I am an American who grew up in South Africa. My parents used to play this song when I was young. It's nostalgic. :)

Johnny Clegg's music will continue to shape the world long after he left us.

This song makes me proud to be a South African. Even with our troubled past, we can create beauty.

Like the little girl said......it made a difference to THAT one. And THAT my friends, is the spirit of the great (African) heart. Been living in Scotland for 20 years now and I miss South Africa with every fibre of my being. I've been thinking about coming home for a few years now. Hey.....you might all see me soon......!!! :)

Hey i just want to say that im here alone, kinda depressed, and im here watching this video, and i never felt better. This song brings so much joy to oneself, it is amazing to see so may people come together and sing for the greater good.

This song always reminds me off Jock of the Bushveld ... I cried like a baby when I saw this movie. This song is awesome. It makes me proud to be South African.

I left SA in 1994 and I wonder if I made a big mistake?? I've made a life in the UK but there is so much I miss and this song just enhances the ache in my heart. It's not just the country....it's the people (ALL of the people!!), plus pap en wors, my ma se kerrie, Sondag oggend as ek wakker word met 'n koppie rooibos tee, Saturday afternoons playing softball with my brother in the garden, braaivleis with my family.......the list goes on and on. I've made a great life here in the UK but am I really LIVING?? I miss the stark beauty of the thorntrees, the sun, the beautiful beaches, but most of all I miss the people!! The beautiful diversity of so many cultures brought together in one country to form the MOST unique and individual of peoples. Ok, now I KNOW I made the biggest mistake of all. It's too bad that I'm too old to start over again. I wish that I could turn the clock back.......I would never have left......:(

@@looiplooi Correct! He started learning Zulu and hanging out with emaHostel Zulu guys before the age of 14. Singing was already in blood as he had a Jazz music background. My point is; I respect how he united segregated South Africans through his music.

@@Zimsmen Yeah man, his music is timeless and it warms you from the inside. A interesting fact also is that his performance in Paris made that Michael Jackson had no ticket sales and M.J had to cancel his show.

"it made a difference to that one" small actions add up, being kind and ethical in all our relations no matter how seemingly insignificant, is a principle for a much wiser world

This and scaterlings of Africa are my favorites songs. Rest in peace Johnny Clegg.

I am also an American who had the pleasure of spending some formative years in SA back in 1990-1991. I keep up with the situation down there. God, Africa needs more of this. I posted this on FB as a response to that damn "Shoot the Boer" song that was just banned. I know the whole "Live Aide" thing is a little cliche at this point, but this is WELL DONE! More of this kind of unity please. And what a lovely gesture including Afrikaans singers singing a verse in their own language.

WoW, with the exception of Johnny I am not familiar with any of these South African artists and I wonder why as they are incredibly talented. This video reminds me of Bob Marleys " One Love".

Africans can be proud to have musicans like this. (especially Jonny Clegg, who is a really outstanding personality. He does so much for the Country he loves.) Even here on the other side of the world, on "Alp-Country" Switzerland, I can feel the spirit of the great heart, when I listen this song.

Sad to say I was at his last show last night in Joburg. Due to pancreatic cancer he has decided to stop touring. But he went out in style, like the true warrior he is.

1969 was such a period of anguish...my first love heading for Aus as civil war looked like a real future possibility - no future etc... he wanted me to consider joining him... I KNEW I cld never live in a nappy state... besides SA beauty by far outstripped anything Aus had to offer... Also friends in UK (whose family had been deported by SA gov nazis - due to communist 'leanings') wanted me to join them... just cld'nt leave my family & be safe & cushy & parents facing God-knew-wot politically... my dad HATED Nat gov... he enlightened me so much re their petty viciousness... was a time for sure... SA is lovely... Africa is ingrained in me...love it & it's indigeny...

Johnny you've found the spirit of the GREAT heart💞 your true love of humanity is felt in the Universe.

Indeed a legend of a man and a legendary song! Yes, possibly not "as great" if you grew up listening to the original; but done for a wonderful cause and getting some of the "better" South African artists together for this collaboration whom I will list in the next post (just for those asking).

This song even amazes me today.......12 years out of my homeland Durban,The one difference was made by a *Great Man* Mandela...who on the verge of racial war unties a country through a sport and by his great precence,love you Madiba and miuss you Durban,all us who grew up in apartied have great hearts.
