Reading from....50 brilliant South Africans book,I found Jonny Clegg in it...he said... "living in a world of cultures and traditions, you grab what is right with you" and listening to his amazing works ,I really appreciate, that Jonny Clegg lived Africa to the fullest...when the world was ignoring Africa, preaching negativity of my land Jonny found her his salvation... he's Great inspiration if the world is looking to togetherness!

Because at the time this was filmed it was illegal in South Africa for him - Clegg, a white man to associate with his own band - they would have all paid in blood and money - Apartheid was brutal.
I just saw Matopos Hills, Bulawayo CBD, Victoria Falls, Makokoba Township, ZOC (public bus). This video was shot in 80s Zimbabwe yall! A country i was once proud to call home. Thank you Mr Clegg for preserving this memory of my little lost country.
I discovered Johnny Clegg and Savuka in 2019, 6 months before Johnny died. My dad assisted to an outdoor concert in the 80's or 90's at only a few miles from where we live. Honestly, I just want to go back in time and go to this concert... I really love this music and its message.
I burst into tears when I heard this song today. 1987 was such a hard year for me. Savuka made it bearable. To think their dance together would have been illegal at the time in their home.

Not just a great song, not just a great artist, not just a great African-one of the great humans ever.

Somewhere around 2005 Johnny Klegg was at the House of Blues in New Orleans. The concert was incredible. Highest energy concert I've ever attended. He was very gracious, mingling with the crowd and talking to all of us like we were old friends. Both he and the woman I went with, who was an exchange student in SA and knew of him there, are gone now. Two losses to the world.

I fell in love with his music decades ago and only by accident came across this video my favorite of his songs along with "I'm digging for some words". I never realized what an extraordinary man he was and am so sad he died too young. But he's left a legacy that brings me so much joy and love when I listen to his music and uplifts me when I'm down. His beautiful spirit and soul lives on and on. Thank you Johnny for your humanity, brilliant music and dancing, courage and love. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I don't remember when I first heard Johnny Clegg but I immediately bought his various CDs and played them in my middle school art classroom for the students.. along with many other musicians like Bob Marley, Lou Reed, Bob Dylan... this was in 91-98. student body was almost 100% white.
Rest gently in peace, my fellow scatterling of Africa. Your extra ordinary talent impacted our world across all the colours of the rainbow and will always live on in our hearts. Thank you.

It’s a shame that African countries are like this. They have the potential to become well off but they choose corruption instead. Here in South Africa, since the apartheid ended, the country has become very corrupt. I know there was lots of corruption under Afrikaner rule compared to European countries but now it’s worse. The police do nothing, poverty is rising, water treatment is bad etc. Unfortunately with the South African government, they are more interested in headhunting the white people instead of solving the problems that face South Africa. In South Africa, society is so divided that it is hard to move forward. It’s a real shame Africa is like this.
