Celine and Lara: Lara was identified as the next big vocalist by Sony, on the same tier as Whitney, Celine and Mariah. They started to promote her as such in the US and it scared Rene Angelil, Celine’s husband and producer, who already experienced the fame rising of Lara in their homeland Quebec. He wanted to avoid similar competition in the US. So he used his huge political influence with Sony to force them to stop promoting her at least in the ballad domain. Sony tried thus to move Lara to pop dance path, she had big success (“I will love again” became #1 in pop dance US billboards and stayed first during 58 weeks) . But Lara was not pleased with this, they had a dispute about this and she left the US scene where she was contractually hand-tied to Sony. Lara has always been a fan of Celine, naming her as an inspiration. She would have loved to sing in duet with her. Rumors say Celine is very very jealous about Lara and always decline to appear with her in shows. In an interview Lara said that Celine has denied these rumors to her directly, backstage, in the only event they met in person.

Now Celine can't sing anymore do to her illness. Karma teaches a lesson. Better learn it the first time. Never liked hearing Celine sing. She showed fake emotion.

Johnny Hallyday is a legend in France. He died in 2017, cancer, but we still miss him very much :(

Johnny loved Lara because he felt she was the female version of himself! I got into Johnny after seeing this video. Check out his duet with Jean Jacques Goldman from 9/11/98 concert (I gave you the link to Johnny and Lara’s performance from that date) J’la croise tous les matins. Jean Jacques wrote the song and he plays a mean guitar! Johnny did a duet in English with Kathy Mattea that is off the album he did in English.

Celine won the Eurovision contest over Lara. That would be the reference to “beating her”. There is another issue that was due to Sony and Celine’s management who played a large role in Lara’s career not taking off in the US. They wanted Lara to do more dance pop so Celine could do the big ballads that they both excel at.

Celine won euro visión because Tony Mottola wanted it (Sony music president) Then Tony Mottola and other people showed up when Lara was recording Adagio in the states.. They saw her and how great she was, so they did everything to bann and blackout her in the USA music market, because they did realize that was dangerous for Celine ' career ( Tony Mottola is not a stupid , he knows exactly how to recognize a great singer and Lara was a big threat for Celine) and that's why Lara moved to other markets.. Where of course she became a idol because she is so great. Celine is an amazing singer, but as technique, breath control, dynamic, resonance, passion and interpretation Lara is another level. Celine is not well trained as Lara , she did abuse a lot of her voice, and she did experience a lot of problems at her vocal cords and had to stop singing for while. Something that never happened to Lara instead, because till now that she is 53 years old she still takes singing lesson and her technique and skill absolutely better than Celine did prevent her from throat illness. Celine is more present of music market, but we know exactly how the music market works. And look what happened now.. Celine has a lot of health problems ( unfortunately) she is paying the price of music labels that wanted to squeeze her out to make money.. Lara is still active and was more wise.. She didn't want to fall in Producer' trap and wisely choosed wich one to work with, always giving precedence to art and music, not to money and success.

Celine and Lara were rivals as interprets in (pop) bel canto. And Celine definitely beat her in terms of popularity. Lara also prouded herself to be a composer and this may have reduced her repertoire. Celine did not compose and was handed her most famous songs by the French best seller pop artist Jean-Jacques Goldman. So, there is a disparity on this front. On another front, there are stories that Celine's international connexions did, indeed, hamper Lara's oversea's exposure. I wish more grand composers had proposed their work to Lara.
