Johnny was my cousin. I remember, as a very young child, going to my uncle for tea on a Sunday afternoon. Often Johnny & Sipho would come too. We would sit on the floor in the lounge while they played for us. I never understood, at the time, why we had to draw the curtain in the dining room when we sat down for tea with Sipho (apartheid police often followed Johnny). Some of the greatest memories a child could have. It's always amazing to see the outpourings of love for Johnny and his music from around the world. RIP

Sindile - don't be negative... agree it was a great loss - Zulu le blanc was greatest unifier of us South Africans but it wld've been in vain all his efforts if we thought that way... My niece is a Makoti...married to an isiXhosa named Wandile (Wara) who owns his own newspaper & she's a lecturer at Nelson Mandela Metropole Uni (PE) - have 2 beautiful children - Nobulali - girl (16) & Mluleki Hilkhaya - boy (14) - Wara is most wonderful Tata... he exposed well-known politician's corruption & was poisoned for it but survived... Camata is family home - Cofimvaba area - Summerstrand during weekdays... don't be negative 'lil pea - too many nice peeps in Africa... big hug from Cape Town... Ps : Mluleki Hilkhaya (we call him Khaya) looks spitting image of Trevor Noah so I teased Tata asking him where was TN & where was my niece when Nyagga Nyagga (conception) took place... to which Wara cheekily answered : "Trevor Noah is a naughty man!!!..." 😄😄😄

@Beer Review Factually you’re correct, but his heart and his home was in SA. So, he may as well have been born here. He grew up for the most part in Africa: Zim, Zambia and SA. He remarked in one interview that when he went to meet his biological father in England, when he was 21, England was alien to him.

In 1980 at the Goodwood show in Cape Town I was 6 years, I saw Johnny Clegg and his band singing and dancing dressed like a Zulu. We were unsure.what we saw at that time as the years went by I realized more who he was and his fame. Now at 50 I.enjoy his music
