i don't think this year has been that great regarding fights. Only one that comes to mind is Jiri vs Glover and that was waaay lower level striking than this plus Glover is old and past prime not two prime guys like here

Johnny could have avoided a ton of punishment in that fight and all his career actually, if he just used some head movement. That fight sapped a lot from his soul i reckon, even though he won the fight.
Wow close fight! Hendricks suffered most of the damage but he made points near the end. Very close fight!
Couple of really Bad Dudes. Summoning the Magic up. ---yet once again. So much Respect for these two.
Such a good matchup
This was quite the unusual, but very entertaining fight. Johny coming in with a dutch kickboxing style and the both of them engaging in some weird close range hand fighting too.
Pre USADA Johnny was something special!

Johnny Hendricks is criminally underrated, nobody even mentions him amongst great welterweights today, I remember he was sending guys into oblivion with his left hand, one of the hardest punchers in MMA history for sure....and had a couple of wars as well.

Robbie Lawler got robbed for losing the fight. In my opinion, clearly all four rounds were from Rob.
hendrixs nose was never the same.
yeah I know robbie still can gets knocked out but still..... prime young robbie really can take a beating and fires back with even more bigger shots
